Bravo to PBS America. It's not often that a documentary of this caliber is made, and I personally found it to be an authentic and absolutely outstanding in-depth look at Dead Sea Scroll's history!

      SALaM, SHLAMa, SHLOMo, NAMASTe, PEACe.
      Quran [Last Testament]:
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people ˹saying to him˺, “Warn your people before a painful punishment comes to them.”
Noah proclaimed, “O my people! I am truly sent to you with a clear warning:
Worship God ˹alone˺, fear Him, and obey me.
He will forgive your sins, and delay your end until the appointed time.
Indeed, when the time set by God comes, it cannot be delayed, if only you knew!”
He cried, “My Lord! I have surely called my people day and night.
My calls only made them run farther away.
Whenever I invite them to be forgiven by You, they press their fingers into their ears, cover themselves with their clothes, persist ˹in denial˺, and act very arrogantly.
Then I certainly called them openly,
then I surely preached to them publicly and privately,
Saying, ‘Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, ˹for˺ He is truly Most Forgiving.
He will shower you with abundant rain,
Supply you with wealth and children,
Give you gardens as well as rivers.
What is the matter with you that you are not in awe of the Majesty of God,when He truly created you in stages ˹of development˺?
Do you not see how Allah created seven heavens, one above the other [Earth's atmosphere has five major and several secondary layers].
Placing the moon within them as a ˹reflected˺ light, and the sun as a ˹radiant˺ lamp?
God ˹alone˺ caused you to grow from the earth like a plant.
Then He will return you to it, and then simply bring you forth ˹again˺.
God ˹alone˺ spread out the earth for you,
to walk along its spacious pathways.’”
˹Eventually,˺ Noah cried, “My Lord! They have certainly persisted in disobeying me, and followed ˹instead˺ those ˹elite˺ whose ˹abundant˺ wealth and children only increase them in loss.
They have devised a tremendous plot,
Urging ˹their followers˺, ‘Do not abandon your idols-especially Wadd, Suwâ’, Yaghûth, Ya’ûq, and Nasr.’
Those ˹elite˺ have already led many astray. So ˹O Lord˺, only allow the wrongdoers to stray farther away.”
So because of their sins, they were drowned, then admitted into the Fire.
They found none to help them against God.
Noah had prayed, “My Lord! Do not leave a single disbeliever on earth.
For if You spare ˹any of˺ them, they will certainly mislead Your servants, and give birth only to ˹wicked˺ sinners, staunch disbelievers.
My Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and ˹all˺ believing men and women.
Increase the wrongdoers only in destruction.”

Trinitarians are inoculated from rationality, facts and logic. It is no surprise that basic reasoning is entirely lost on those that believe that the creator became one of those he created in order to save the created from his own self. Not to mention the incoherence in the scripture, never minding the creed itself.
      Matthew 4:1) Jesus was tempted
[James 1:13) God cannot be tempted
      (John 1:29) Jesus was seen
(1 John 4:12) No man has ever seen God
(Acts 2:22) Jesus was and is a man, sent by God
(Numbers 23:19, Hosea 11:9) God is not a man
(Hebrews 5:8-9) Jesus had to grow and learn
(Isaiah 40:28) God doesn't ever need to learn
      (1 Corinthians 15: 3-4) Jesus Died
(1 Timothy 1:17) God cannot die
      (Hebrews 5:7) Jesus needed salvation
(Luke 1:37) God doesn't need salvation
      (John 4:6) Jesus grew weary
(Isaiah 40:28) God cannot grow weary
      (Mark 4:38) Jesus slept
      (Psalm 121: 2-4) God doesn't sleep
(John 5:19) Jesus wasn't all powerful
(Isaiah 45: 5-7) God is all powerful

Fascinating thank you for this post, there is a problem though.
    Who wrote the scrolls?
    Clearly Jewish people did.
    When?
Well before Christianity and long before Islam.
So why among so many 'experts' & 'scholars', how many are Jewish?
It's not only the forgeries that are a problem.
Still, an interesting introduction to this intriguing subject.

