Thank you for these tips. I'm usually pretty good at finding our unmarked queen, but the last time we inspected I never found her. We'll be back in the hive this weekend and I WILL find her this time! Fortunately we saw eggs and larvae, so we know she was there somewhere.
We need to remark ours that came in the packages we ordered. They are mark, red and it looked great when we got them. Now there is only a little left just around the outer edge of the area where one marks.
This brought a question to my mind. I'm anticipating having my first hive next year so I haven't yet seen it myself, but a lot of people use a queen excluder so that she doesn't lay in the supers. Do you think the queen excluder contributes to potential swarming if she runs out of room to lay eggs?
Last inspection our queen was hiding on the green drone comb and in an empty drone cell. She stayed in the cell for 5 minutes while we executed a mite test. It's like she knew we were gonna pick her up
In 42 years I have been stung by a queen twice. Its a lot different than worker bees. Its just a little sharp stick and thats all.Dont be scared of a queen sting as it almost doesnt happen nor hurt.
Hi David. Could you do a video on different ways to mark queens and your thoughts on them. I can't pick up my queen because i have to wear gloves and im nervous about picking her up. This was a great video👍
This isn’t the dating video I thought it was
Too funny!

Comment of the week! 😅😂
Thanks David. I'm one of those that has a hard time identifying the queen. This helps!
Great video as always!

Wives come in handy for picking up those little queen wings. I'm struggling with picking her up too.
I am TERRIFIED to try and mark my queen! I'm so afraid I will kill her 😮
