My players once exiled someone to Carceri's fifth layer, Porphatys. His task to get out was to gather 100 peoples from that layer and lead them to the fourth, where he needed to gather 200 more, doubling for each layer, all the way out of the plane. If any died en route, he need to get back and find two replacement for every loss. He, nor any of those gathered, couldn't demand ANY form of payment, AND display one more virtue at every layer. Those demands also apply, but to a lesser extent, to those he need to save. Starting virtue : Generosity. Second virtue : Truthfulness. If he ever manage to escape, he'll be a prime candidate to become a paladin of good and order.
Sounds like he’ll fit right in on Carceri. That is, he will have given up all hope on leaving and stopped trying lol. It’d be insane if he ever got out.
@@Genghis_Sean I stated that anyone imprisoned there MUST have a way to get out, some task that, if accomplished, enable the poor sod to get out. So, my players got inspired with the Greek mythology and got creative, added their own twist. Their goal was absolutely to give him some impossible task to accomplish. The powers will die of old age before he even get half way.
I completely agree. Every comment helps with the algorithm. Ultimately we need to do our part so that the man can grow the channel. Thank you for your support 🙏
Because you hearted my comment I'll say one more thing. I saw your recent community post about lack of motivation and I understand completely. But just know that out of all the D&D channels I follow, from giants like XP to Level 3 & Jorphdan to AJ Pickett and Dungeon Dad you are without any doubt my favorite and I would genuinely be very sad if you felt that you became to disillusioned to keep making your videos. I watch every single one and their quality is unrivalled if you ask me. One billion AI-generated slopfests couldn't match a minute from your videos. You're freaking great man, I really hope you keep up for a long time :)
Great video man, glad you are back at it. You are becoming one of the best D&D lore channels on the platform, though I am biased. You rock dude, keep it up.
Carceri gets overlooked a lot in my experience. Such a neat plane though! Do you plan on doing a video on the demodands? Edit: I hadn't watched the video when commenting this. Oops!
I think the Demodands were an issue in the initial Planescape books. They were kind of bland and weirdly hard to come up with plots for. I much prefer the pathfinder rewrite
YOOOOO one of my favorite adventures I've ever run was in Carceri. I was using 2e Planescape content converted into 5e (I mean as best as I could, still no idea how THAC0 works lol), the party had to go to Colothys to find a guy who'd gotten sent there by accident, ended up taking a whole town of petitioners off the plane by carrying them in their bags of holding lmao. Long story short they somehow won the favor of Grolantor and got him to fist fight a Titan, kaiju style, so they could escape out a portal in the titans temple. I don't even remember if they actually saved they guy they were supposed to save lmao. I'm running the 5e Planescape stuff now, bringing back their old characters, and they just left the town they set up in the Outlands to house the petitioners they broke out, brought up some real fun memories. 10/10 would send adventures to the Tartarian depths again lol
THAC0 is subtract AC and roll higher, so it you subtract 20 from a THACO and make the number positive, you get the equivalent +bonus. Monsters had a slightly wacky chart that effectively started at +1 at 1HD, with a further +2 at every odd number numbered HD thereafter. It was never made clear why. Given that old stuff didn’t have stat bonuses, you might be able to use it fairly directly. Strictly speaking, it’s the proficiency bonus that’s weird in how it relates to levels.
I want to send my planescape players here to bust out a prisoner and see how they handle these crazy environments. Like, they go to Agathys, the maximum security plane, and have to jailbreak some lost god or titan or something!
Damn, I hate missing stuff. I never came across it in my research. I see it’s in the 3.5 Monster Manual 3 which makes sense, as I only checked the manual of the planes from that edition.
I think the reason they use powers is because there are some beings (like demon lords) that aren’t gods, but they still wanted a word to show they had power over an area. That, and I believe a lot of wordage in Planescape was used because of the satanic panic, so they might have wanted to distance themselves from the word “god”.
Part of the reason for the disrespect is that the gods in Planescape only give a fig about their harvest worlds, reacting to most others as if they were invading bugs. A realms character interacting with Pelor is described as weirdly underwhelming considering he has a sun shining out from under his beard. When prayers are openly spat back in your face and they can be dealt with like giant magical children, your respect dwindles, usually broken by spending enough time in Sigil to see a deity get evicted. Remember also, the guides and tastemakers of the setting are from Sigil, where the deities are reduced significantly.

