Hi - Thanks for your question. Yes, you can sit anywhere. Once in your seat, the conductor will place a "tag" above your seat showing that your ticket has been checked and your seat is occupied. I've taken the train to Montreal and Mass. but never the Vermonter. I too have heard it's a beautiful route. Have fun!

Thank you!!!! Finally someone else who has common sense. If you want to boost an economy rail travel is a sure way to do it. It is absolutely the best way to move hundreds of people from place to place. With GE coming out with fuel efficient locomotives, who needs to pay baggage fees and get rewarded with flight delays. Fuel prices are no worries. Your a great person!

You know whats fun is when you're stationed on a Guided Missile Cruisier and you're out at sea in 30' swells in the North Atlantic and trying to eat. Food goes flying everywhere. I guess though at 80mph on rails isn't too bad. I hope someday when my twin boys are older i plan on taking them on a Amtrak trip to somewhere. Thanks for this video.

My very first Amtrak train ride was on the Silver Meteor from Richmond,VA to Wilmington,DEcon 1/31/1974. I was in the Navy stationed in Norfolk, VA on my first ship in the Navy, I wanted to ride Amtrak, so I rode on the Silver Meteor. The train arrived in Wilmington,DE 30 minutes early. Since that date, I have rode Amtrak trains a total of 24 times. In November I will be riding on the Sunset Limited from Tucson,AZ to San Antonio, TX to spend Thanksgiving there with my sons & daughter in law. In our country, my long distance travel is by Amtrak trains.

We took the Autotrain to Sanford FL (nr Orlando) this past June and the experience was wonderful. We had a bedroom w private bath. It proved comfortable, relaxing, pleasant and the dinner service was very good. Its a far cry from the cramped, crowded, filthy, dehumanizing, environment of air travel where they treat you like a friggin animal!

Thank you for watching my video. The engineer really did love that horn! We were constantly crossing small roads and to my knowledge, it's generally required to use the horn. The sleepers used to be at the end of the train and you rarely heard it. Now the sleepers are at the front. I suppose I could bring earplugs! LOL. Thanks again.

Yes it should be quite safe. There is a mesh guard which is attaced from the ceiling to the edge of the bunk so that it holds you in place should you roll towards the side. Thank you for watching the video. I hope you and your kids have a great time.

These Viewliner cars are so much nicer than the Old Hertiage Coaches we had on all trains when I worked on Amtrak in the 90's. At that time they were all about 60 years old, I've been on this train a couple of times, not a bad ride. Nice tour, you did well for Amtrak.
It's the best (Only) way to travel if you have the time.

Oh my gosh! The black sir at the cafe/lounge car is SSOOO NICE I dont know if you spoke with him at all, but he gave me some free snacks/beverages. He is very dedicated to his job and loves all of his passengers! He has been working on that same train for several years! I see him on every train I go on!

  • @CruiseMaven
    @CruiseMaven  16 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks very much. Part of the fun of train travel is the rocking and swaying. Depending on the location of your compartment can determine the feel of the ride. On the Viewliner, I try to get a roomette number of 5through 8 as they are usually not over the wheels. If you do get a compartment and you find that you are located over the wheels, sleep in the upper bunk! The food is still good, not what it used to be, but they try. Let's hope funding increases and more trains are back on track.

There are two fare components when you reserve a sleeper; the rail fare and the accommodations (sleeper) fare. The best prices on the sleeper is as far out as you can plan. They always sell out and at the last minute, of course the prices go up. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the nice comment. I have to say that by waiting until you are onboard to purchase a roomette, you may run the risk of the train being sold out. @TheBestPeki Thanks for watching the video. No, I'm not worried although the thought does cross my mind. I always take my camera and purse with me into the dining car. And your car attendant monitors who comes and goes. The sleeper cars on the German trains have little hotel-like key cards for entry into your sleeper. But then, there are a lot of people walking through the train cars on the trains in Europe.

When we travel to Florida we ONLY take the Autotrain and opt for the bedroom w private bath. Its a totally relaxing trip and after an evening of fine dining, drinks at the lounge and a movie in the observation car, we retire to ouyr room. When we awake at 8 we shower go to breakfast and by 10:30 we pull into Sanford Fl ( near Orlando) rested and refreshed.. Only way to travel and far less money than first class airfare.

  • @CruiseMaven

@jalacy93 Thanks for stopping by to leave a comment. It's a rather shaky ride...not like a ship or airplane. I don't know of anyone who gets train-sick. Maybe try a short ride in coach from Deland to Orlando and back and test it out. Good luck!

@makeupbytony Unlike the trains in Europe, Amtrak is on the "honor" system. No keys are issued. The sleeper cars are at a separate end of the dining car so that anyone who passes through into the sleeps has to go past the crew in the dining car.

@Ahuntsicspotter Winter Park is north of Orlando. It's served by both the Silver Meteor and the Silver Star. Amtrak has three stops in the greater Orlando area: Kissimmee, Orlando (downtown Orlando) as well as Winter Park. The next stop northbound after Winter Park is Palatka, approximately midway between Orlando and Jacksonville.

I just returned to Sydney after extrensive US travel. The Silver Meteor to Savannah from NYC was terrific. So easy to get on board, though PennSation is like the black hole of Calcutta and a disgrace! Slept well in my roomette, with own toilet and washbasin.