    • @ThermaL-ty7bw

CLEARLY THEY DIDN'T , because they found it in a cave and just ... called it their OWN history
same with the dead sea scrolls and that other horrible piece of crap called the quran ,
they're ALL found in caves , and the people that found them just claimed them as their own histories , all of them
the jews never walked the desert for 40 years , there's no evidence of it ANYWHERE ,
as confirmed by the Israeli and the christian archeologists , they have literally dug up the complete desert over the decades and found ... nothing ...
not 1 piece of evidence that a large population ever WAS in Egypt , couldn't be sustained ,
and there aren't large settlements where they supposedly would have lived , anywhere , they dug up the entire thing , absolutely nothing to be found ...
in fact the even ANY story in the bible before King David is a pure lie or can not be confirmed ,
but the people like Adam and Eve , Abraham , Mozes , and countless others ... DID NOT EXIST , the only one we have evidence for ... is King David ...
people write stories , MOST OF THEM ARE FALSE STORIES , it's just the way we are
we like science-fiction and any fiction of ANY kind , because we DO NOT WANT TO BE HERE ON THIS PLANET IN THE FIRST PLACE ,
it's WHY we make up stories , it's not hard to understand ,
the harsh condition back then , living outside with nothing on then a loincloth , sleeping in caves ,
you start to make up stories to keep you warm and get your mind of things , and voila , here we are , all with our special little gods in our own special little heads

I like how it's pointed out that the overlap between the content and the ideological interests of the purchaser is a problem, but it's not applied to the texts as a whole. And the texts themselves having been put into context with the modern Jewish traditions even though the Sons of Light had shunned the orthodox traditions.

Nobody's denying they are "real". The debate is over whether an omnipotent being decreed the text, or if self-ambitious people were responsible for the writings. My gut tells me it's the people, especially since there are so many contradictions present in the texts and a truly omnipotent being would not allow for such an issue to exist.

@@tahirkamrankhanThe Dead Sea Scrolls are scrolls of the Old Testament, and therefore fundamental to both Judaism and the Christianity. The first Christians were Jews.
The Dead Sea Scrolls comprises of scrolls written at different times, mostly in Hebrew, but some in Aramaic, and a few in Greek. Each scroll has been individually dated from the 3rd Century BCE (before Christ) to the 1st Century C.E., so pre-, and post-Christ. I hope that helps!

      25. They have taken their rabbis and monks as well as the Messiah, son of Mary, as lords besides God, even though they were commanded to worship none but One God. There is no god worthy of worship except Him. Glorified is He above what they associate with Him! [Surah At-Tawbah; 9:31]

How do private collectors know if they are buying a fake? Easy. The mere fact that someone is actually offering up such important and ancient writings for sale at all is the clue! Any actual authentic scrolls would never be on the market for sale to anyone but a bonafide museum. Even then, they would probably be a donation, given their significance to both the religious and archaeological communities.

  • @Tugela60
    @Tugela60 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

9:20 Those "ritual baths" were probably the remains on an ancient resort town, lol. There is no evidence that it was a ritual site.
Also, some of those scrolls are portions of dozens of copies of the same text. There was no reason for there to be so many of the same thing in some religious refuge, it is complete overkill. It is more likely that it was a commercial enterprise producing text on demand for sale to the greater community in Judea. In other words not a religious community at all, but rather an industrial town whose product happened to be scrolls. The people producing them were probably trained slaves belonging to the estate, not a religious community.
Why would they have been hidden during the Roman suppression of the Jewish revolt? Because books were very valuable items before the invention of the printing press, so hiding a valuable commodity in a time of chaos is a rational thing to do for the people living in the settlement. After all, you would not want the Romans looting all your valuable product. The people who hid them were killed during the Roman suppression however, so there was no one to come back to collect them afterwards.

I like to ponder what today's society would think if our current religions did not exist. If the Bible never existed. It would probably mean that when we found these scrolls we would have considered them to be representing either evil cults or domestic terrorists. They have all the same kinds of foundations. But instead, since we do have the Bible, we see these scrolls as the beginnings of modern religion, and hence, view them in a much more positive light. Weird.

