If you want to be a deer recovery drone pilot or are just looking for a thermal drone, get your DJI Mavic 3T or Matrice 30T at... thermalhunting.com/collections/thermal-drones Tell them Savage Tactical Recon sent you!
That was a good breakdown! I agree that each application has its own variables. I live in the northeast USA so weather can change quickly, although somewhat predictable. Thanks for your research! It did help!
I own and fly the M30T primarily for SAR aswell as game recovery. I cannot stress enough how important the IP55 rating and the wind resistance is. I had friends that own the M3T talking trash about how unnessecary the M30T is. For them the added features are not worth the extra $. But when they had to recover game in bad weather they quickly changed their mind and had to land. Then they called me for the M30T.
Still depends where you’re at and the weather in that region. If you’ve got wet winters or do a lot of year round pet recovery, or SAR where lives depend on it, the M30T makes sense. In Alabama where we’re at, we’ve got plenty of successful M3T deer recovery pilots, and a few that have the M30T. Some of us also assist with local manhunts with the M3T.
Great video! Thanks so much. I understand you are perfectly happy with the Mavic 3T. But question: if you were starting all over from scratch... with the new pricing mentioned, and with you rating both as a 62 on your DA... would you still lean toward the Mavic 3T?
Good question, honestly, I’d probably have to revisit the DA first and see if the scores were all the same with additional experience under my belt. It’s still a much larger investment and way less portable/hideable in my transportation. And for me, most m30t users I know will use their m3t unless they absolutely need the m30t. So for me, I’d still likely start with the M3T.
@@STRThermal First off I want to thank you for your channel and let you know how helpful your evaluations have been! I've been an Inspire/Mavic/AIR pilot for nearly years and have added the M3T last week for thermal SAR capabilities. The Inspire 2 is also something I pull out only when I absolutely need to, similar to the M30T scenario you mentioned above. However in longer flight scenarios where I'm filming all day, the ability to swap batteries in the controller is crucial. What do you use to charge your M3T controller while you're flying?
I use the same battery bank that I power my monitor with. It’s rare I’ve gone over 3 hrs and needed it. But if I have multiple jobs in a night or a human SAR scenario, it’s good to have a charging method outside of charging in the car.
@@STRThermal Thanks for the fast response. I just discovered that the Mavic AIR 2s batteries will also charge the M3T controller via the dual USB A attatchment that comes with the FlyMore Combo. Plus they fit in my pockets and keep my hands warm ;-)
Excellent Video... This video really helped ease my mind for my purchase, I had bought the 3T for pet/drone recovery and I am pleased with my purchase. I am like you, I won't be flying in the rain and I also will not be flying in extremely cold weather where I live.
I had only seen anyone use the CZI which is why I included it specifically. Personally, I’d prefer all light and no speaker like the JZ offers. Thanks!
I know it's been a year, but since you mentioned national geographic quality drones for photography and videography, what are the models of drones that they would use? Thanks in advance
Tbh I’m not sure as I don’t get into that level of drone or cinematography(I.e. out of my budget lol), but I suspect things from the Inspire 3 and up to bigger custom octocopters.
How about m2ea compared to m3t for this purpose? I got the m2ea for the same reason you did, with the thought of maybe upgrading. It seems to be ok for this purpose. Only things I feel it’s lacking is the ability for the spotlight to point straight down and also the thermal settings not allowing to have a temp range.
I had a M2E Dual for a short time, but I don't have first-hand experience with the M2EA. But from my little research, the thermal resolution is the same resolution 640x512 radiometric sensor, but the zoom capability, Pilot 2 app interface, and other features make for a better usage experience on the M3T. When I was looking at the M3T, the M2EA were still higher priced at certain retailers so it was a no-brainer for me. That said, I suspect if you found a great deal, I'm sure the M2EA would get it done.

The JZ T60S light/speaker combo with the sam specs is half the price.

Awsome video on comparing then
Glad you think so!
Price of the M30T dropped significantly since you made that video.
I covered the Sept. 2023 price ($13,999->$9600) change at 18:30. Has it come down further since then? Thanks.
Great information, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
nice!
Ill trade you my drift car for a thermal drone. I want to do deer recovery this a legit message. I dont want to drift im getting of cars kinda
