I just recently discovered your channel, but I already know you are the best teacher. Thank you Mr. Gavin Hoey, for being such a great teacher in photography.
Gavin, I didn’t find your channel 10 years ago, more like 7 years for me. In that time your videos have been a source of inspiration, education and good old entertainment. I can’t thank you enough for how you’ve improved my understanding of photography and for finding the fun in the process. Thanks Gavin, sincerely. Stephen
Congratulations for those 10 wonderful years of sharing your knowledge with 'us photographers '. I was there from the beginning and you are my favorite to follow. So much inspiration you are giving us. Thanks Gavin and many more years to come.
10 years! I remember that original wall video and how encouraging and helpful it was to someone like me, a bit afraid of flash. Thank you (and to Adorama) for all your entertaining and educational output over the years. Here’s to the next ten 🍻
Congratulations on your decade of teaching us Photography Gavin Hoey through ADORAMA! Yes, technology has changed for the better and at an affordable price over all. Back in the days of film one had to had a leaf shutter if one wanted to shoot at a higher sync speed. Thank you for all you share with us Sir!
Well done on 10 years Gavin, I have watched many of your videos in the last few years. Thanks for the excellent content you continue to put out on a regular basis.
It has been a great and informative decade of the Gavin Magic. I can safely speak for many of us when I say that I look forward to the next couple of decades of instruction. You keep making 'em and we'll keep watching 'em, fella!
So good watching you work. Always learning from you. After 10 years clearly a lot has changed. You have not only become a better photographer, but a better teacher as well. 📸 🎓 Thank you for your work! Can I have another 10 years of the same please?
Damn has it really been ten years! When i first started Gavin was the first photographer I found and has been my favourite photographer ever since. I remember that first video well. Thanks Gavin and Adorama for the great content over the years.
Hey Gavin....another great video....man I cant beleive Ive seen every video you have ever made!!!....Thank you for always giving you all...and most of all thank you for keeping us all inspired!!!!
Congratulation Gavin! Just the other day watching the 10 year old video😀. The photography has definitely improved (matured) over time. What however remains the same is the fact that we LEARN A LOT in every one your vids.
The only thing that hasn’t changed? The “You’ve got to click on the *short pause* Subscribe Button!” It’s iconic now. I will say that after a while those years really blur together. Hard to believe it has been 10 years on Adorama.
I watched that shoot 10 years ago! This was a joy to watch as it was 10 years ago :) Thanks for sharing your growth and skills with us. It has indeed helped me become a better photographer 🙂.
I remember that original video. Feeling old(er). Yes, definitely good points to remember because no matter how much better (and sometimes cheaper) today's tech is, the basics of good lighting and model posing have not changed. Great video.
Happy 10th anniversary. I remember that first one too. You’ve been a great teacher and I’ve tried many of your projects over the years, keep them coming!
maybe that was your first or second video I watched when I grabbed my camera for the first time 5 years ago. and I really miss your 15 minutes street photo challenge :) i wish you start that series as well in the future.
@@kirstyhepworth7343 The photographers who taught me (when I was your age) also learned their craft before I was born. Time changes technology but not the enjoyment of sharing your passion for something 🙂
Pretty sure your first video was the first video I saw of yours Gavin and I've been hooked ever since. It's always a good day when you put a new video out. Looking forwards to the next ten years mate. Terrific image BTW as always 👍😊
'Love the shoots you're now able to do at your new home. The setting has me wondering when at last you'll be the inspiration for a Britbox cozy mystery set in the idyllic countryside. 😉
That was a fun video. With all that experience you've gained in the last 10 years, along with those grey hairs; I would love to see you go back with some of that old gear. Try it out again and see how much better you've become with all that knowledge. Take that speedlight, the camera, the lens (maybe upgrade the lens for fun?) and do a similar shoot but not quite the same. Picking your best background. The experienced model. Maybe adding a speedlight or two for separation or other techniques you've picked up and used often in the last 10 years... Definitely adding the fog 😏
Great idea Brad. From memory the shutter mechanism failed on my Canon 5D mark2 and the aperture diaphragm motor stopped working on the Canon 28-105mm lens. The 580EXii speedlight survived (and is in a box somewhere) until I upgraded it with 2.4ghz Flashpoint Li-ION speedlights.
@@GavinHoey Wow, you sure got your use out of that gear! That's impressive. I'm sure we can find you some similar gear to back then or even earlier. Like your 60D and a similar lens (I think you had one) or something. It'll really show your progression if someone keeps pushing to better themselves. Plus you've got great teaching skills too!
Ten years, two tips from another photographer who is getting wiser and older. 1) Knee pads work great at keeping the joints pain free. 2) When ambling about with you camera on location a monopod makes you look so professional but also helps steady not only the camera but the photographer too.
Hi Jeff, those are great tips for sports photography AND also (in my experience) catwalk / fashion shows. Good kneepads are underrated by the youth of today 😉
I enjoy your posts Gavin, and I enjoy my photography too. It's only in recent years (68) that I have been lucky enough to own the equipment to do this type of thing HSS until a few weeks ago was still a mystery. There is one statement for you and one question. 1) Getting a flash unit that goes low enough in power is very important (I missed that and need less power than I have sometimes), and. Remembering the technical reasons for settings is a real good way to get headaches, did you ever find that? Thanks for the education.
Hi John. The headaches go the more you use the knowledge. Agree about the low end power being underated. There are hacks like extra fabric, bigger light modifiers and adjusting the light to subject distance but all have consequences.
@@GavinHoey Thanks they were smart to add you to their group as you are a very effective communicator. I look forward to your next video. Have a good Friday and weekend. 😎👍🇨🇦
After a decade your style, personality, knowledge and delivery are classic across all of the videos I have watched (having watched essentially every piece of content you have made here on Adorama and your own channel). My favorite photographer personality to view without a doubt. You do work with some well versed models. Just curious though, what ever became of Roger?
Thanks for the kind words. Models come and go and sometimes come back again. Many of our models had to find other work during the multiple lockdowns and we moved away. We're always in the look out for the next top Adorama model 😁
Canon 600EX II Speedlite is probably the nearest equivalent to what I owned and used back in 2012 and today it's $499 + batteries + mount. Either way the choice of flash today is unbelievable and there's a light out there for every price point and photography style.