Quran = Heaven In A Few Verses.
MUHAMMAD (PBUH) IN BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES [Dr. Zakir Naik]
      1. Buddha prophesised the advent of a Maitreya:
      A) Almost all Buddhist books contain this prophecy. It is in Chakkavatti Sinhnad Suttanta D. III, 76: "There will arise in the world a Buddha named Maitreya (the benevolent one) a holy one, a supreme one, an enlightened one, endowed with wisdom in conduct, auspicious, knowing the universe:
"What he has realized by his own supernatural knowledge he will publish to this universe. He will preach his religion, glorious in its origin, glorious at its climax, glorious at the goal, in the spirit and the letter. He will proclaim a religious life, wholly perfect and thoroughly pure; even as I now preach my religion and a like life do proclaim. He will keep up the society of monks numbering many thousands, even as now I keep up a society of monks numbering many hundreds".
      B) According to Sacred Books of the East volume 35 pg. 225: "It is said that I am not an only Buddha upon whom the leadership and order is dependent. After me another Buddha maitreya of such and such virtues will come. I am now the leader of hundreds, he will be the leader of thousands."
      C) According to the Gospel of Buddha by Carus pg. 217 and 218 (From Ceylon sources): "Ananda said to the Blessed One, "Who shall teach us when thou art gone?" And the Blessed one replied, 'I am not the first Buddha who came upon the earth nor shall I be the last. In due time another Buddha will arise in the world, a holy one, a supremely enlightened one, endowed with wisdom in conduct, auspicious, knowing the universe, an incomparable leader of men, a master of angels and mortals. He will reveal to you the same eternal truths, which I have taught you. He will preach his religion, glorious in its origin, glorious at the climax and glorious at the goal. He will proclaim a religious life, wholly perfect and pure such as I now proclaim. His disciples will number many thousands while mine number many hundreds.'
Ananda said, 'How shall we know him?'
The Blessed one replied, 'He will be known as Maitreya'."
      (i) The Sanskrit word "Maitreya" or its equivalent in Pali "Metteyya" means loving, compassionate, merciful and benevolent. It also means kindness and friendliness, sympathy, etc. One Arabic word which is equivalent to all these words is "Rahmat". In Surah Al-Anbiya: "We sent thee not, but as a mercy for all creatures." [Al-Qur'an 21:107]
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was called the merciful, which is "Maitri".
(ii) The words Mercy and Merciful are mentioned in the Holy Qur'ân no less than 409 times.
(iii) Every chapter of the Glorious Qur'ân, except Chapter 9, i.e. Surah Taubah begins with the beautiful formula, 'Bismillah Hir-Rahman Nir-Rahim', which means 'In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful'.
(iv) The Word Muhammad is also spelt as 'Mahamet' or 'Mahomet' and in various other ways in different languages. The word 'Maho' or 'Maha' in Pali and Sanskrit mean Great and Illustrious and 'Metta' means mercy. Therefore 'Mahomet' means 'Great Mercy'.
      2. Buddha's doctrine was Esoteric and Exoteric:
According to Sacred Books of the East, volume 11, pg. 36 Maha-Parinibbana Sutta chapter 2 verse 32:
"I have preached the truth without making any distinction between exoteric and esoteric doctrine, for in respect of truths, Ananda, the Tathagata has no such thing as the closed fist of a teacher, who keeps something back".
Muhammad (pbuh) on the commandment of Almighty God delivered the message and doctrine without making any distinction between esoteric and exoteric. The Qur'ân was recited in public in the days of the Prophet and is being done so till date. The Prophet had strictly forbidden the Muslims from hiding the doctrine
      3. Devoted Servitors of the Buddhas:
According to Sacred Books of the East volume 11 pg. 97 Maha-Parinibbana Sutta Chapter 5 verse 36: "Then the Blessed one addressed the brethren, and said, "Whosoever, brethren have been Arahat-Buddhas through the long ages of the past, they were servitors just as devoted to those Blessed ones as Ananda has been to me. And whosoever brethren shall be the Arahat-Buddhas of the future, there shall be servitors as devoted to those Blessed ones as Ananda has been to me"."
The Servitor of Buddha was Ananda. Muhammad (pbuh) also had a servitor by the name Anas (r.a.) who was the son of Malik. Anas (r.a...) was presented to the Prophet by his parents. Anas (r.a...) relates: "My mother said to him, 'Oh Messenger of God, here is your little servant'." Further Anas relates, "I served him from the time I was 8 years old and the Prophet called me his son and his little beloved". Anas (r.a...) stayed by the Prophet in peace and in war, in safety as well as in danger till the end of his life.
      i) Anas (r.a.), even though he was only 11 years old stayed beside the Prophet during the battle of Uhud where the Prophet's life was in great danger.
ii) Even during the battle of Hunain when the Prophet was surrounded by the enemies who were archers, Anas (r.a...) who was only 16 years old stood by the Prophet.
Anas (R) can surely be compared with Ananda who stood by Gautam Buddha when the mad elephant approached him.
      4. Six Criteria for Identifying Buddha:
According to the Gospel of Buddha by Carus pg. 214:
"The Blessed one said, "There are two occasions on which a Tathagata's appearance becomes clear and exceedingly bright. In the night Ananda, in which a Tathagata attains to the supreme and perfect insight, and in the night in which he passes finally away in that ultra passing which leaves nothing whatever of his earthly existence to remain.' "
According to Gautam Buddha, following are the six criteria for identifying a Buddha.
      i) A Buddha attains supreme and perfect insight at night-time.
ii) On the occasion of his complete enlightenment he looks exceedingly bright
iii) A Buddha dies a natural death.
      iv) He dies at night-time.
      v) He looks exceedingly bright before his death.
vi) After his death a Buddha ceases to exist on earth.
      i) Muhammad (pbuh) attained supreme insight and Prophethood at night-time.
According to Surah Dukhan: "By the books that makes thing clear ? We sent it down during a blessed night." [Al-Qur'ân 44:2-3]
According to Surah Al-Qadar: "We have indeed revealed this (message) in the night of power." [Al-Qur'ân 97:1]
ii) Muhammad (pbuh) instantly felt his understanding illumined with celestial light.
iii) Muhammad (pbuh) died a natural death.
iv) According to Ayesha (r.a.), Muhammad (pbuh) expired at night-time. When he was dying there was no oil in the lamp and his wife Ayesha (r.a.) had to borrow oil for the lamp.
      v) According to Anas (r.a.), Muhammad (pbuh) looked exceedingly bright in the night of his death.
vi) After the burial of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) he was never seen again in his bodily form on this earth.
      5. Buddhas are only Preachers:
According to Dhammapada, Sacred Books of East volume 10 pg., 67:
"The Jathagatas (Buddhas) are only Preachers."
The Qur'ân says in Surah Ghashiya: "Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs." [Al-Qur'ân 88:21-22]
      6. Identification of Maitreya by Buddha:
According to Dhammapada, Mattaya Sutta, 151:
      "The promised one will be:
      i) Compassionate for the whole creation
      ii) A messenger of peace, a peace-maker
iii) The most successful in the world.
The Maitreya as a Preacher of morals will be:
      i) Truthful
      ii) Self-respecting
      iii) Gentle and noble
      iv) Not proud
      v) As a king to creatures
vi) An example to others in deeds and in words".

