    This is the real deal. You can't get more belgian like this(maybe with videe and moulles frites).
    It's the perfect balance betweem the french and flemish/dutch speaking sides.
    You had a real treat.

    Hey David loved the video. Just a quick heads-up. Combining the foods on your plate is also a big thing here in Belgium. Like you dipped your fries in the gravy. You really should mix the bloodsausage with the apple and the bacon/sausage with the mashed potatos. I dind't see that in the video and wanted you to know that. So, if you ever eat Belgian again, don't miss out on the combinations possible in 1 plate.

    In 1987 i worked with a Chef from Bruges Belgium and he taught me so much World Culture and refinement that i became educated because of The Belgian Chef Carl Gudereis of Bruge Belgium.

      The Dutch kitchen is very different to the Belgian one. Belgian kitchen is more like in the north of France.

      @@Ionisus Stroopwafel, stamppot (and the many varieties it has), gerookte worst, poffertjes, oliebollen, limburgse vlaai, kroket, hollandse nieuwe, drop, snert, cheese, Brabantse worstenbroodjes, suikerbrood, bosche bol, gevulde speculaas... Certainly no food culture there. Whether you consider it an intresting food culture, that's something different.

      @@Woudloper I actually feel that the Belgiums, on the Flemish side of things, tend to be more friendly than the Dutch. I've had very mixed experiences with people that were from Bruxelles and further south. But I would agree that Belgium is nicer for food and beers.

    Thank you for not raving about crappy beers or waffles with random toppings but instead having a real conversation about traditional Belgian food and beer culture. Love 't spinnekopke, simple traditional food with good ingredients prepared the right way.

    I was in the poech yesterday as an " habitué" Local call it the poech ( pronounced pouch). Taras boulba is a season beer and the favorite of my wife. No puppet show there, but yoy can still enjoy it at Toon theatre ( and they also serve beer in a typical athmosphere but not 150😂)

    The dutch dont use salad with the hering...they do use pickled onion/pickles in some regions :) looks quite dutch with the mashed potatoes..:)

    For the French Canadian lady, Brussels native like myself will typically sound extremely close to regular french people, we have a few influences from our flemish brethren in some of our accents and expressions, but since the internet we have been heavily influenced by french medias and french people in general.
    If I didn't specify I was Belgian most french wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

    in Belgium it is normal to eat thick cuts of bacon. This is probably less common in America where they prefer thinly sliced

    that beefstew looked good . but i know my mom makes it better . she makes a true flemish stew . the day after it always tasted 10 times better . she also had a recipe for spaghetti sause that i've never tasted in a restaurant . my grandmother made a mayo that is similat to hellmans but hellmans is like the softy version

      For info, sirop de Liège is just reduced apple juice. My Flemish neighbourgs in Courcelles were cooking their own sirop every year from their appletrees.

    Bonjour David. Parlez vous francais, non. Eh bien. Food looks okay to me, but this is not food I can enjoy: raw fish, red meat, blood pudding. I used to eat a lot of the black/blood pudding in Trinidad. The potato dish sort of reminds me of the British bubble and squeak. Alcohol and liquor, not for me. At least you and Tasos enjoyed it.     Traditional Belgian and Dutch food...pretty straight forward,pretty boring. I lived in Holland nd love the country,now living in Brussels and i'm a chef. Well Germanic food in general is like this that goes for Scandinavia also and yes i've lived in Sweden too. don't get me wrong there are top class chefs in all these countries,but when it comes to traditional...eh

    It's Belgian food, not Belgium food. Belgian is the adjective, Belgium is the noun. After all, you wouldn't say France food or Germany food now would you?

    Do your research, Lambiek can only be made in the valley of the Zenne River, how can they make it in the Netherlands? 3 Fonteinen one of the biggest breweries of Lambiek/Geuze in Belgium, you don't know what you are talking about! 3 Fonteinen is nice, but it is not big!

    Belgium is one of the coolest countries to visit. The best food and excellent nightlife. Only place to avoid is Brussels, and avoid at all costs. It's horrible. Instead go to the Bruges, Ghent, Hasselt, Ostend or the ardennes.

      Rubbish! Brussels is not "horrible" or "to avoid at all costs". This sounds like the clichés of most Walloons and Flemings, who know next to nothing about their own capital. Brussel is full of hidden gems - that people like you just don't know about.
