In this video I show you how to properly saddle and bridle a horse western style. I hope you guys learned something new! Please follow me on Twitter: AllBoutHorses_
I’m actually waiting for my instructor to email my mom about my schedule for lessons (once a month for an hour) and I still get confused on how to tack my training horse up. This vid helped a lot but I’m a scrawny 12 year old and I can’t lift the saddle, so I need help with that, but, yea
I really like how gentle you were in this video, I've seen other videos where people pretty much did everything wrong 😂 Didn't relieve wither pressure, threw saddle on too harsh, throatlatch too tight, everything 😂 And honey is literally so cute agh
Carol Charat yeah you're not supposed to sit under your horses belly brushing his legs either but I do 😂 without a riding hat on... he has been my best friend for 9 years and I know him very well so I trust him with my life and do lots of things you "should never" do according to instructors
I have a bare back saddle and I love riding my horse using the bare back saddle and my horse is perfectly fine with it and I don't even use a bridle I just use a halter and a lead rope to control my horse and my horse listens
I think this is the best video I've watched you handle your horse so well I love how pretty she is I have a quarter horse his name is lucky then I have 2 other quarter horses named Spartan and ghost .
Thank you so much! I'm starting western riding soon, and even though it's easier said than done, this really helped! :) (Btw, I'm coming from English saddle)
the two thin ones are for decoration and the one that is thicker and has holes Is for a back cinch which is for extra support when opening and to help keep the back of the saddle from coming up
Carol Charat The back cinch is very useful when you're roping calves/steers, since they will pull the rope tight. The back cinch helps keep the saddle stabilized during those situations.
Those thinner ones on the flower lookin thing are decor, but some westerns use em to whip the flank (without hurting them) to get them to move when they aren't responding to normal commands, or to get them to stop misbehaving
My horse I had when I was a kid use to bloat her stomach like that. The first time I tacked her up I didn't realize it being in to much of a rush to double check like I knew I was supposed to, so when I stuck a foot in the stirrup and started to lift myself up I landed square on my butt I swear she was laughing at me!
I ride western but got English for christmas but luckily i rode English before with my friend and did really well and even jumped and stayed on after falling off millions of times on my horse
I have been riding for so long but I just love videos like this also putting Western saddles on tall horses like mine is very hard because I have a shire and a lot of the times I have to stand on a step stool
Thanks So Much For This Vid. I'm In The Middle Of Training My Horse Star And I Was About To Put The Saddle On And I Was Like "Wait How Do I Do This 😆 Anyway Thanks
The way you tied your cinch strap is called “the texas t” and nobody does it these days but basically me and you😂 didnt know someone else did their cinches like this. Also i like how you put english rains on your western bridal
I’ve been on and off riding for the past three years and I’m now going to ride again starting next week and I promised myself I wouldn’t take a break again because I _love_ riding. And I don’t even know if I’m going to do Western or English and I have bad anxiety because there might be other, more experienced riders there that’ll think I’m dumb for not knowing how to tack up my horse. Even though it’s not realistic, I’m still scared out of my mind.
This video really helped lol I’m switching from English to western I thought it would be a lot harder to tack a western horse but it looks easier, is it possible for a horse to be fat for the girth? Cause my uncle has horses and they are so chubby! It’s really Hard to lighten the girth , When I lease one of them I’m going to get him in shape, my uncles likes fattening his pets!
Yes it just depends on the horse! You can measure their girth before purchasing the cinch, they make them in different sizes. Haha i definitely need a bigger size for Honey she's gained weight! Lol
So I have lived in Texas my whole life and when I was in kindergarten I dreamed to be a barrel racer. One day when I was like 10 or 11 my dream came true of riding a horse without anyone leading me. I went to a camp where I learned how to take care of and ride a horse at a walk and trot. The fall after that I started doing lessons and learned to barrel race I am now 13 and have been doing lessons for almost a year now. We would have a horse or two but we don’t have any land and can’t afford to move. Any advice for me? ( btw I know how to tack up fully, walk, trot, lope, lead, turn out, and feed)
A easier way to remember how to latch the under part of the saddle is to think of a peanut butter jelly sandwich first the bread then the peanut butter after that jelly then bread agin then make a sink and put the knife in the sink basically you want to make sure you have 4 rows then make the circle thing and put it through to end it. Once I found out this way to remember it I’m like thanks Lola for teaching me this
So what do you do with the pin on the girth that should be going into the hole of the leather? It was sticking out and you didn't say what you do with it.
Thanks this was very helpful, I started riding in August at a training stable and I train on a horse named Nugget (he’s adorable). And I’m 12 so I’m hoping I get a horse when I’m older and more educated. I always mess up with the girth (cinch) and how many times to loop it and stuff but this really helps. The way you do it seems a little more simple then the way I have to do it but it was still really helpful 👌 thank youuu ❤️
At my stables, we have a latigo, but it's a different latigo. I keep trying to find videos that show the kind of saddle we have. My instructor is kind of mean, so if I do it wrong she yells at me so...
Thanks this helped so much. I usually ride English but I have a western saddle, so I'm going to try it(haven't ridden western in forever) and ur horse is so cute😍
I'm helping with a birthday party today at the barn, and everyone there starts off western, but I'm an english rider so I really needed something to help point me in the right direction here lol. Thanks!
Allbouthorses I am not having my yearling he was to much for me but hopefully if my dad thinks I can have one I might have a horse of my own and sooon break him in western and when I need to learn how to tack up this is the video I will watch
this is a really helpful video for me since I was never taught how to saddle and everyone just did everything for me. I excercise someone's horse and they have a chest plate and it's pretty understandable but. Overall this was a helpful video.

