12-16-18, Kapper Outdoors homestead. After going back and watching the original video, I was terribly disappointed at the video quality (I still had a lot to learn about making good videos) so I went back and made a remix in FULL HD and made a few modifications. This was late 2016 and although we got the gravel all down, roughly 400 tons, we woke up to the new house having standing water on the interior floor! What a nightmare build this was! Watch some dump truck wheelies, some stuck tail gates, the gravel pouring over the top of the gate and more in this one. I felt bad for these drivers because they had been laid off for a couple of years now and were called in just for this job to get our road done, and the trucks looked (and performed) like they had been sitting for a couple of years! exactly! Seems that a lot of people just don't get the reasoning and technique!! Thank you, have a good one
That was truly amazing! You never get that close to little kits and thanks for not touching them😀
Building is an adventure in enduring stress! Drivers were having fits with the delivery for certain. Cheers and than you for the repeat.
LOL I can laugh now looking back 2 years! But it sure was stressful back then!
A lot of loads of gravel. Nice to see a retro video 👍
Thanks. I stumbled on the original video of this and the quality sucked! Back then I was saving them in lower quality, shame on me, so I just had to re do this one.
he put too much stone against the tail gatel...tailgate latch was under too much pressure to release. or if it did all of a sudden pop open the latch may have needed to be tightened. but the bed was too high from the start on some of these spread jobs....just my 2 cents
Well this whole crew was either retired or hadn't been working because they were laid off from the economy a couple years ago so they did pretty decent for being Rusty. Thanks
I like the old one's
Yeah the old ones are okay but it's hard for me to watch the crappy quality LOL
@@kapperoutdoors that is true
U sure were up against it there 🤔 an finished job looks great, have to admit to laughing my head off at the first trucks attempts 😂😂 ty for sharing 😊
Thanks, yeah it was quite a rough start for sure. Neither of those guys had driven truck for a long time, plus the trucks were rusted shut! lol but they got it done!
Kap, I remember these videos from way back. When we built our home, mother nature flooded the flooring and we too had Advantech as the floor base. The builders drilled holes through the floor base to allow water to drain so the floor could dry. Yep, very disheartening but that was a tad over 8 years ago and all is well. Thanks for this video. Nothing like memory lane, huh? Have a good one and thumbs up 👍.
Thanks man, yeah I can laugh now looking back, but oh boy, the stress!
Looks like truck need to work on truck maintenance
I remember these videos, everything turned out okay!
Yeah but it's a gentle reminder of how challenging it was :-)
they are raising their bed too high and jamming the tailgate . you raise the bed till you here the gravel shift .then take off and open the tailgate.
nice stuff were from the sub of chicago i was glad to bust out of il if we had a set up like this id still be there how may ac are you guys on
Kapper you crack me up first video you’re at a loss of words...were you worried the truck was going to wheelie? We had it happen 45 years ago.
LOL, maybe I just didn't have my pot of coffee yet!!!
that stone will end up all going into the clay and be lost money when it rains hard and it gets wet it will be a bog again
This video was from years ago. Why do you think that? That driveway held up well. Kapper has showed it many times in his videos. It turned out great.
Yep, Freedom Fighterz has it right. We've had no problems with our gravel pad and driveway. The driveway is almost 2.5 years now on it. No breaker run stone (Big $$$ saved) No felt/plastic liner (BIGGER $$ saved), and a much better product. COMPACTION and shape/runoff are more important than anything.
@@kapperoutdoors your right Kapper. Some people just like to talk things down. I own several parcels of land and had to put in driveways on each. I put down some pit run and then road gravel. Both very cheap products. Held up great on heavy clay. If I was as good as your are with a backblade they would be smooth... Lol
I hate to say it but this drivers are not good at tailgating gravel 😂
Well they were all doing other jobs and had not driven trucks for awhile so they were not dump truck drivers by trade, so I have to cut them some slack. Thanks
The good old days.
Did the rock come from over by Starved Rock? I know there's a big pit over there. George K4geo
No we have a big quarry right near here.
He (dump truck driver) should have known better.Always watch your mirrors when spreading gravel.
And NEVER tailgate going down hill!
I like what you are doing there. However, you really had some bad truck drivers. Gravel should never come over the top of the tailgate.
yeah it was a little rough getting that gravel down but in the end we got the mission accomplished before the next rain, thanks
These dump truck companies need to work on their equipment
Kap, have you ever heard of using oyster shell? I don't know if it is available up where you live. I'm originally from Lousiana and oyster shell is used a lot down there as it is readily available. It gradually breaks down as vehicles drive over it but it eventually gets as hard as Supermans Kneecaps. My father used to use it over the top of what the parish puts over driveway culverts. It seemed to wash away less than the "pea gravel" used by the parish.
Pretty sure that's not available in this area but sounds kind of interesting
Oh my God , always remember to hire somebody that actually has spreading experience.....
The guy spreading in this video has no experience........
Well, we were in a bind to get the dang gravel down in between crazy rain storms that spring. So the guys were called on emergency and haven't been drivers much at all. But it did work out in the end, we got the stone down before the next big rain!
Man those guys are pretty rough... or nervous about the camera maybe? Idk lol but hope they gave you a good deal. Yikes
It ain't no fantasy anymore
No it ain't! And neither will a 'clean, organized' pole barn be come Monday either@!!! :)
@@kapperoutdoors you got that right I'm going to be so jealous
