As a person who holds most Tories in contempt, and doesn't agree with this man's politics, I can say that was a very balanced and clear-headed speech. It really is greatly appreciated when a politician talks straight.

I hold ALL tories in contempt & giving them an easy ride because of what you might consider as a conciliatory speech is not in my locker I’m afraid . It’s the snake swerving word salad & sleight of hand that they all possess . They need to be defeated & crushed in every corner for the good & sake of all ordinary working people . They never have never will & & never can explain why they do NOT fulfill the objective of any government which should be firstly to protect & look after it’s people first & foremost . Big business & keeping the masses down & in “ their “ place is their only interest & it just shows how easy they have achieved that over the last 12 years with their ownership of media outlets ( murdoch & the 4 or 5 other wealthy media owners ) it’s not a coincidence !

@@marksykes5434 I've read your comment a couple of times, and honestly, I can't find anything I disagree with. I don't disown my original comment necessarily, but there's probably something to be said for the Tories being so uniformly vicious these days that any attempt at human civility stands out. If I remember correctly though, this fella William Wragg is the guy who accused Tory whips of blackmail? I did think that was quite brave considering the circumstances. I have no idea why anyone would be a Tory but he does seem one of the closest to being what they supposedly stand for (civic decency etc). But when you said "They need to be defeated & crushed in every corner for the good & sake of all ordinary working people", I really couldn't think of anything to say back to that except...Yep, sounds good to me!

Legal advice was necessary due to a number of factors including the exemption of Crown Buildings in previous legislation and its effect on the subsequent legislation. My 1952 MP needed minders to ensure he stayed vertical when the hustings arrived.
An engineering town and the drunk got back every election.
Sat in the Commons and the Lords 1952 to 2005 and I questioned why we have such a place knowing of this mans record?
Max Hastings told the Tories and the country Johnson would lie before the vote and was ignored.
How many Excess Deaths over whichever Christmas, Nursing Homes, Medics transport workers, all those who couldn't work from home, every Covid 19 death is a tragedy, no exceptions.
Johnson, Jenrick and the cohort who all feel every Covid death acutely shows the depraved level where politics and politicians have arrived at.
What the country requires is another Gillray, the cartoonist from George the Third and if you don't know the history.
The country that could afford the print, in vidid colour of very fat men, the King and courtiers, ladies in hooped skirts as the rich dressed.

    • @Vee-jc1qh

From my perspective, photo op hiv-viz man, and never at his desk, is a puppet of the ERG group, the Britannia Unchained charmers on the front bench and every other Tory MP doing their utmost to undermine every democratic institution in the UK. In 2019, this country had a righ-wing coup. Upcoming Bills in Parliament are testament to this. Steve Baker and the company he keeps are equivalent to some of the most authoritarian sort. Is Steve Baker, better or worse, than you know who, of course he is. The only difference between Steve Baker and him, SB has many influential backers eg Koch Bros, Roberto Mercer and many others. We already have dominance in right-wing media platforms becoming more extremist in their reporting. And, the saddest and most frightening thing is, when divide and rule is pursued by whatever means, the rule of law is consigned to the dustbin, pitting groups of people against each other, the wealthiest deciding many of our laws to a populations disadvantage, "we the people" are doomed. Happy days, not! When will this rot stop? I can only hope it will, and the sooner the better.