Good job, Sean!
Man the imagination of these people was astounding!
It was a lot of great writers before Wizards of the Coast bought D&D
YEAH!!!, Our boy is back with more lore, boys!
One of the most underated channels on this site. Keep it up Genghis!

These guides are fantastic for all the plane-heads out there. Thank you!
Been waiting a long time for this. Thank you! 🫠
Hoping for a Pandemonioum video in the
future. One of the worst places of them all to be stranded on.
Can't believe they derived the word incarcerated from a DnD plane
🤣
just about perfect timing for in depth lore on a game I never played but is still fascinating in the lore
Another terrific video. I hope at some point viewers and the TH-cam algorithm give you the much higher view count that your videos clearly deserve.
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
Absolutely incredible, goated video. No other video has this amount of info regarding Carceri. Amazing!

Well alright alright.... GS is back at it👊
Legendary video. I've been running a campaign in carceri and was disappointed there was so little content on it.
Great video man, glad you are back at it. You are becoming one of the best D&D lore channels on the platform, though I am biased. You rock dude, keep it up.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you like my videos, that means a lot.
Absolutely awesome video as always bro. Thank you. 👏👏👏
Free my homie Nameless Primordial ✊😤
"Don't expect to be welcomed with open arms."
But, I'd absolutely expect to be welcomed with open armaments.
Glad you're back. 👍👍

Good job, I look forward to checking out your earlier videos.
Sweet! Thanks for putting up some sweet new ear candy!
I always enjoy your videos, thank you!
OMG I WAS HOPING YOU'D DROP A VID ABOUT THIS PLACE!
I wish there was MUCH more lore about this plane. It deserves way more attention.
New lore! ❤
Love your videos
Was scrolling along and had to go back when I swore I read "Cancer: DnD lore through editions" 😂
I really appreciated this video :)
I really appreciate you watching my video 😁 thank you!

Ah yes, the planal beads
😂
Great video
If anyone's interested in Crius's temple, it's detailed in Chapter V in Well of Worlds.
Thank you! It’s so hard to find every detail.
Big bad of my campaign is trapped in Colothys and escape is a big part of her agenda. One of my planned future dungeons is a raid on her castle.
Sounds like a fun campaign
woot!
The chains that bind
Not gonna lie. I wish it didn't take a month to make a video. Looking forward to watching and rewatching the crap out of this video.
I’m gonna try and be better about it. This time was a bit of an outlier cause of the holidays and me getting sick.
Great video, however ya missed one of Carceri best creatures, the Odopi.
Damn, I hate missing stuff. I never came across it in my research. I see it’s in the 3.5 Monster Manual 3 which makes sense, as I only checked the manual of the planes from that edition.
@ It’s a neat creature, I’m just heavily biased as the only one with an Odopi Tattoo. Either way highly informative video as always.
I write Planescape based Horror stories, and my most popular story, read by Dr. Creepen, takes place on Earth and Carceri.
Wasn't there a description of the Temple of Crius in the Well of the Worlds adventure book?
Ya someone pointed that out, I didn’t know about the adventure. Goes to show just how much lore this game has, it’s so hard to find every bit of it.
Guys will see a new Genghis video and just say, "Hell yeah."
uhhh lets fucking go?
37:59 But what about Rope and BOMBS?
Are you gonna talk about pandemonium next ?
At some point. It’s the last lower plane I haven’t done, so definitely soon.
Too bad mordern D&D will never touch this
To be entirely fair, 2024 DMG has very decent tidbits on the Planes. But they definitely won't make anything like Manual of Planes again
I think SBG had a base thats connected to 5th layer which froze in black ice binds tho years ago I read it
I never like the term "Powers" Since that's also a rank of Angel. It's kinda like they're scared to call them deities, the parents to mortal kind.
I think the reason they use powers is because there are some beings (like demon lords) that aren’t gods, but they still wanted a word to show they had power over an area. That, and I believe a lot of wordage in Planescape was used because of the satanic panic, so they might have wanted to distance themselves from the word “god”.

I'm gonna put Fomorians in there
15:08 You mean Demons and Daemons.
Yugoloth has become a standardized second name for Daemons because it's so similar to Demon.
talk more about the demodands hierarchy.
I’m doing them next 😁
