    Thanks man! This was a great comprehensive video! I wish that every RPG System overview out there had the same mix of concision and attention to the important details~

      Thank you for watching and the comment. I have a couple of non-video related issues to address in life right now, but I hope to dive into Coriolis next.

    I have to say, I had heard of the new Alien Colonial Marines module but honestly the Forbidden Lands really caught my eye. You're videos and a few others around have helped me get a basic grasp.
    I hope I'm correct that many of the systems are kind of a hybrid of what's seen in GURPs and Genesys but with a focus still on preset classes for flavor like what you'd see in D&D but without the power fantasy. That's the feel I'm getting at least and I really like that.

    Nice review. I like that the year zero engine doesn’t require lots of math to determine a result. I once tried the old Star Wars d6 system which added dice for higher skills, but adding up 10d6 or more got really cumbersome and became more work than fun. In contrast, year zero keeps it simple with just find the sixes. Plus I like the push rolls concept and the consequences. I’d like to see you review Sybaroum too. The mechanics in that game seem very clean to me.

    I only recently discovered Free League and the Year Zero Engine and I love it so much. I’m currently about to start a Destroyer of Worlds run with my group and wife after playing Chariot of the Gods. Love this engine and I’m hoping to start either Twilight 2000 or Mutant Year Zero sometime soon. Already got the entire Alien collection.

    If only the books were less expensive, I was 30 years younger, and my friends and I were not so tied up in "real life"... *sigh*

      If it helps, many of the Year Zero games have free Quick Start rules on the Free League website. Thanks for watching the video. :) Hopefully real life calms down for you and you can give the games a shot.

    I found this looking for the subtle differences between them, I'm trying to decide which I want to buy first.

    Thanks for this. I just got Vaesen and it is my only Year Zero game. In fact, I am somewhat new to TTRPG's and would like to get a 2nd Year Zero game, just for the sake of testing out systems more (limiting myself to 2 so I don't get out of control w/ the spending lol). I am torn between Coriolis, Tales From the Loop, and the Mutant games. Forbidden Lands seems sweet too, but I'm trying to avoid fantasy (even if you did say it strays from the usual fantasy tropes). This video helped a lot in my decision-making, though. Thanks!

    • @LegionofMyth
      @LegionofMyth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you liked it. I THINK Tales from the Loop and Alien are their biggest sellers, but I may be wrong about that. Personally, I'm not a Tale from the Loop fan, but that's just personal preference. I also prefer Coriolis to Alien, but you're much more apt to find Alien RPG groups.

    • @kalega311
      @kalega311 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LegionofMyth Yeah, I've ultimately decided on Tales From the Loop. I have my dark fantasy and post-apocalypse itches scratched elsewhere (Shadow of the Demon Lord and Judge Dredd). Plus Tales scratches the itch that I want to keep scratching - mystery. I've found out that for TTRPG's, I think horror and mystery are my favorite genres.

    Very helpful. I think I'm really liking this system. But, Yeah. Forbidden Lands has caught my eye. >_> Been wanting something to scratch that Dark Sun itch.
    If I like it after I get it maybe I'll pick up Mutant as well. I enjoyed the PC game.

      Rudest Hazard 🎲 Sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for watching and for your comment, we really appreciate it. 🔮
      The halflings in Forbidden Lands aren't quite cannibalistic (we think), but you could certainly tweak the game world to overlay Dark Sun. If you like the Dark Sun feel, I think you should give Forbidden Lands a try!

    I hope you played Tales from the loop yet because you really miss out...there is something especially engaging about playing a kid that makes everything more intense that I can´t even describe.

    • @LegionofMyth
      @LegionofMyth  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not. It's just not my type of game. I love Chosium, but I don't get into Call of Cthulhu. I love Palladium, but I have no interest in Beyond the Supernatural. Tales from the Loop is a good TV show, and I love the Year Zero Engine, but the genre just doesn't interest me.
      I appreciate your comment and thank you for watching that video.

    I have tried and like a lot of systems, but the Year Zero Engine always rubbed me wrong somehow. Characters somehow always feel incompetent, even with their specialties, and it buggers me a lot that you heal with Empathy... Doctor House would be really bad as a Doctor if that was a thing. I mean, sure, it's simplified, but whenever I'd end up with a decision like that I'd rather start over with different, or more Attributes to make my system at least half-realistic. Rude doctors who are very good healers are a thing.
