I'm nearing the end of my GA immersive course in about 3 weeks. I had one instructor and TA the whole course( A different TA for weekend help if anyone needs it). My cohort was a lot smaller than these ones. We started with around 15 students, and 3 of them have dropped. We did the python / django course for about two - three weeks. My biggest recommendation for them would be to just get rid of that and really work on solidifying the students full-stack knowledge using node and express. Other than that, I have no real complaints. I still think it's kinda pricey for a 3 month long course. My instructor was incredible though, insanely knowledgeable with just about everything and a great teacher. He's been with them for 7 years now so he's probably one of their most tenured. I would imagine most peoples experiences are highly based around the quality of their instructors. I agree the mid week outcomes feel like a very awkward insertion, but at the same time I do feel like I've gained useful knowledge from the meetings. I have already created a portfolio and started applying, and just had my first interview today.
I just finished GA’s Software Engineering Immersive on 2/4/22. My cohort was sponsored by a company with specific requirements. We did JavaScript, Java/Spring , and Angular/TypeScript. My three instructors were awesome. They never checked out or disengaged. I found the homework very helpful for both muscle-memory and depth. My cohort did touch on basic testing. I’d do it again, even if I had to pay for it myself.
Right now I'm planning to go to a bootcamp at the end of the month (App academy). My three options were General Assembly, Flatiron and App academy. Flatiron got discarded for me based on the fact that they removed the deferred tuition AND the interview you made with their students, seemed like they changed instructors too much. As for General assembly, I passed because of the 90% outcome response they gave me from 2019 and them not having more updated data. That was kind of a red flag. Plus the exercises to get accepted were middle school level. too easy. That left me with App academy, their acceptance prep work and challenges at least had some difficulty to them. Unlike the other two bootcamps, they focus only on coding and I contacted some students who graduated there and they agreed that should they go through it again, they would choose App academy again.
Hey @Leon. How's it going? Came upon your comment and wanted to ask some questions because I'm in the mix of choosing a bootcamp. I was planning on joining GA but reading your comment now it's making me want to do more research. Wanted to ask you how is/was App academy and are you doing online or in person? I would have to do it in person since I don't have the money right now to live near their locations. Thank you.
I'd be really thankful if you could do this for other coding bootcamps. I'm biased to see one for App Academy because that's the one I'm looking to apply to. Many thanks for doing these videos.
I started the GA SEI course 2 weeks ago, but I realized that I would be better off joining the next months program so I can have the time to self study myself before going in, as it is very fast paced.
Hey @Ishan, how's it going. Scrolling through comments of all bootcamps reviews and came upon yours. I'm trying to decide on which bootcamp to join. Wanted to ask you how's it going so far with general assembly? Thank you
@@whovion3967 Hey, yea i graduated in the middle of June, and now I am just on a job search for a junior dev role. It is going slow, as there are so many junior devs that are looking for jobs. Otherwise, yea the bootcamp was a good experience and has taught me strong fundamentals of web development.
@@ReBoRNxFuze Good to know. I hope you find a job soon. I just got a couple more questions. 1-How experienced were you before the camp? 2-I know you said the camp taught you the fundamentals well and I wanted to ask did it make you feel confident you can land a job after or did you study little more on you own before applying to jobs?. Now that I think of it, you graduated in June so I assume it prepared you pretty well. 3-Did you do online or in person and if you did online how was it? Thank you so much.

Every bootcamp should have a 2-4 week intro class. At the end they should ask, did you enjoy this. Do you look forward to programming. Do you think about it everyday and look forward to doing it after work or family duties. No? Okay this is not for you. Try something else.
Hey Don. Love your reviews! My 2 options for bootcamps are GA or AA. Could you please do a new review on AA. Since I've done their enrolling challenges and etc... Only need to sign a contract. Just waiting for you're new review :)
From what I heard compared against to what is provided , the course is overpriced! Maybe it would be better to pay a private tutor who works in the role years and it would cost less .
Thnking about applying to the GA bootcamp in early august. How was the environment of online courses? Ive been through 4 years of college and 4 years of graduate school in a different field. Never had an online curriculum. Is it easier/harder to work with others since its online? Just worried about the social/interactive aspect of an online course. Any information I would appreciate. thanks!
I’m joining the August cohort as well, I was advised to not work a FT job untill after the program. But each individual has their needs. Best of luck!!
I was interviewing with them recently (like 2 or 3 weeks ago) and when I asked about their outcome reports, they said they had 90% BUT they did not have an updated report. They only had it for 2019 and I don't remember if they had it for 2020, I think not
At least they were upfront when you asked them. I hope they're upfront about that in all of their marketing materials around that %. Either way, thanks for sharing.
@@DonTheDeveloper yeah, but when I talked to the admissions director he said their placement rate was OVER 90% I don’t remember the exact number. But in reports they didn’t have anything because of the Pandemic
