- An island paradise, boasting some of Thailands best dive sites and the coastal view points were second to none of the region, but every rose has it thorns and this island is no exception.We’re talking about Koh Tao, but of course not everyone has heard the history this island has endured, even more so, with it being nick named as death island.
During our time in this region, we’d heard people discussing the atrocities of what had happened there. It honestly was a bit nerving but we felt comfortable enough and confident in our decision to proceed and visit the island. Fortunately, we had no relatable experiences and saw a totally different side to the island.

We are Benny and Meeka, a travel couple from Australia who have been travelling on and off for 10 years and even lived in the UK from 2019 - 2021.
We are currently in SE Asia and are making our way back to the UK to reunite with our Mercedes Sprinter van we purchased before the world shut down and we left back to Aus.
About 4 months ago we decided to document our travels as we make our way across the globe, so join us for the ride.

Back in 2000 I spent 2 weeks on Koh Tao. $1.30/night. You got 2 hrs of electricity per night! It was a lovely experience

I spent 3 months here in 2004 when the Tsunami hit and I couldn't go to Phuket. Fell in love with the island and been back a number of times since. It has changed a lot over the years, but those sunsets on Sairee beach never get boring!

I lived there for the whole time of Covid, it was life changing. I love the way you edited your video! Once you are on the island, it’s even more beautiful than the clips you show! Such a wonderful place. Thanks for sharing! I was lucky to spend three months scuba diving there in the mid 90’s. It is unexplainable, the reefs back then were psychedelic with a million different glowing alien colors. It’s lost soo much color but, still amazing! Very special island

I love Koh Tao. Beautiful island with some great snorkelling spots. It's not the black tip reef sharks you need to be wary of though, it's the titan trigger fish haha! I saw you got pretty close to some of them, good job it wasn't near their nests! :)

Koh Tao is no more dangerous as anywhere else in Thailand all is good solo or otherwise

No where in the world has had a beautiful history. Even your home town has had more crime. Pretty bad advertising for our favourite island, the headline I mean 😢
That’s very true, but In saying that we were nervous to go there once we heard what people were saying. It ended up being one of our favourite places as well, hence the headline saying “ Koh Tao Paradise, we were nervous to go here - Best snorkelling beaches Thailand” I think we headlined it how we felt in the moment . 🙂
If that number of murders and crime was committed in any country in an area the same size in that small of a population as Koh Tao, that area would be considered a no go zone. Even a war zone
Irresponsible to promote this place without explaining to viewers the risks involved when visiting koh toa. Organised crime, several brutal murders and rapes. Truly shocking of you.
We actually had no idea about the things that took place on the island until we were here… which is heart breaking. In saying that, many people come to this island and spend many months here learning to free dive and have a safe and enjoyable time. I don’t think we can put it in a box and claim it as a place is too dangerous. We would have never visited if we had knew about the things that had happened here. Our experience was the complete opposite and our channel is to show a place through our eyes and what we experienced.
@@bennyandmeeka so you do no research pre visit on all your trips? It’s one of the first things that comes up on a search. Tbf yeh many do enjoy this island and yes it’s beautiful. But the fact is one criminal family runs the Island and many many people have been murdered inc Thais brutally or fake and forced suicide. The beautiful British couple who who were slaughtered a few years ago was blamed on Burmese immigrants…. Yeh righto, even the British police who went over knew and even said they were set up. I find it a shame people still go there as all you are doing is giving money to a murderous crime family.
haha you're crazy I had a great time on Koh Tao, a truly unreal experience🤩don't forget that it is a very small island and indeed increases the number of accidents. if everyone had to think oh there was an accident I'm not going anymore then you might as well not go anywhere there is a risk of dying from an accident everywhere all over the world

@@markvisser2877 yeh people do but that doesn’t take away from the fact you filling the coffers of a Thai style mafia family who have the whole island under their boot. Not even to mention the rapes, murders and so called suicides. Plenty of much better places to go in Thailand
