Of course, there are some cases where that can be tricky or not a best solution if you can't fix the mesh after. This is a short video where you can see what you have to do if you don't want to use Boolean: look at your mesh, create edges where you want more details for holes and use LoopTools for quick fix.

the problem is that it destroys the edge loops by doing it this way sadly so i guess there is no real way of doing it without destruction
