Rambo: First Blood is a 1982 American action film directed by Ted Kotcheff, and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, who also stars as Vietnam War veteran John Rambo. The first installment in the Rambo franchise, it co-stars Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. It's about a Vietnam veteran and drifter John J. Rambo who wanders into a small Washington town in search of an old friend, but is met with intolerance and brutality by the local sheriff. When the police restrain and shave Rambo, he flashes back to his time as a prisoner of war and unleashes his fury on the officers. He narrowly escapes the manhunt, but it will take his former commander to save the hunters from the hunted.

I know it's hard to believe, but that's not Stallone, it's actually Keith Apicary! It's easy to get them mixed up because Keith just has so much John Rambo energy that it's easy to mix them up!

It's my 2nd favorite. Ninja Gaiden is my favorite AVGN episode and Mr. Bucket is the best Board James episode.

My cousin told me that Nathan bore a striking resemblance to Keith Apicary. But I told him how silly that was, because Nathan looks nothing like Rambo!
I remember as a kid being confused and looking over to my dad and asking, " Aren't the cops suppose to be the good guys?"
My mom then looks at my dad and says, " I told you you shouldn't let him watch this!"
A good life lesson though lol.

Not even well versed on filming stuff, but I was already suspicious just with the look, but the framing with the space between them was also a hint (I think James has used it for some AVGN reviews, not even counting the Friday the 13th one)

The irony of this movie, in the movie, he kills the 1 sheriff by causing him to fall out of the helicopter, in the novel however...he kills EVERYONE!!!!!!!
i liked the novels story, but i thought it was written a bit too simple, almost like it was ment for kids to easily understand everything
Not to mention the Col. puts a 12 gauge to the back of rambo's head and blows his brains out.
Actually it was the pilot and the incompetence of the officer combined that killed him. Rambo just threw a rock at the stabilizer .

He knew he was a Vietnam vet. That’s a critical part of why the sherif doesn’t like him
I think each Rambo movie has something to offer the franchise, Rambo has had one hell of a story arc (franchise as a whole). That being said, one of the most heart felt moments in a Rambo movie, was when Rambo goes to visit the relative of one of his war buddies only to find out he is dead, so Rambo gives the relative a photo of him and the war buddy. I was never in the military but I can see that if you served with other soldiers, it is nice to reconnect with someone you knew from your past once you return to civilian life.
A classic and an amazing movie. I watched when I was 9 years old and watched dozens of times.

I found it hard to wrap my head around the fact that the kill count in this movie is 1
Brian Dennehy (the cop) was a Korean War vet. He had contempt for Rambo. Not shared in the movie but makes the story that much better. Love this movie!
"You don't just shut it off! All my friends that I hung out with at the war, are all dead now, and this sheriff is a jerk, and I was in the woods for a whole day! You're my only friend Trautman! "

I would guess that it was just for the plot of the show, so I don’t think they actually moved. He’s probably got a story that’s gonna fit into the “move” somehow in later episodes. There’s a reason for this anyway.

Stunts were incredible in that movie. One of my favorites is when the pursuing cop car flies off the road and lands on a fence, you hear that sharp honking of the horn. Subtle sound effect where you don't see what happens, but still know. One of those small things that bring authenticity. Cracks me up every single time. I still wonder if it was accidental or intended, or done in post.

Love it how at the beginning James makes us think that Keith Apicary was just edited last minute as an additional character that doesn't really interact with the other two since he was not obviously there simultaneously, just to later through the video blow us away at how all of them interact with each other.
Now that you're talking Stallone, maybe review the underrated CopLand at some point?

When Arnold made Conan the Barbarian, he actually fell down the steps in the cave at the beginning - it wasn't scripted. The side of his face is actually laid open in that scene. Him being new to the US & barely speaking english says "I'm bleeding..." to which Dino DeLaurentis responded "Yeah - just go with it." Arnold says again "but... but.... I'm BLEEDING." Dino says "Yeah, I know - it looks great!" =)
They just don't make movies like that anymore... which is both good & bad.

Yeah dude I really want to see it. I didn't have much faith in the last one till I watched it.I actually really enjoyed it tbh. That scene where he gets on that truck turret and is mowing all those dudes down did not disappoint.

Rambo was definitely the good guy...
If you consider a man who kills another one just for the sake of following orders, yeah... he's a 'super hero'... the cops are worse, but his is no 'good guy' at all...
I am sure they make you feel that way with the cop that dies being an asshole. However, there are no goodguys in this film. This is not that type of film.
That cop who died was wrong for being an asshole and trying to kill rambo before falling and dying. He is the only one who can be labeled "A badguy". But rambo was not right for his behavior. This is a movie about a vet from the brainwashed soldier 60's era that went nuts in a civilian surrounding.
None of the other officers chasing him were "badguys", even the one in charge. And Rambo was definitely not a goodguy in this situation. Regardless of how good it feels to see a guy beat up on cops who were being dicks.

The Sheriff is definitely the bad guy. He shows his prejudice right from the start. "We don't want guys like you in this town" if he said that to a gentleman of another race, would he be a "good guy"? The main deputy is a bad guy, he took pleasure in torturing and shooting at an unarmed Rambo.

He had to get the police station emptied out so that he could annihilate it, that was the only way. He didn't want to hurt anybody.
It's nevertheless the principle I know Rambo was pushed but Teasle was the only one he was after he could have just finished him in the woods he didn't have to blow up half the town after all not everyone has insurance

I loved the review but I think you left out that Stallone did a lot of his own stunts too.
Stallone did a bunch of the dangerous stuff you'd think the stuntman would have. You know when Rambo's on the cliff? When Rambo jumps off, it's a stuntman. When he's falling through the air, that's a stuntman. When he hits the fucking tree? That's Stallone! And he broke his ribs for his trouble.
November is coming up. You guys should totally review the original Blade Runner.

In the book the sheriff knew that Rambo was a Vietnam vet. The reason the sheriff gave Rambo a hard time was because the sheriff was a Korean War vet & felt that the Korean War meant nothing compared to the Vietnam war
