    Uggs Classic Short Pull-on Weather Boot Review - We just review crocs winter boot and a few weeks ago we reviewed the world famous shearling uggs. Unfortunately both of those boots did not live up to the hype and were not worth the money. So I thought it was only fair to ugg another shot and review their boot that either looks like a Kanye X Napoleon collab or uggs designed in 2048. So I bought a pair to cut in half and to run a couple quick tests on to see what's inside and if uggs can redeem themselves with this beautiful moon boot.

    I dont get the companies that say "oh we're using less *insert organic material that can be harvested responsibly *" because usually that means they're using plastic. And that's neither sustainable, nor environmentally friendly. Not to mention the nightmare that is the product's life cycle

    • @colbunkmust
      @colbunkmust 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yeah, there may be a carbon footprint associated with raising sheep, but wool is a sustainable and renewable product that has been used for thousands of years, whereas polyester is reliant on fossil fuels and can only be recycled a limited number of times.

      This is why I hate when I see "vegan leather". Just tell me it's plastic. I'm not an idiot. I can decide which one I would want. It's so maddening and angering that designers are trying to pull this stuff.

      @@theconfusingwords People who dress entirely in synthetic clothing never seem paranoid about intense heat or fire. I saw a girl one time stand too close to the bonfire and her dress and pantyhose melted to the back of her legs. And now most people's synthetic carpets and rugs and couches and beds are all both teasing and mouth watering to fire.

    • @ajjdgj6tmgedvnmtmek
      @ajjdgj6tmgedvnmtmek 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@section7173 Since the 1970s when couch foam basically became napalm when lighted, there's been a huge regulatory effort to require anti-melting and flame-retardant chemicals in synthetic home goods. It's why nearly everything comes with a tag that says it's "all new", since that means that it's compliant with current fire safety practices at time of manufacture, and doesn't use repurposed old stuff that's less fire resistant. Synthetic materials are perfectly fire safe if made correctly: Nomex is the standard material for firefighting equipment, race jumpsuits, and aircraft flight jumpsuits. Nomex is a synthetic but it melts at a high enough temperature that you can put it into a wood and charcoal fire and it will come out blackened but won't have caught fire itself. To actually make nomex catch you need a decently long contact time with something hotter, in the range from jet fuel to red hot metal.

    I got a pair of winter boots bought in 00s, they were serviced a couple of times and obviously don't look like new, but like any old boot they fit well and I still wear them. Just leather, thick wool felt, cork and some rubber. The thing with "eco-friendly" shoes made with cheap and low quality materials - they don't last and thus have much worse impact on environment. Real eco-friendly things are serviceable and made to be used for years.

    • @ajjdgj6tmgedvnmtmek
      @ajjdgj6tmgedvnmtmek 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In any cemented boot or shoe construction, the designers basically don't worry about longevity because they cannot effectively be resoled. They're intended to be worn through and tossed. This is as true of Timberland boots as it is of Uggs. The eco-friendly argument is kind of stupid because the real issue isn't with the products going into landfills but the landfills themselves. There's tons of better ways to deal with waste than throwing it in a pit and ignoring it.

    I picked up a pair of Ugg Boot Stoneman's - They were used but barely and were missing one insole - I picked them up for $69, I believe the sell for $269 so I figured I couldn't miss. They're advertised as being water proof and the leather is very thick.
    The reason I picked them up is because I love the classic Ugg boot and have been wearing them since 1986 and only on my second pair - I'm really into the "barefoot shoe" movement and was looking for something I could wear in cold snowy wet weather - My plan is to bring them to a shoe guy and have him slice the foam sole so it's one thickness (zero rise) and have a vibram rubber sole glued on....
    The Stoneman may be the perfect cold weather barefoot boot out there....

    About commitment for one or another solution for sustainability... I'm with you, very often it's more to please as many people as possible. But also, we know only after a while if a choice is really eco-friendly and sustainable. Using grocery bags made of cloth, for example, seems a good idea, since when you finally throw them away, they will decompose way faster than plastic. But, it takes a lot more resources to make them: water, land, etc. To the point you would need to reuse a bag more than 5000 times to compensate for that. And the list is long.
    So yeah, we need commitment, but we also need options.

    You were talking about rip stop fabric. Rip Stop is a weave construction that’s actually a modified plain weave. It’s initial use was in sail cloth and in military fabric that required it’s properties of toughness. It can be poorly constructed by having a low thread count in the warp of the fabric plus the same in the filling or weft direction. In regards to Lycocell, it’s a rayon yarn that’s primarily made from pine. Rayon and acetate are both semi-synthetic fibers. I say semi-synthetic because both are made from a plant based cellulose material versus other synthetic fibers that are hydrocarbon based material such as nylon and polyester. Rayon was the first man made fiber with its origins going back to the very late 1800’s but primarily got its real start around 1910. Rayon can be produced from any cellulose material such as cotton linters or bamboo. What’s important is the amount of pure cellulose available verses impurities such as hemi-cellulose. I don’t see where Lycocell has any properties that would improve thermal protection in a boot. There’s nothing wrong with this fiber, just a wrong application in this instance. I hope you find this useful.
    Before I forget, I’m a big fan and I try to watch all your boot videos. I most often watch you on TH-cam over my Fire TV. I had to use my iPhone to send you this message as I can’t do it over my TV.

    Sad to see how bad these are in function. I love the look and would have been willing to deal with the mediocre leather and wool if the galoshes had been a tougher rubber with good grip and the boots had been properly water resistant.

    After 40 years I’m only on my second pair of original Australian ugg boots. I would not place the American Decker (made in China) version in the same league as the original Australian Ugg boots. Decker is forcing Australian ugg boot manufacturer’s out of business by suing them for the using the word Ugg, which is a generic term in Australia for a sheepskin boots.
    Maybe you should do a review on a real ugg boot?

    I don't take any words for granted on companies trying to be eco friendly. And i'm pretty sure using leather rather than using purely synthetic and chemically more dangerous materials is a much better option for the enviroment.

    • @garethbaus5471

      Leather production can actually be an extremely environmentaly damaging process. A synthetic material often can be the more environmentaly friendly option especially if you are comparing to a chrome tanned leather

      Oh you mean killing some animals?
      I'd like to hear your reasoning on how materials synthetically manufactured in a plant, is less damaging to the environment than killing and skinning an animal, and salting and drying, then stripping hide on a rack.

    • @garethbaus5471
      @garethbaus5471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@robert9595 I was talking about chrome tanned leather, the most commonly used process. Brain tanning is comparativly labor intensive and doesn't produce as durable of a product.

    • @thomascalderon598
      @thomascalderon598 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also, most leather (specifically cow) comes from slaugtherhouses. While yes chrome tanning process has toxic chemicals in their manufacturing, synthetic uses much more just to create an imitation of leather and it is not biodegradeable so it will not preserve well and cannot be fixed once time passes.
