Pope Pius XII once said that Barth was the most important Christian thinker since Thomas Aquinas, and upon hearing about this, Barth quipped: this just proves papal infallibility.
Amazing! I've never seen video of Barth before, and only once heard his voice on a 15 minute mp3 clip. Thanks for the upload. He has had a huge influence me, and is a big inspiration...
With rare courage Karl Barth refused to take his oath of allegiance to Hitler and had to appear before a corrupt Nazi judge who forbade him to teach theology in Germany. Karl returned to his native Switzerland. His 1922 book *The Epistle to the Romans* rang like a bell throughout war-ravaged Europe calling back the people to worship. Pope Pius XII said Barth was the most important theologian since Thomas Aquinas !
Barth says here that God reveals himself in the world (not just in the Bible) But when people attempt to spot God in the world they can mistakenly think they see God in phenomena like Hitler! So be careful! We can see where God is unambiguously in the world by looking to Jesus Christ.
I'm not entirely sure, but is he talking about having a personal relationship with Christ? Like praying and talking and seeking Him constantly? That would be a kind of "revelation" beyond the Bible.
there's specific revelation, which is revelation to the prophets and found in the Bible. and then there's generic revelation, which is found in nature. we can look at nature and know the god exists by studying it. thats the revelation outside of the Bible
Nicholas Gilson, hello. Sorry for my English. According Barth, bible isn't ultimate God's word (or revelation), but Jesus. New Testament is the reliable testimony of the witnesses of Jesus on earth (I read this in another site). So, looking at real God's word (that is, at Jesus), you won't see false Christs as Hitler. He left liberal theology and back to bible, but in a new way, I don't know very well. Greetings from Peru.
@@alfonsochincaro2 The bible is the means by which God is revealed, the means by which God speaks to us and presents itself as Lord in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. He denies general revelation such as natural theology or specific revelation such as the bible only if they are conducted without considering the primacy of the act of Revelation in which the Revealer is Revealed in the Revealedness. The act ( Son) is the same as the subject( Father) and the effect ( HS). He is rejecting those theologians who understood the bible through their contemporary context. He wants to develop a new church dogmatics whose assertions are atemporal. This is, Christ is the Revelation of God now and forever.
I agree, his theology is dangerous. He believes Jesus Christ was the elect and the reprobate for all humanity. The above comments praising him like he was some theological giant after Aquinas, makes me sick. It would make Aquinas sick what Barth believed. Personally he is a disqualified minister, he had his bed defiled, was sexually immoral, he had no right to teach anyone anything.
Cornelius Van Til understood this man's theology and the danger to historic biblical Christianity, particularly the Christian's view of written revelation. Barth recognised the battle grounds of biblical studies, but decided to decidedly construct a new response that avoided much of the academic and biblical confrontation. Read Van Til, and don't be afraid or intimidated by the opposition to the biblical record. Present day attitudes and research won't have the final say. Prima scriptura.

Kevin Ganey, :)
I thought the quote was "this just proves papal fallibility" or "this just disproves papal infallibility"
For that would seem more like Barth ;)
he is my great grandfather

A brilliant and wonderful man .
Is it just me or is Karl Barth not only brilliant but also utterly adorable and humorous?
❤❤❤
And we heard his son, Marcus Barth deliver a sermon on a trio to Switzerland
Hierdie is die beste video op TH-cam! Ek kan dit oor en oor en oor luister!
Prys die Here!
Could you share the transcription of this video please?
SAINT Karl Barth, please pray for me, a sinner...
Pray to God and God alone
This is fascinating and incredibly encouraging. Jesus Christ, the final revelation and final "Yes (Ja!)" from God to mankind.
Yeah, and its a false gospel. Barth is one of the people Jesus warned against.
@@metapolitikgedanken612 lol, bro...
Mt Alps in the realm of theology, Karl Barth!

What are you talking about? Read the first chapter of the Gospel of John.
Thank you.

Any help?

Barth was most famous for saying that there is no another truth behind the back of God…he was so Right
My late father Alexander HAVADTOY’s doctoral professor. He even saved him from being sent back to communist Romania to die as a theological scholar

He’s saying, that for us, the only reliable revelation is in the Bible.

Endika Martinez, thanks.
Wise humor
do all swiss german speakers sound like Scottish people speaking German? haha
Kort maar krachtig - als je na een leven van theologiseren je geloof zó kunt samenvatten. En zijn waarschuwing is ook nog steeds actueel.
Most people don´t recognise how destructive this theology can be ... still...a great mind...
Please elaborate... I also think something is not quite right but just can't put my finger on it yet 😅
He is universalist
