I always wondered why not make a video for each instance of unboxing? It would allow for earlier posting and it becomes something to look forward to each day you hit the box price mark, also we wont be able to know how many boxes you got through from the length of the video.
Wow. Ranging Raptors might not be too bad for a Modern Budget Deck. I'm thinking R/G. Ranging Raptors + Pyroclasm = boardwipe (of T2 or less Creature Spells) AND you get a tapped basic land card from your library. Hmm, not bad :)

Haha yeah buddy! I remember pumping quarters into a stand card vending machine. Allowance went to those, candy and Garbage Pail Kids cards. HAHA. Still got em all in storage.
So I bought a box of Ixalan from my LGS the Buy a Box booster pack was not great (hey they can't all be winners) but then I divided the box up into 3 stacks of 6 cards and used them to teach my girlfriend how to build a limited deck from them. First round I showed her how I build one and then helped her build a deck then we play a few games with it. Next round I had her build her deck and only came around at the end to give advice on the final cuts, again we played a few games with the cards. Final round she flew solo and ended up building a really nice Naya Dinosaur deck. As for card value I think we either beat or matched that box price but we had an amazing Magic filled weekend and that was well worth the price of admission.
I'd like to add a suggestion. Put a "Remaining Packs" counter in the upper right. Add some suspense to the close calls on the boxes. Give that, "Oh he's down to 3 packs and at $99" feeling. Yes we can all count but at the same time it just adds that little bit extra. Just a thought.
Love the booster box game and loved this video. That said, IMO the best part of Ixalan is not the value of its big hits but rather the tremendous quality of the commons and uncommons. You can legitimately hope to 3-0 an Ixalan draft without a single rare or mythic. Heck, you may even be able to 3-0 with a pauper deck if you get the right mix of cards for a Naya Dino deck. It's such an accessible set. It's also a great set for younger and newer players--both in theme, and in terms of the quality of relatively easy cards to play. It's just fun.
Not just Pirates and Dino's, but Merfolks do pretty good as well. That said, my MVP form the set as far as pre-release and drafts went was Siren Ruse, especially coupled with the Hostage taker I drafted, and several of the Explore/ETB cards.
This video was really entertaining. I haven't played MTG since starting a family so this is my one budget friendly way to get my MTG fix. Thank you for putting out great content.

I bought and opened six of those Dinosaurs Attack! boxes a few years from someone on eBay. I actually managed to piece together four complete sets. It was pretty fun to read through the story again after all these years. I used to collect them when I was a kid. Didn't get a complete set until I was an adult though. Still a lot of fun. Glad you worked them in, even if only as a joke.
It would've been more funny if the prices in tcgmid of the wierd dinosaur collection cards and the price of the gum were shown on the screen as you go by... great content as always xD
I like opening packs. I find it satisfying and fun to do. I generally buy a box and open 4 packs a week. That way one box basically covers all the booster packs I'd have bought over the set's lifetime and gives me the opportunity to draft with my friend if he can make it down(he lives 1.5 hours away and we both work full time.)

The only issue I ever have with these is that there's no counter for how many card packs are left. It could make it more interesting and suspenseful to know how many more are left. Other than that, I love these! Keep them up!
Nice! i got lucky and opened one up and got about 130 in value. the tyrant , a vraska and a worrier poet and a couple ok foil rares and mythics. i figured without a foil jace or tyrant thats about as good of a box as you can get. love the the box game! keep it up

Upvoting for dinosaurs attacks. My dad loved and collected non sports cards, and those dinosaurs attacks/mars attacks always had a special place for us. My heart goes out to you, even as a child I did not have the guts to eat that gum.
I think the way wizards saves magic is by making spicy commons and uncommons whether they be reprints or new cards that can shape the formats helps if s common holds a 1$ or uncommon 2$-3$ through rotation

I think it would be great if you kept a tally of how many packs were opened and how many are left in each box to build the anticipation of the close calls on weather another box will happen or not.
I still have all my cards from dinosaurs attack. I managed to get a complet set. They are in awful awful condition but still one of my favorite possessions from when I was a kid and the thing that got me into card collecting.
I'm still wondering what the Prof's prospective is on why standards sets as of late have little to no real value (excluding masterpieces and expeditions), yet we get something like MM17 that consistently accumulated enough value to go up to six boxes. Personally, I think it's a combination of Wizard's refusal to make any meaningful reprints, as well as a huge downgrade in power level of these new cards. Walk the Plank could have easily been an instant and valuable because it's playable in formats that aren't Standard. Everything's becoming strictly worse. Everything has to be sorcery speed, or have insane limitations that take a good mechanic and make it bad. Embalm could have been way more if we didn't have the limit of it being sorcery speed, or the embalm costs weren't so insanely high. Yeah, you could be flashing in a 6/6 token, but it's a token. Not only does it die to normal removal, but we had a fancy little blue spell called Unsummon that was just as effective, if not more so than most of the kill spells in standard.