Naturally, the constant missionary doctrine threads its way through everything observed by the christian usurpers of the Jewish eternal truth- ie, every and anything authentically Jewish must always be deliberately distorted to mean something christian, even and especially when it is blatantly Jewish.

What a waste of time watching this nonsense. It doesn't matter if it was written two days ago or two thousand years ago. It's always been a bunch of nonsense and always will be. Earlier texts by Babylonians were also nonsense. Just because some nonsense is ancient doesn't make it true. Besides this, the texts about the beginning of man being written a few years after the death of Jesus doesn't make them the oldest version of the Torah ever. The only scrolls that are of any significance are those pertaining to the life of Jesus himself.

  • @pacopakito4576

Nah, bible is composed of two books: the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the Old Testament Jesus was not a god. Dead sea scrolls do not include the New Testament. People should understand this because Jesus Christ became only a god after the New Testament (created during the time of Constantine) which is NOT included in the dead sea scrolls. It is wrong when you combined the Old and the New by using the dead sea scroll and justify the belief that Jesus is God. This is wrong.

This persecution focus on LGBTQ+ people is an agenda. People defending the basic human rights of LGBT+"people is unfortunately required in this day and age.

Christianity is rooted in the Old Testament. And it was and is read by more Christians than the Jews comparatively. Value only relies on the background music alone if someone can produce the period in which the manuscript was written and recreate the cultural music to reflect.

@@R4J4N in case of those fairy tale scrolls, yeah. What producers of this documentary could have done was to respect the culture that created those fairy tales. The fact that you think christians have more right to those scrolls speaks only of you.

the story that it burned down was a ruse , a lie
they first took OUT all the scrolls and books and shipped them off to the Vatican , then set the place on fire themselves , to fool people
it's not just above ground , the Vatican , there's a big complex underneath , with LABS for science , >>> libraries

We might have had much of what science today struggles with for hundreds of years. But it seems typically human to destroy the future for themselves. Perhaps the "Last Generation" are more close to the truth than feels comfortable.

@@joanarling I would doubt that they had any scientific insights the modern society has not reinvented, but in my view the human history lost at that time is the truly irreplaceable aspect of this tragedy.
In a world today that laments the deaths of a few, our collective history is literally filled with butchery on a scale that is practically inconceivable in modern terms even with the terrible events of our day. More than once in sacking a city the invaders of the past simply murdered everyone, except perhaps some of the more beautiful women who had a different, terrible fate. IMHO we give the Roman's credit today for their organization, art and engineering, but they were a damned bloody, violent culture probably not unlike the Nazis except the Romans lasted much longer. I feel the lens of history often sanitizes the slaughter on their battlefields and in the coliseum. To paraphrase, you don't get one without the other.

@@henrivanbemmelAgreed. Warfare seems part of human nature, even though competition is sometimes sublimated, hence science. But if anything good can be said of our species, it will be that we are able to learn from the past. Previous experiences, early handed down to next generations by word of mouth, were written down and held in libraries. The burning of the Alexandrian library therefore prevented learning from most of what western knowledge had been accumulated before, thus setting back insight hundreds of years. That is why I think a genius like Newton might have been born earlier, and then Einstein and so on. Human kind might be more advanced in science today, at least technically. It might also have destroyed itself earler, too. I would not bet on it, but perhaps humankind might also have discovered a way to preserve life on the only planet known to harbour life. We might have been further along.
