I seen a fake one for sale locally and at first glance it looked like the a G-7900 and I was so close to making an offer on it but as I looked closer I noticed that the date below the time was missing. I found this unusual so I did some more research for G-shock models that look like the 7900 but dont have the date under the time like the real one. I found this video and I am so glad I did. It pays off to do that extra bit of research. The guy is also looking for €35 for his fake one and it's used. Not worth it at all. Thanks.

It's fun to fool around with; it's much less real; the screws on the front are fake, there's no light, just something that glows (a little) in the dark. The alarm is a tinny tiny joke but it's extremely lightweight. It's more orange than red, but I don't care. I also have a real one, which is much heavier & not as much fun & cost me about $100. I prefer the fake, because it's a knockaround where I don't care overly what happens to it, but I like opening it up to change the battery.
The fake one actually looks pretty close to the real solar version except Casio only made it in black as far as I know. It's obvious if you can test it but otherwise if you just saw an ad or pictures, most people would never know.
the back of the case of the fake does not look the same as the original, so I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, because the engraving is much cleaner on the original then the fake!

I was thinking all through this video that the copy is VERY good and (notwithstanding the functionality) without the side-by-side comparison it would be pretty hard to pick the fake.
It seems pretty weird to me that the Japanese made one was the fake since Casio is a Japanese company. I know they manufacture in many countries, but there are G-Shock watches made in Japan.

G shock's are made in Japan, Thailand and China. The best quality ones are made in Japan, being that's where the home base company is and it's where they make the guts. The other countries only make the bands and the back plate.

The fake is not a fake g7900. It's a fake GW7900 it's supposed to be a tough solar model.