I think the problem with that though is that burn decks are always going to be fast, and so they tried to slow them down, but that caused the other archetypes to become faster, so they had to power them down as well. Instead of slowing everything down to make it more "fair," Wizards needs to let players experience true magic. We've been dealing with this for the last year or so where one or two archetypes really shine because they happen to be faster than the rest, and the others get stomped out at FNM. It's sad when Mono-White humans was your go-to aggro strategy for a season. By slowing everything down and powering down the cards, it's taking the creativity out of deck building. You can be as creative and stylish as you want, but you won't do too well at FNM because your strategy just doesn't match up to the few cards that happen to actually be playable. This fear of making meaningful reprints is unsubstantiated. Everyone points to Thoughtseize as a reason why we shouldn't get reprints anymore, but they never mention that Thoughtseize really was only as bad as it was because the rest of the set was just as bad without it. Mono-black Pack Rat/Devotion was already a powerful strategy without Thoughtseize. Thoughtseize just got the blame because people were used to it in Modern.
By making everything sorcery speed? But putting large restrictions on otherwise good spells and abilities? We don't even have a good instant kill spell. Walk the Plank would be reasonable at instant speed. On par with Go for the Throat or Victim of Night, but instead it's sorcery speed and not all that good. We don't even have good answers to vehicles, since apparently we're stuck with them for another year. Smuggler's Copter wouldn't have needed banned if we had decent creature/artifact removal. Looter Scooter isn't even broken, otherwise we'd see its banning in Modern. If Wizards wasn't so timid about playable removal, Kaladesh wouldn't have been so overpowered as people claim.

Because in my experience, every player thinks the thing they like is "true Magic" and everything would be better if Wizards catered to them, not realizing that it's subtly, or completely, different from every other player's idea of what Magic "really" is. For example: I'd be willing to bet my ideal Magic game is a LOT slower than yours.
Bought a Booster Box just for the (*THRILL*) gamble of it and while I didnt make my money back, it did build ~90% of my new grixis pirates deck and give me a handful of "might spike later" cards like Ripjaw and Bastion. I also pulled a foil Baral from the buy a box pack which I didnt ask for but definitely wont complain about.
I ate the gum from an old(1990?) pack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cards a few years ago and it was so hard and brittle that it cut my mouth. My cheek and gums were bleeding fairly substantially. Shit was not cool.

Upvoting for dinosaurs attacks. My dad loved and collected non sports cards, and those dinosaurs attacks/mars attacks always had a special place for us. My heart goes out to you, even as a child I did not have the guts to eat that gum.
I think the way wizards saves magic is by making spicy commons and uncommons whether they be reprints or new cards that can shape the formats helps if s common holds a 1$ or uncommon 2$-3$ through rotation

I think it would be great if you kept a tally of how many packs were opened and how many are left in each box to build the anticipation of the close calls on weather another box will happen or not.

I still have all my cards from dinosaurs attack. I managed to get a complet set.
They are in awful awful condition but still one of my favorite possessions from when I was a kid and the thing that got me into card collecting.
I'm still wondering what the Prof's prospective is on why standards sets as of late have little to no real value (excluding masterpieces and expeditions), yet we get something like MM17 that consistently accumulated enough value to go up to six boxes.
Personally, I think it's a combination of Wizard's refusal to make any meaningful reprints, as well as a huge downgrade in power level of these new cards. Walk the Plank could have easily been an instant and valuable because it's playable in formats that aren't Standard. Everything's becoming strictly worse. Everything has to be sorcery speed, or have insane limitations that take a good mechanic and make it bad. Embalm could have been way more if we didn't have the limit of it being sorcery speed, or the embalm costs weren't so insanely high. Yeah, you could be flashing in a 6/6 token, but it's a token. Not only does it die to normal removal, but we had a fancy little blue spell called Unsummon that was just as effective, if not more so than most of the kill spells in standard.

I think the problem with that though is that burn decks are always going to be fast, and so they tried to slow them down, but that caused the other archetypes to become faster, so they had to power them down as well. Instead of slowing everything down to make it more "fair," Wizards needs to let players experience true magic. We've been dealing with this for the last year or so where one or two archetypes really shine because they happen to be faster than the rest, and the others get stomped out at FNM. It's sad when Mono-White humans was your go-to aggro strategy for a season.
By slowing everything down and powering down the cards, it's taking the creativity out of deck building. You can be as creative and stylish as you want, but you won't do too well at FNM because your strategy just doesn't match up to the few cards that happen to actually be playable. This fear of making meaningful reprints is unsubstantiated. Everyone points to Thoughtseize as a reason why we shouldn't get reprints anymore, but they never mention that Thoughtseize really was only as bad as it was because the rest of the set was just as bad without it. Mono-black Pack Rat/Devotion was already a powerful strategy without Thoughtseize. Thoughtseize just got the blame because people were used to it in Modern.
They need to power down the format because Kaladesh was insane. The same thing happened after Mirrodin.
By making everything sorcery speed? But putting large restrictions on otherwise good spells and abilities? We don't even have a good instant kill spell. Walk the Plank would be reasonable at instant speed. On par with Go for the Throat or Victim of Night, but instead it's sorcery speed and not all that good.
We don't even have good answers to vehicles, since apparently we're stuck with them for another year. Smuggler's Copter wouldn't have needed banned if we had decent creature/artifact removal. Looter Scooter isn't even broken, otherwise we'd see its banning in Modern. If Wizards wasn't so timid about playable removal, Kaladesh wouldn't have been so overpowered as people claim.

Oh, do tell what "true magic" is. Because in my experience, every player thinks the thing they like is "true Magic" and everything would be better if Wizards catered to them, not realizing that it's subtly, or completely, different from every other player's idea of what Magic "really" is.
For example: I'd be willing to bet my ideal Magic game is a LOT slower than yours.

Bought a Booster Box just for the (*THRILL*) gamble of it and while I didnt make my money back, it did build ~90% of my new grixis pirates deck and give me a handful of "might spike later" cards like Ripjaw and Bastion. I also pulled a foil Baral from the buy a box pack which I didnt ask for but definitely wont complain about.

I ate the gum from an old(1990?) pack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cards a few years ago and it was so hard and brittle that it cut my mouth. My cheek and gums were bleeding fairly substantially. Shit was not cool.
