Miku is overrated
Well, she's my favorite, but I can explain to you both why she is, and why she is the most popular.
Waaaaaaaaaay back in the day your choices for listening to vocaloid were very limited. You had Lola, Leon, Miriam, KAITO (who ironically enough sold so poorly he was actually considered a commercial failure), and MEIKO, in Vocaloid 1, and only Sweet Ann in vocaloid 2. Considering you couldn't even understand the Engloids that basically just left you with KAITO and MEIKO. As blasphemous as it sounds, their V1 voices were not great, especially considering nobody really knew the ins and outs of the program back then (MEIKO's V1 is RIDICULOUS hard to tune and at that point nobody was invested enough to really learn.) After that Miku came along. And so, Miku became the best choice for understandability, had a sweet voice, and she also had a cute character design to boot. The way the vocaloid program works, especially back then, it has difficulty producing more mature tones (hence why we get so many cutesy vocaloids), and so two more high-pitched young voices came out; Rin and Len...now their Act 1 in my opinion, and the opinion of many others at the time, didn't quite stack up against Miku, and so she remained at her spot at the top. When Gakupo came out it drew more attention to the program, and even more came along with the release of Luka. The production of new vocaloids rose as the program's fame did (still in large part thanks to Miku), but there was a catch; when you went to buy a vocaloid, they were _always_ packaged with the program; a program that added cost onto a vociebank that was already expensive to begin with. People like me, who started this fandom back when Miku was the best option, were mostly teenagers who didn't have that much money easily available, so when the time came we went with her since she already had a special place in our hearts. Therefor new producers popped up to write and cover songs with her. Old producers that already had her continued to write with just her instead of shelling out more cash for these new voicebanks (you really don't make much money as a producer, ESPECIALLY way back in the day when there were only a handful of fans). Because of this Miku continued to have the most attention, and so she became the definitive face of vocaloid.
Now these days there are _plenty_ of choices and the more mature sounding voices work pretty well with Vocaloid 4 (and to an extent 3 as well), but you still have people like me who were with it from the very beginning. To us Miku holds a special place in our hearts, not only because of her voice (and I think we can all face it, there are much better sounding voices out there now), but because of the love we've poured into her over the last 7 (nearly 8 now) years. Some of those songs that were upbeat and cheerful, or even those that were sad and sympathetic, helped to lift our spirits during difficult times. People who faced complete isolation, be it from school bullies, a rocky home life, or those with chronic illnesses like myself always had...well, sort of a companion out there getting new songs every day. Something that was 'alive' (because of the aforementioned new songs) that was there with us no matter what. At home on our computers, or on the go on our relatively new iPods. Now, this may be one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard in my life...I mean when you think about it we're seeking approval from a singing robot, and I'll admit that's pretty sad, but hey. In this world you need to take what you can get! But anyway, people like me are the ones that keep the Miku hype alive. If you're active in the vocaloid fandom, then you'll find that almost all of the newcomers first discovered vocaloid through Miku, but that she is by no stretch of the imagination their favorite. I feel I should also mention that her voice is easy to manipulate and therefore sounds COMPLETELY different in the hands of different producers, and so her voice can be tuned to your liking quite easily (listen to a Mitchie-M song and a Pinocchio-P song back-to-back and you'll see what I mean).
TL;DR, Miku has so much hype because of nostalgia-filled people like me.
P.S. It isn't nice to pick a fight with someone you don't know and may not even encounter ever again, and if you've fooled yourself into thinking you weren't trying to pick a fight then I should tell you that someone saying 'I love this' and then you randomly jumping on just to say 'That thing is overrated' out of the blue like that? That's pretty much the definition of trying to pick a fight. Not trying to say you don't have a right to your opinion or anything, like I said, it's hard to say with any honesty that she's the best option, but other people have the right to their opinion too and there isn't any reason for you to try and argue with them on that. After all, we're just here to sit back, and listen to the wonderful sounds of a pissed-off Meiji.
It's just sad that nowadays with so many vocaloids newcomers only see miku.

kyashinu Well, you don't _only_ see Miku. Less and less people are writing new songs with her actually. It's mostly the big-name ones that get a lot of air time that use her, but if you take a genuine look around NND and even youtube you'll find that a lot of wonderful and undiscovered producers are writing original songs that are just as amazing ~^^~

