  • Mark Drakeford, the Labour first minister in Wales, lost his temper on Tuesday when Andrew RT Davies, the Welsh Conservative leader, quoted someone saying that Wales had become a 'third-world country' for healthcare under Labour.

Drakeford told Davies: 'It is absolutely shocking to me that you will think that you can turn up here this afternoon with the mess that your party has made to the budgets of this country, to the reputation of this country around the world.'

Wales receives 15% more per head than England in NHS funding. Dripford elected to spend 10% of the annual NHS budget, some £1 billion, on "free" prescriptions that he is using to bribe voters. If the prescriptions were means tested as they are in England £100's of millions would be freed up to increase funding on frontline services. Maybe then the quality of NHS the English experience would also be enjoyed i Wales. Dripford is a disgrace.

for those lacking context: Wales has a devolved goverment which has seen Labour in control for a long time. The Tory is accusing labour of cutting NHS Wales funding and running it poorly. However, the amount of funding the Welsh devolved government gets is determined by the government in Westminster, controlled by the Tory party, who have cut Wales budget and ran with all these insane financial policies in recent weeks. As much as I hate to say it as I'm anti-tory to the hilt, but Labour did cut the health budget back when spending cuts were first introduced by the tory government. Instead of ring fencing the NHS like England did, Wales decided to go for protecting council budgets thus preventing any council tax rise. A big mistake in my opinion.and there's no denying that the party leader for the tories has a valid point when he accuses Mark Drakeford of voting for cuts to the Health Service.

Ring fencing the NHS is a better bet than councils, because like in England, the health responsibilities of councils gets absorbed into the NHS out of necessity, and though care variation occurs, the NHS health platform is more powerful than the councils. I'm kind of fed up with Labour deflecting rather than being honest about the decisions made. And care quality has nothing to do with money - there was a health worker somewhere in 15hrs - that crosses two shifts! The culture in Wales must have become appalling under the cuts, and it was up to him as Health Minister to influence where he can.

Tories want the national health service to become privatised like in America. If they keep underfunding it and therefore making it harder for the services to run and catch up with long waits then they are making the case to their voters to make it private. What the voters don't realise is If we made some pinches towards council funding and thrown way more money to the NHS so they can give higher, more deserving earnings to their staff (encouraging more people to join the industry), buy more specialised equipment and testing then some of these problems wouldn't be in existence next year. If we want free health care, it must be funded properly.
