Just a heads up on account that it comes up here, but the term "gypsies" was originally leveled against their people in a derogative light. They would rather be referred to as the "Romani Nomads" or "Roma", a more traditional term for their peoples.
Regardless, excellent voice work here! The character personalities were really carried through their vocal representation.

@@JM-mh1pp No seriously, I've asked a few myself. As for that particular tomb, either it contains someone who wasn't originally of Romani origin, or it's another example of a society integrating their slurs out of spite.
How do I explain it... Think of all of the times that someone has said a swear word for a group, but get off they hook because they themselves are part of that group. I'm sure you can think of at least a few. Using a word and not wanting others to use it aren't mutually exclusive, y'know?

@@connormacdonald9217 This guy was...a king...like, literally a leader of the entire group. I doubt he would want to put a slur on his own grave considering that after 80 years from his death it is still one of the most impressive and well kept graves in the whole cemetery (and just to give you a bit of perspective, there are like 3 bishop level graves there)
Gypsy was not a slur for a group.
It turned into one after they introduced themselves.
They always had little regard for the laws of the land, they are in fact famous for it. If you talked with some of them surely you must know about their code of conduct and laws.
This is not a situation that black people had in USA, this is not about skin colour. It is a well developed culture, a very secretive group which never wanted to assimilate into any nations . Their disregard for laws gave them the aura of rebels and outcast, and they are treated with both distrust but at the same time there is a certain aura of romanticism to it.
I am writing to you from Poland, we have their singers here, their dancers, one of the most famous singer in Poland was half gypsy...
      guess how they call themselves
Gypsy bands. Gypsy music. The only time I hear "Roma" is when I talk with university educated ones who are barely accepted into their own groups (As they are not "true" gypsies)
Some people do not want your white knighting or protection, they care little for it, they just want to be left alone.

      @@JM-mh1pp No, it’s not.
G*psie was originally a slur used by non Roma people in order to denote the Roma as thieves, liars, and generally dehumanize them.
Roma is one of the proper names for them
G*psie is the Romas equivalent to the N word, or To use a slur I can actually say since I’m queer, Faggot. Meaning, they can say g*psie if they choose to reclaim it, just as black people from America can say the N word, but those not from those communities shouldn’t use those words bc of their history and just general decency
Edit: read your second comment. Can’t say I’m surprised a European is racist towards Roma people. As for what you said: Roma culture is what it is. Your justifications for how you’re speaking of them is the same type that racists in my country, America , would use to justify their racism towards Black and Indigenous people. “It isn’t about skin color, it’s the culture” is a go to cop out for racists everywhere.
As for your “white knighting” comments- I don’t need to be part of a community to combat bigotry. I know what it’s like to be marginalized by a culture and society that you didn’t even want to have to interact with to begin with, but have to because they also exist.

I understand that characters speak with urgency at some points, but if you slow down your readings, the urgency is a lot more felt rather than rushed through at breakneck speed. ţigani is the word for Gipsy in Romanian. It refers to culture and or race. Romani refers to Romanians. Saying Romani means Gipsy is like saying American means Caucasian. In my time in Romania a sizable amount of people identified themselves to me as ţigani. Some were rich, some poor, some dark, some light. Some said the word with pride, shame, love, hate or fear. Few agreed on what qualified someone as ţigani. For those who are questioning the authors choice of including the word gipsy I counter with another question. Is gipsy a slur because you have decided to view it as such reguardless of the way the author used it?

We have to eat plants to live, we can eat animals if we like. Not trying to make a morale judgment about peoples diets, just stating the facts. For the better part of human history it was truly meat or starve. Some exceptions, mostly not. Trying to get all the required nutrients from plants is a thing only very recently possible due to global markets, trade, and logistics. Vegan diets require exotic foods factory farmed in far flung locales. There's a reason all the vegans in the world are in developed countries; its a modern convenience. In the third world you eat what you can get. Vegetarianism that allows fish, dairy, and eggs is more doable but even that's also modern western convenience mostly.
Meat is just more nutrient dense, hence most athletes, particularly in strength sports, having omnivorus diets.

We only know the people by the name of Gypsy, and it's used simply as a name rather than a slur. I humbly suggest we give the author the benefit of the doubt and assume no offense was intended.
Edit: In America, Gypsy is also a term for a person who travels a lot, who has no permanent home, or just someone with a very carefree attitude. In fact it's more likely to be used in that context rather than to refer to a particular group of people.
