Haha, I live in the north of Sweden and when I say the north, I mean the north! North of the northern arctic circle, you haven’t seen a real winter until you experience one up here! 😂🙈 Frozen lakes, frozen rivers, snow covered forests, northern lights, reindeers, the cold, the dark and the beautiful sunshine in the end of winter when spring arrives 😍 May sound biased, but nothing is as breathtaking as a cold winter day in the north 😌

    • @Monkeh516
      @Monkeh516 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I can say that Jämtland-Härjedalen is different, frozen rivers, frozen lakes, frozen roads, pitch black with no northern lights and rarely any good ones. 2018 and 2021 are both exceptions

It's not really all-day darkness, it's just dark for a very long time when the days are the shortest.
It's mostly around December and January that it really gets seriously dark, and it's only in northern Sweden that you get the all-day darkness.
But on the flip side it's also seriously bright during the summers.
And the rest of the year is basically a gradual shift from brightness to darkness and from darkness to brightness.

Becaus of the lack of sun the bigger part of the year we all get some what of a lack of vitamin d this time of year. Actually mostly all need to add it to their diet this time of year. Sesonal depression might occur and other nasty things as well with the lack of sun.

I just can't help but to giggle at winter in Stockholm. I live in Piteå and we've had -20 to -30 consistantly for about a month now and there is so much snow now it's covering half the windows on the bottom floor on many houses. We have real trouble finding places to put the snow in the suburban areas as well right now. It's really another dimension of winter up here.

As a Swede living in London (hint: we barely see minus degrees of enough snow to dust the ground. Ever.) I actually miss these types of winter. Colder, definitely, but that's nothing good clothes can't fix. In Swedish we say "det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder" ("there's no bad weather, only bad clothing") and I do agree with that. You can definitely enjoy snowy, cold winters. I also really like ice skating, especially if you have the freedom of space on a large expanse of frozen water rather than the restricted space on an ice rink. With enough people, that isn't enough space.

  • @HenryHenderson0

Yo! Fellow American living here in Stockholm as well, coming up on my 2nd year. For me the hardest part has been the more subtle effect the winter has on you here. I find myself lacking the motivation I normally have to work on hobbies and side projects, or just getting myself out of the apartment to do something. Taking Vitamin-D pills daily actually helped with that quite a bit. You definitely have to take care of yourself during the wintertime here! I'm so excited for summer again, though. :D

Hey! I come from the northern part of Sweden, and then I do not mean Umeå but really high up in Sweden. Up here we have proper winter and fun winter activities. If you don't already know we can see the Northern Lights quite often up here. In the spring around Easter we go out with snowmobiles on some lake and ice fish and socialize. You can also go dog sledding or why not visit the world's first ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. During the summer we have midnight sun up here. Hope you have the opportunity sometime to visit northern Sweden (Kiruna).

There are different climates in different parts of Sweden, so saying "swedish winter" is oversimplified.
For instance, here in the west we don't get much snow and it's a bit warmer than in Stockholm, so winter is a lot of rain. We had only one week with snow so far this winter.
The north is much colder and lots more snow.

Canadian winters are colder but their winters have biting humidity in Sweden. Sweden shares the same brutal winter humidity and cold on par with Prince Rupert, British Columbia or worse yet Toronto, Ontario. Edmonton, Alberta is much colder but due to only 40% humidity and massive air that's slow moving, it's quite pleasant.

Dude. Love your videos and as a fellow American in Sweden I make sure to support. Just have to point out that the US is ENORMOUS and the Swedish winter, at least here in Stockholm isn’t that bad comparatively to lots of places I lived in back home. I even took 40 Swedes to NYC one December and some literally cried when we got out of the airport because of how cold it was. Keep up the videos but please remember that you have a very specific experience where you’re from that doesn’t reflect the entire country.

Also: Ice cleats and a kicksled. Lifesaving when it's cold and slippery.

We had an unusual amount of cold days where I live (about 186 miles north of Stockholm) this winter, but maybe that was to be expected after this incredibly hot summer! I'm not a huge fan of winter, but I also don't want it to be as hot as it was last summer, but it was still better than the summer prior when I had to go to America to get some decent weather (and also to see some relatives)! ;)

I often walk by that lake you were walking by in the end. It's called "Trekanten" and it's close to Liljeholmen, right? If you are there often so wouldn't I be to suprised if I ever see you. Good video by the way.
