- Freight Train is an essential tune for breaking into the world of fingerstyle guitar, so why not for banjo too? If you already play fingerstyle guitar, have a decent grip the technique, this video is for you! Today I want to walk you through how all the finger-picking habits you've formed over the years can translate over to the 5-string banjo, and get you running down that old freight train in no time.

The banjo is so fun to play and probably the most healing instrument for the player.
I fully agree!
@@kostringworks Now that I know you can clawhammer, I have a request. You should do Reuben’s Train clawhammer guitar in open D! That would be awesome!
As a banjo player this is one of the best intro to banjo lessons I’ve come across! Well done! ❤🪕
Hey thanks bud! Was a fun one to work up!
I would love a claw hammer series!! You make such great videos.
Wow, what a gift. I have an (almost) free banjo gathering dust in my closet. I’m not overly interested in 3 finger so this was a refreshing inspiration. Thanks Kyle!
Thank you, Kyle!
I may have to cruise a few favored pawn shops this afternoon and see if I can find a decent banjo at a fair price.
Great lesson, and I'd be interested in exploring the other fingerpicking styles down the road.
Also great is that the Mule Resonator is currently tuned to open G...
Be good to you!
🙏🏻🤍
Great video. I’m a 3 finger player myself, but the version of “ Freight Train” is great. Have been interested in clawhammer, and hope you can do a video on the topic. Thanks
Clawhammer series would be great! Really like your videos :)
That’s really cool young dude. Now. To find a cheap 5 string to fool with! 🤔
5 string open G. “Keef” tuning!
Thanks for posting! Question for you -- I know you play three finger with guitar, why two finger here? I heard an interview with Wade Mainer where (if I recall) he said when he was a kid he was told to switch from 3 to 2 finger so he could keep up with the band at a country dance...
No reason other than I got into “two-finger” banjo at some point tunes. It’s an idiom all its own and three fingers would just muck it up. I like using it as a cross over to the banjo for fingerstyle players too since lots of them use just two fingers anyhow. Hope that clears it up!
