As someone from gent im just saying, if you're ever in gent and want the "real local experience", dont visit frites atelier, its an overpriced, overhyped and overrated shop, if you want real fries visit a real "frituur" (fry shop), not a cashgrab place.
I'm glad this place was not open when I stopped there based on this video, however I followed their White Lion recommendation and food wad surprisingly good for a touristy area restaurant.
It’s so funny to see your own country ( Belgium ) through the lens of an American… but David, really got most of the facts straight here during this belgian tour. Ok somethings got a bit lost in translation but really good job! Especially compared with other Americans making this content here in Belgium

Absolutely loving this series on Belgium! Your style and the engaging conversations are so refreshing. But, pindasaus on fries? Oh, come on now, that's bordering on treachery for us Belgians! 😜 Besides our iconic waffles (which we rarely indulge in), chocolates, and fries, we're also big on sandwiches. Definitely give the 'martino' a shot next time - a popular sandwich with raw minced beef.

The uniquely tiled floor and menu on the mirror at Frites Atelier were both so beautiful and unique!! I could watch those fresh crunchy fries being tossed from that bowl all afternoon 😆😍

As a local, i buy mustard @ Tierenteyn, and pies @ Julie's house (or Tartes de Francoise - lets keep it fair). Even learned a thing or two about my own city! Glad you liked it here, so do I :).
If I remember correctly, Tierentyn turned down an offer to become a global mustard brand after Dijon mustard became global, "if they want Tierentyn, they need to come get it in our shop"
Awesome ……a whole show just on Ghent…….we were there on a tour from Brussels……our time there was so short (1 hour) wish we could’ve spent 3 days there.

Hey David, nice that you likte our City, next time go to a frituur mouche cheaper frietatelier have there different concepts . And original stu saus (stoverijsaus ore with meat) one the french fry much glacier ask for fresh onion and fryd onion and herbs for sate and pili pili saus ore samurai sause on the top little bit 🔥 . My favorite 😍

I really love Belgium! Love the architecture. Old days had the best building houses ever in my opinion. Beautiful. That fortress is awesome what a site.. Just imagine back then. The food is amazing Love fries and the toppings are amazing. Would love to try . Burger looked good to.. Now mustard I'm a mustard person to ever since kid. I used to eat spoonful by itself lol.. Love Love .And all the different mustards to try oh yes love it. Those candies look good to would have to try some.. Now the cake pie yummy gosh.. lol. Love the river ride. Get to see all the buildings and love the buildings Nice relax bit history :) i could use a shot or two or 3 so np i will drink them for you :D you can stick with the cow ? ha-ha The brewery's love them have so many lovely kinds.. Love Dark and Pale ales :) Nice the distillery is amazing love it. That safe is wow ! beautiful. Drinks inside look great I want to try them to. yeah go ahead keep drinking get loose lolz David.. but pass me some shots to!! Food at the end of the day great. Honestly its such a beautiful country and to be honest I only regret I couldn't get backroom access to the mustard making process. I definitely think you'd have enjoyed the River Ride, and of course the architecture is so incredible. Really appreciative of the comment and hoping you are doing really well too.

"Proost" is more common in the Netherlands, "Santé" or "Op uw gezondheid" are more common in Belgium when saying cheers. Pity you didn't check out the big mulitcultural food scene in Ghent.

Belgian fries can't be compared with dutch ones. We had the first ones a few centuries before the Netherlands !!!
So you went to frites atelier Amsterdam… in the heart of the land from frites is like going to eat fries in McDonald’s… man why??
to be fair they use the belgian method and worked with michelin star cheffs to device the menu, they added saté sauce i guess but they clearly stick to the Belgian methods
You're supposed to put the mussle shells in each other so they can fit in the can and it's easier to clean up!
Not really "supposed" to do this. I've never done this. Usually, they clear the bowl with the empty ones now and then so there is more room.
