Conservative is not a bad thing. .....there's a lot of cars out there today that has that futuristic design. .....I'm glad VW and Audi has kept it more traditional and classy.

Good review but not a single negative point? Also didn't mention the real life mpg or what kind of 4 wheel drive does it use. Is it a permanent 50-50 or a fwd that becomes a 4 wheel drive when there's loss of traction in the front wheels? Pretty sure it's the latter using a haldex.

+SornGeorge Thanks for watching George, and for your comments. You're spot on about the adaptive 4MOTION. In most situations, the 4WD Tiguan has 90% front-drive orientation until a low-grip situation is sensed by the stability control. At which point, it can divert anything up to 100% to the rear tyres. This was an early first drive of a pre-production vehicle so official specs are yet to be finalised by +Volkswagen UK. However, if there's enough interest, we'll endeavour to produce a full expert review when we have driven the entire Tiguan range back in the UK. For now, please read our first drive: www.autotrader.co.uk/content/first-drives/2016-volkswagen-tiguan-first-drive-review

I think it's 8 inch touchscreen and the virtual cockpit is 12 inch

How is it so slow? A VW Passat 2006 Can easily pass 120 mph. How does a 10 year advancement not increase its top speed by even a little???

They got sued, emission needs to be lowered. Read your news. Research how hard it is to make an engine faster while lowering the emission better than 2006 was. Again, use you God given eyes and read whatever language that is most comfortable to you.

I wanted this car until he said 0-60 time was 9.3 seconds! I would like to hear him say 8.0 seconds or 7.5 seconds. That car is to slow. If fact, the honda fit is a hotrod compared to these snails. I can't justifying spending 30,000 plus on a car in the nine second range. I know somebody is going to say that is the average time for the class, but that is way I can't do it! CX5 2.5 is looking better and better every time. Hell the VW Golf R good.

The Tiguan isn't meant to be a sporty SUV. It's meant to be a comfortable, quiet car for daily driving and/or for driving off road.

James Gordon I understand that, but the speed it too slow! 9.3 seconds is the around the average time for compact economy cars. I don't want to battle cars like the Toyota Vitz/Yaris (9.6 seconds) for emergency lane changes or passing for the freeway. Hell, the Honda fit does it in 8.5 seconds for a $20,000 car and VW want and most of the other manufactures want you to pay $25 to 38 thousand dollars for a car that can't get out of the way for that most basic transportation. No thanks!

Go buy a Honda Fit then and you've then got what you want!

All I'm going to say is that every German car I have owned have been rubbish. Owned three VW's and all three had to be sold had so many faults. Not only that my brother a die hard VW fan as he works for VW. Bought a brand ne Golf in 2009 got it home after a week drove to Scotland in it and found a massive leak in the roof and VW could not fix it, and it was grinding into 2nd gear. However, he's still a die hard fan. Finally had to sell our BMW last year back axle problems and no one interested in helping. German engineering is over rated i'd say.

+Adrian Edwards Germans are king of perceived quality. They were never in the league of the Japanese for engineering expertise and reliability, but the marketing team saw to that. I own a 430d BMW but would not buy a used one outside of warranty. The cars are money pits and have extortionate maintenance costs.

+bodrulm1 The thing is, Made in Germany used to stand for quality ( well if you really go deep in history it was actually so that people wouldn't buy the goods but that's besides the point.) But nowadays quality isn't profitable anymore as a lot of companies are actually willing to lose money on car sales just so they can make the money back with repairs. The real money is made in the garage, not the showroom. Also, regulations etc make it that manufacturers have to use more plastcics etc, when you look at a 1970 BMW, the engine is a solid piece of metal with no plastics to be seen. Today everything is plastic and lighter and that takes a toll, especially on reliability and repair-ability.
My recommendation, buy a Japanese car or a German car with a petrol engine ( Avoid new Audi and BMW altogether and as for Mercedes any car from 2009 should be pretty reliable.)

you are so true.i am driving a 2012 merc c class,c250 cg1.i just dont get the feeling that it is reliable.i already have had a couple of stutters when i do a kick down.i am now in the process of selling it before things get worse and i will be going for a mazda cx5 or a nissan x-trail.a complete change from a saloon but at least i know reliability will not be an issue.

Believe it or not, I find fords very reliable. I have had a Ford Fiesta and focus, and the only issue was a blown bulb

VW cars look so dull, the body looks like a stunted estate car from the 1980's
