    The English commentators also pronounce the "aa" in (Frida) Maanum wrong all the time. It's not like the "a" sound in "right", it's like "a" in "saw".

      English commentators apparently have trouble pronouncing anything. With Spanish names they pronounce the z like a th.

      Am I being dumb? Where is the “a” sound in “right”?

      @@rileyxxxx because that's how the Spanish pronounce z

      @@indigo8315 I was too hasty in choosing "right" to illustrate my point. The vowel in "right" (i), creates a diphthong sound (two vowels). Also, I think the choice makes more sense to Norwegians like myself. My mistake.
      A better word would be the first "a" in "drama".

      Certain sounds in languages different from one's own can be downright impossible to learn if one never did as a child. It's just like how Japanese people experience immense difficulty in pronouncing English correctly. And like how Norwegians like myself just find themselves unable to master the pronunciation of the Slavic languages native to many of the immigrants we have here.

      Incredibly easy for me as a German. The word "reiten" means riding in german and it’s pronunciation is almost identical to her last name.

      Honestly, no shade towards our buddies from the island, but I feel like no one over there actually makes an effort to pronounce foreign names even slightly correctly. Kind of ignorant if you ask me. Does Bellinghams name get butchered in Spain? I don’t think so.

    We love you Guro! We don't mean to mispronounce her name but the presenter is right, it is really disrespectful and we need to do better. I'm gonna work on saying her name and my god her native language is so beautiful!

    Is this interview in Norwegian or Swedish? Sounds more Swedish to me but I'm aware she's norwegian

    • @swedishfootballcontent
      @swedishfootballcontent  ปีที่แล้ว

      She's being interviewed by Swedish media, so the reporters speak Swedish. But Guro speaks Norwegian. Usually those who live in Oslo sound most like Swedish, but she's not from there. So she sounds very Norwegian to me, compared to Frida Leonhardsen Maanum, for example, who is from Oslo. But Norwegian and Swedish are quite similar languages, so I understand if people outside Scandinavia can't hear it 😄

    Google Translate also does an excellent job at butchering Guro Reiten's name xD
    Check it out, compare english-norwegian.

    Sounds like she pronounced "Guro" as "Guru".. maybe is the way how Norwegians pronounced it.

    Yep we English can trash all pronunciation, but Siobhan Chamberlain can take it a step further, rocking up as a pundit not even knowing who all the players on the field are, even famous ones, and no doubt expects to get paid for it!

    She isnt the first and she wont be the last. And its not just in England. Joao Felix even at Madrid had his name pronounced incorrectly

    The weird thing is it’s pronounced exactly how it looks, from an English perspective. Commentators literally call her Guru??? 😭
