    Nick,
What I really appreciate here was the idea of taking that breath, and deciding to define the moment as the outcome you desired, and living in that outcome, rather than getting hysterical and emotionallly worried about what "could have" happened (before knowing what actually happened.)
By staying in that I believe positively in the outcome I want/expect mind set, you provided emotional strength to your wife, stability and calmness to your son when you saw him, rather than a frantic meet up, (which could have set him further off in a scary moment, ie, like that parental gasp when a preschool or toddler child falls, which causes them to cry and question what should be hurting, when without the parental gasp, they would have gotten back up, brushed themselves off, and gotten back into play) and, I am assuming, the quiet peace your leadership brought to the school community in a time of turmoil.
I am thinking now of times where I became frantic in my worry of "what ifs" rather than having this kind of mind set, and see how that
"what if this happens, how awful will it be" mind set did not help any situation, where a positive outcome belief attitude would have. Also, I can see that if a negative outcome would have happened in said circumstance, there would have been time to deal with it then, at that moment, by only burdening myself with it, rather than everyone around me I shared my fear with. IF it happened, deal with the negative ramifications when you know there will be negative ramifications, rather than the entire time, thinking it might happen.
This is a lot to chew on. I think I need to make some changes. Thank you for sharing. Great example, and so happy your children are OK.

I can hold on to hope but I think I'm too much of a realist to believe in a positive outcome that might not materialize . What's more interesting is how kids can go to school everyday knowing that they might be killed and how their parents allow it . Kids are not soldiers going off to war and shouldn't be made to assume the same burden . Unfortunately most people probably can't afford to homeschool or lack the teaching skills but it makes a good case for those who can .

I dont know I like ted but this seems meh I mean we are chemically wired with emotions to enable us to make the best decision to survive or continue the human race yes this has become more complex with the evolution of mankind but lets be honest without those emotions we would become instinct I dont think its a bad thing to be scared or whatever emotion your are feeling I think your body learns and reacts and trys to predict based of previous emotions.

Emotions are not there to make the best decisions, they're there to be commonly-applicable modifiers due to accidental success from their decisions. They're responses and configurations from millennia of evolution in the wild, while our modern sensibilities of civilization as we might call them are pretty recent in the grand scheme of things (and oftentimes are no less just responses and configurations, given we still can't all agree on stuff). Fear can have its uses, yes, but it has many cases where it's more harmful than not, and that's why being able to control it is extremely important, just like with rage or any other such state of high emotional arousal. Letting your emotions run wild historically and presently tends to get you into more bad situations.

You COMPLETELY missed the point... This isn't about just 'being positive' after a horrible experience, his point is to realise the mindset you are in as a result of that experience. You can either let it define you, or it can set a foundation for a path to healing. He didn't say his positive thoughts did the miracle, he said that his positive thoughts game him an anchor to prevent himself from letting the negative mindset define him. You might want to listen again. Best regards.

A lot of these are, pretty sad to where we have come in shaping society. There is a channel that shows court hearings that go bad or have some disruption that they make videos from, and there were a couple I watched, and there is so much wrong with what is recorded that looks very "surreal"(unreal), that I am not sure if any but a few, and very unstable mental occurrences have actually taken place.

@@philindeblanchave you considered that perhaps your sources spread blatant propaganda? You think whole towns are in on this? Whole families that include people from other states or even countries? Mass killings are uncommon but not as common as you want them to be because you fear potential gun restriction implications, so you either have to reevaluate your stance there or deny mass killings. It’s called being biased, my friend. Rather than considering gun restrictions maybe emphasize with the victims or actually track the cases. Lots of publicly available footage, including stuff afterwards involving court rooms, interrogations, the families, people from the cities, etc. Next time something like this happens go on snapchat in the area and see what actual citizens are posting because it supports the occurrence of a mass killing
