    I was lucky enough to buy this motor car. It was purchased in September 2021. Once collected it was immediately delivered to Karl Fisher vehicle autos in Heath Hayes for a full M. O. T. So far, it has had fitted;
    Four new calipers
    High pressure neoprene brake hoses.
    Four new discs
    All new mintex pads.
    A complete Stromberg x 4 overhaul kit.
    Carburettor vent/vacuum pipes.
    All new steering joints and gaiters.
    Petrol filler cap seals.
    Battery cooler fan motor.
    Centre console switch panel.
    Front floor pans levelled and split welded.
    Two Lucas period under bumper spot and fog lamps.
    So far so good parts=£1,000 Labour £2,000. Should be nice when it's finished. 😂 Let me add. I do not hold
    M. C. A, in any way responsible for the faults listed previously. I totally respect Derek and the integrity of both he and his staff. See you soon Derek, Cheers...

    Well now we have it , not just Clarkson but now Derek telling us what we already know that this is the car that God himself drives . You cannot get better . No matter what the German or the rest of the world ever come up with , the XJ6 and 12 drives and rides like no other machine ever invented or will ever be invented . Mine is so quiet , it hurts my eardrums and is the only place to be after a stressful day at work .

    The motoring press of the time said it was the finest prod engine ever produced.

    I enjoy your appraisals and honesty. It does drive better than my Bentley of the same year. A lovely Jag, someone will be very fortunate.

    DEREK, the Dad and Grandad of the Century. A Southerner but now our Yorkshire Rose. VOTE FOR DEREK !. Everyone needs a Morris Minor and an XJ. Well done Jack.

    If you've never driven an XJ saloon you need to as they are beautiful to drive put your foot down and they go like a train, but I prefer the even rarer Mk 1 V12 that came out towards the end of the mark one range. Nicer dashboard for one, but that mpg figure can be frightening.

    I had one of these years ago, one of the best cars i ever owned, power and comfort with all of the feel we expect from Jaguars of that period, apart from the series one 4.2 i had this was my favourite car, but wow was it juicy, put your foot down and you could see the fuel guage level drop, but why have one if you don't use it properly now and then.

    He's spot on here, they did drive better than ( or as smooth as ) a Shadow. The V12 was silk personified, but poodling around our conjested roads and not keeping on top of maintenance didn't help them, these could run on eleven cylinders for months and the average Joe wouldn't have been able to tell, and just getting to those spark plugs was not the easiest by any means, the 4.2 was indeed the easier model to live with ....... preferred Squadron Blue over Sable myself.

    Quite agree the best cars I ever owned were a Series 2 XJ6L 4.2 and a Series 2 Daimler Sovereign Coupe. Wonderful cars that drove perfectly better than any other cars I have owned which does include a Bentley. I had 2 XJS with the V12 engine afterwards but preferred the Series 2 XJS. Happy days !

    Great cars. When you drive you can get confused. You will not be.. sure whether you are looking at the rev counter or the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge can move at the same speed as the rev counter.

    One more comment. In Hamburg the mechanics for all over it = V12 and were amazed. As you know BMW and VW based there design on this cars engine.

    Why V12? Well, if You've owned one for 10 years or more then you'd understand. Brilliant engines. Best V12 ever designed.

      @@chiefrocka8604Don’t know what you’ve been driving but a correctly running 5.3 is a HELL OF A LOT quicker than a 4.2.

  • @andrewmoorey6103
    @andrewmoorey6103 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree, the V12 in one of these was an overcomplicated, underpowered boat anchor. 4.2 a better engine by far. Heart used to sink whe I had one of these in to service.
    Not that tge V12 was a bad design, could have been better in some areas, it formed the basis for Jaguars' successful LeMans entries but in the XJ it was so down tuned it was embarrassing. Tinworm always this car's Achilles heel.
