Kristyna & Romain happy new year guys, wishing you all the best. Lovely vlog, very enjoyable watching you two. Thanks for letting us experience the journey with yourselves 💙❤️😎😀
@Sequoia Well, Cambodia USES the yankster dollars so they are calculating in local income... Anything over $1us they use dollars and below they use their own currency which is the Riel.. 4,000 Riel = $1us... Everything is in paper currency. There are no coins...
Great video! Very useful. I might be going there for a few days at the end of next month to get a new visa for Thailand, but I will also scope it out as my next country to live in. Thanks for sharing 😊😎
What a super great market!! Of course I do love to shop, and the prices are amazing!! I really appreciate that you discover all the history of a place, to get a real understanding!! Your videos are really getting better!! Thanks for sharing!!
12- mins is perfect length vid, I'll be there next month , not sure if I'll go to P. P. though ? The first week will be Siem Reap and motorcycle shopping - I'm not a tourist -I'm now moving to Asia. You look like my old buddy 'Andy' from Austria ! Prices and info is appreciated, safety and street crossing advice or technique - also valuable!! Take care & keep smilin
Thanks guys for your precious guide lines about combodia I am from India and I would love to visit combodia... whenever you guys make plan to visit India i live in kullu, Manali nd kasol your most welcome remember me I am here...
Thanks for making a positive video about the city. I've lived in Phnom Penh for many years and it's sometimes a bit grimy but it's a great city. The "Russian Market" name seems to be only used for tourists, as you mentioned the local name is "Psah Tuol Tom Pong", which translates as "market (on the) raised ground (big) (belonging to) Pong." In the 1980s it was an area frequented by many Soviet advisors, there is a "Soviet Khmer Friendship Hospital" not far away which was initially built in the 1960s but had continued aid from the USSR in the 1980s.
Agree with the title. I had trip to Siemriep Last week. In SiemReap is more expensive. I must spend at least US$ 5 -7 for lunch or dinner. US$ 3 for 5 pcs key chain, compare with Singapore the price only US$ 3-4 for Lunch or Dinner and US $ 0.8 for 5 pcs key chain.
Excellent dude ! I'm moving to Cambodia Sept 5th ! My old buddy is teaching in S Reap , so will be met by my new girl friend and old buddy - on arrival. Have fun and take care crossing streets there -
I have to admit that Cambodia is amazingly super cost effective. Appreciate you going through these market costs, but please share more eating experiences. Both quality and price :) Safe travels, James and Kim
Nice video guys, as always. Yes, the markets in Cambodia are great, I bought so many great inexpensive things there.. It is pretty cheap to live in Phnom Penh and even cheaper in Siem Reap.... Hope you'll have the chance to try the fish amok Khmer dish....
they are only come cambodia tourist play ,why need thanks visit cambodia??? can come or don't want come ,un to they, cambodia have beautiful history and power history and culture alwany at here. im chinese i love cambodia , ancient khmer empire is power empire ,is south east asia center. Cambodia has its own proud history and culture.
If you cross over to the other side of the river, you'll get to Chroy Changva. Take the Japanese Bridge, then head towards Sokha Hotel which is on the right. It will take you no more than 15 minutes if you use GRAB. You'll find so many open restaurants which are cheap and yummy. If you're coming to or from the airport, make sure you take the train to the city centre for only $2.50. Check my TH-cam channel for the video. Happy travels and thanks for your report.
When I was there s21 was a run down overgrown place. I see they have spent a lot of money restoring it. When I was there the floors were black from blood stains
@@KristynaRomain You are right it should be left . The people of Cambodia have been thru so much, it is hard to watch it on the internet not sure I could see it in person. Stay safe in your travels.
i recommend PassApp instead of tuk tuk. it costs cheaper than tuk tuk .(far cheaper) but if u 2 r kind hearted people help giving job to tuk tuk drivers. btw welcome to cambodia n have fun.
Great video, and you are doing a great job of “going local” by eating the local food and shopping in the local markets. However, I lived in Phnom Penh for six months in 2008 and found it to be the most expensive by far of all the Southeast Asia countries. If you are going to stay awhile, the rents are steep. The economy is heavily dollarised, with everything rounded up to the nearest dollar ... or $5. But what really ruined it were the transport costs. Your $3.50 tuk-tuk ride, for instance, would cost you $5 after sunset. So, if you commute to work in the daytime and go out at night, it is quite easy to spend $20 a day getting around - or $600 a month! Comparable transport in Hanoi, by comparison, might average more like $5 a day.
It can be more expensive if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you shop for food at local market, cook at home, and use passapp it’s quite cheap. Plus, we rent a beautiful apartment for only $250 a month.
I got friends who lived in Ho Chi Minh/Saigon, Bangkok and Vientiane. We're from the French school and people often switch around the Indochina area, and by far, Phnom Penh and Vientiane are the cheapest cities. You just gotta know where to go
I lived in that part of the world for a decade, including extended stays in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Hanoi was very inexpensive. While local food in Cambodia was as cheap (but worse), Western food in restaurants and supermarkets was exorbitant, and housing & transport costs were easily twice as much in Phnom Penh than they were in northern and central Vietnam. Maybe it has changed since, but this was the case in 2008-09 during the hyper-inflation at the beginning of the global financial crisis. Add in a more grim and distrustful local populace, and there was just no contest over where I’d rather be. Interestingly, too, every Cambodian I ended up making friends with were “Kampuchea Khrom” or Khmer-Vietnamese from the Can Tho area of far southern Vietnam. Many were in Phnom Penh to work, and they were cheerful and friendly like other Vietnamese. (The Thai-Khmer in northeast Thailand are also sweet, if a bit unscrupulous.) The actual Khmer locals in PP, meanwhile, seemed like the most joyless and abject people in southeast Asia. All in all, after five months in PP, I was thoroughly depressed and financially depleted. I couldn’t get out fast enough.
@@jessikat56 Does the apartment have free wifi? How much do you pay for utilities? I'm planning on moving to Cambodia for about a year to teach English.
Kelly Tostada Yes it does! It was even sort of shoddy so the owners bought us our own router to put inside our apartment so it would be much better. They are all very accommodating out here. The Khmer are incredibly nice and reasonable people.
funny thing in cambodia, some khmer vendors/servicer if they new your a foreigner they will make the price so high. i know cause i now am staying at chom chao
We didn’t have the time 😔 we will have to come back one day. We had some bad days in Cambodia and we didn’t film. We went to Koh Rong and didn’t make video about it. What a shame 😏
Tuol Tompoung market was every attractive to Russians during 1980s (due to economical, educational and tourism relation between Cambodia and Soviet Union) even many Cambodian vendors there could speak Russian. It’s still attracted lots of tourists from all over the world until nowadays. In Khmer, we always call it, Tuol Tompoung market.