I don't think this is just about a "tsundere", infact I think its about depression & pushing people/help away and trying to isolate yourself in mental illness.
In her case she has feelings for/is in a relationship with someone trying to support her through it and a lot of these lyrics are her talking about how she angry she feels over the fact she hasn't been given up on by them & left to her own devices & suicidal ideations.
"I just want to die already, so I can finally be at ease."
I guess it might be hard for people who haven't experienced it to understand, but the height of my (untreated) depression was a lot like this. I was so miserable, I wanted the world to give up on me & let me go and the thought of being happy and not just empty/miserable actually made me angry & disgusted, I actively didn't even want to feel better & tried to (angrily) shut out what positive feelings I felt.
I'm in a much better place now of course, but if you're feeling this please try and reach out, I didn't know what I was experiencing was depression, I just thought I was right and finally saw life for what it "really is" (not true, WHATSOEVER!!) Other people cannot fix it for you, but support is whats necessary to recover & become stable, even if you don't want it at the moment, let it into your life and you won't regret it.
So....it seems to me like this song is about a girl who likes a guy and he likes her but she hates the fact of it, so she convinces herself that she hates him? Basically Super-Tsundere.

It's not rare for a UTAUloid to sound of higher quality/better than a Vocaloid.
I'm kinda new to utaloids - i never got into them because i would mostly find those that sound like teto (more robotic then vocaloids) and they just came off as really displeasing :/ but i really like meiji
Puddi Kat Sometimes they don't sound very good, like Teto, because is made for beginner UTAU users. It also depends on the quality of the recordings, and how the user tunes and mixes the vocal. Sometimes is sounds amazing, like this cover, or it doesn't sound all that great.
DoctorMMD i usually think utaloids sound bad compared to vocaloid -anyways i have never heard a vocaloid song as good as this and this utaloid has some other songs that i personally think sound just as amazing. I know quality can vary from use to user but i guess the point im making is that i feel like this utaloid has more potential then vocaloids are sounding more emotional, smooth, and realistic? //shrug

Yes, I'm certain this is a UTAU. Konuko (the person who made this cover) does wonderful work using UTAU. No matter what voicebank I've seen them use, it always turned out amazing. I suggest you check out some of their other covers. (Searching 'Konuko UTAU' should bring up some of their other covers that have been reprinted to youtube.)

Aneko Hatsune not really. It's always depending. For example, vcv sounds way smoother than cv. Also the effort put in the voicebank can make a a great difference, but what's most important is the tuning and mixing. Anyways, what I wanted to say: Not every utau sounds like a human xD
I must say, that she needs a bra.... NAHHH just kidding, this is one of the most amazing covers i've ever seen with UTAU, so realistic, so amazing, the image is great, it has a very great adaptation, i wish i could do covers like this one.
I personally like this version better than the original. I think this is my favorite version!

I had this song stuck in my head the other day. When I was trying to figure out what it was, I started to single out what it wasn't. I thought: "It's not a song by a Vocaloid or Utau; the vocals are too realistic."
When I got a chance to listen to some music and try to figure out what song I had in my head I thought:

Because in the end she says Something like "whenever you smile these heartbeats of mine double In speed" which definatly means she likes him (I guess it could mean when he smiles it scares her and causes her heart to beat fast but that doesn't make sense) yes maybe she isn't exactly a yandere but that's the closest I can get to what she is. She loves him yet wants to gouge his eyes out, that's a pretty yandere thing to do. There are sometimes it seems she hates the fact that she loves him but other times it seems like she's just a yandere, a little confusing. I see what you're saying though, I guess since its a confusing song everyone will have different opinions xD ^_^

OK she doesn't sound that realistic, you probably expected her to sound like shit because of her Utau status and was pleasantly surprised by how well she was used, however if you look at other covers of this song by a Vocaloid there really is no comparison they are better. She still sounds very mechanical and her vocals are very grainy in comparison to Len IA or even a well tuned Miku. In any case, I think this highlights my issues with this fandom, too much credit is given to the voice banks and not the actual artist which is why you see dumb fights of which synthesized voice is the best synthesized voice instead of comments on tuning, rhythm, note accuracy or dynamics.

Yeah, it's quite sad how people fail to realize that the only reason this cover (as well as the other covers that have "realistic UTAUs") sound so good is because they're all tuned by Konuko :0 (Konuko's tuning is really pretty imo) But yeah.. If all of their covers were tuned by someone else, the UTAUs wouldn't sound half as realistic as they do now. Most of the credit should go to the person who tuned the vocals. Tbh it has very little to do with the voicebank itself yeah XD

Like, I was listening to my playlist yesterday, and suddenly this song and about 50 others from different uploaders and artists were blocked because it "contained content from some fucking company"? blazzen1990 Yeah, it was. Most Vocaloid producers didn't want to sign agreements with TH-cam because of the fact that you can now download videos if you've got TH-camRed. Producers don't like thinking that their work can be downloaded and redistributed, so there were a lot of people who wouldn't sign, so their videos were blocked out of country.
I'm not sure what's happened with it; whether the policy changed or people signed on, but I can watch most of them again now as well.