Justin Merritt are you going to be riding western or English?
The official G I’m hoping (and pretty sure) I ride English. I wanna be able to jump, and we all know it’ll hurt BADLY with a western saddle. So ya
Justin Merritt have fun!
I really like how gentle you were in this video, I've seen other videos where people pretty much did everything wrong 😂 Didn't relieve wither pressure, threw saddle on too harsh, throatlatch too tight, everything 😂 And honey is literally so cute agh

Who else knows how to tack up but just enjoys watching these videos
Great video! I have not ride a horse for 5 years and now i'm getting back at it, so it is nice to have your tips helping me remember stuff 😊😊

UGH IM AN IDIOT
I never even though about doing that 😩
My mentor teaches me not to loop a rope around my arm (or hand), for safety reasons.
Carol Charat yeah you're not supposed to sit under your horses belly brushing his legs either but I do 😂 without a riding hat on... he has been my best friend for 9 years and I know him very well so I trust him with my life and do lots of things you "should never" do according to instructors
Jess93 riding a horse in general you have to trust them with your life
Baby Sky926 exactly. I trust my horses more than any person lol
Carol Charat the house was tied up
Mine too but tbh, I don’t listen😂
Thank you for this video! I might be starting riding lessons soon and I want to be able to impress my teacher. 😂🐴🐎

Mae Eliz where do u take lessons?
I have a bare back saddle and I love riding my horse using the bare back saddle and my horse is perfectly fine with it and I don't even use a bridle I just use a halter and a lead rope to control my horse and my horse listens
Kyra Dutra Bareback saddle or pad?
I ride in a bareback pad, with a bitless bridle too! My horse is green, but I will eventually teach him to neckrope
Sometimes I use my barrel saddle during basic workouts just to give my horse a little break bc it’s so much lighter.
Me: *Has been riding for ages*
"What if I'm doing it wrong?"
I think this is the best video I've watched you handle your horse so well I love how pretty she is I have a quarter horse his name is lucky then I have 2 other quarter horses named Spartan and ghost .
That’s so cool! What colors are they?
Thank you so much! I'm starting western riding soon, and even though it's easier said than done, this really helped! :) (Btw, I'm coming from English saddle)
I'm gonna switch from western to English, western is fun though!
you will have a blast because I rid e western
Stay English its more fun
@@Kovak75 please stop. I keep seeing your bad comments trash talking western riders. If you don’t like it, then why are you here??
I have a question. I ride English and know basically nothing about Western. On the saddle, what are the extra straps used for?
the two thin ones are for decoration and the one that is thicker and has holes Is for a back cinch which is for extra support when opening and to help keep the back of the saddle from coming up
"when opening?" What are you opening?

lopezmartha37 you use gravity throw it and direct it I. Am also short it doesn't hurt the horse
I ride a really tall horse so tacking up is a bit of a struggle but I'm usest to it 😃😃

On the thumbnail I noticed that the reins were behind the horn. Is that dangerous? I was told not to do it. But I love how your gentle with your horse

Well done cool 😎 girl awesome mare
This was awesome!!! Best one yet! I could never figure out the cinch! In your vid I could clearly see you doing it and fully understand!!! Tysm💗😊
Aww, glad it helped! Thanks so much!
Western saddles are super complicated, heavy, and overall cumbersome... it’s all knots and leathers and everything weight a ton and goes everywhere like omg.
Nothing like a nice English saddle you can carry over your arm,, out it over the pad and fasten the girth. Done.
I know this is old, but I'm wondering if your horse may have a slight injury.. when you placed your saddle pad, your horse's disposition completely changed.. notice how she turned her head slightly and nipped?

I ride English, and for me the girth is so different! I didn't know western had it differently...
you don't want to pull the latigo down when cinching your saddle, because that might shift the saddle to where it's not centered on your horses back, like you did pull upward to cinch.
You put on the sinch slowly to give the horse time to adjust and it won't bloat
They'll bloat up anyway
Mmmmmm. I'm not against all bits but that bit is really harsh like there's a lot of leverage, honestly do what you like but maybe go a little softer with your bit choice?
Do you have a saddle
Thx 4 the vid!
I ride English and I’m switching to western and dude your so much help. Thanks for making this video!
Who did it the exact way I was taught when my family had horses when I was younger. I will ONLY ride Western

Where did you get the head stall? i have been trying to find one like that but i cant and they all just look really unconformable.
