    I love Nigel's point about how he uses an asian accent because it's funnier but his content is very pro-Asian and lifts Asian culture up. Whereas there may be a few (not all of course) asian comedians who use a western accent but their jokes actually are painting Asian culture as embarrassing. A very astute observation.

    • @malloryg4251
      @malloryg4251 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yes, I actually noticed that as a fan of Uncle Roger. As a white American, I try to be very sensitive to people from other cultures, and I don't like jokes that put people down or promote negative stereotypes. Nigel clearly takes pride in who he is and does not make a mockery of Asian people in order to make white people laugh or feel comfortable. It's very refreshing to see! And I feel as though I'm being educated as well.

    I think on the other perspective, us Malaysia had been “Asian-ise” western food for years! In the 90s we don’t see authentic Italian French cuisine but now these kind of restaurants are every where. I think westernise Asian food or asian-ise western food serve like an introduction of a culture but eventually people wants to try the real thing and learn deeper into each other.

      So accurate. I went to Asia a few times and Spanish food is so adapted there. It's nothing like the real thing in some restaurants. But some people make it look like only western countries adapt other countries food. It's false.
      Glad that more people around the world can try the real food from different countries.

    Uncle Roger does something that I will always respect him for: Bringing down chefs a peg and making people realize that chefs don't belong on a pedestal. Just because a celebrity chef makes fried rice for example, doesn't mean that it will always taste great or even be authentic enough to be called 'Asian' cuisine.

    • @beanfactory_youtube
      @beanfactory_youtube 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He should point out too how they fvck up western food in Asian countries though. He makes it look like only western countries fvck up other’s cuisines. For god’s sake, in the UK what they sell many times as Spanish food is not authentic at all.

Japanese/Korean/China convenience stores and restaurants literally everywhere. You have plenty of Japanese, Korean, Mainlander and HK'er staying in Malaysia right now. You can mine some vids on why they prefer to live in Malaysia as oppose to other more well known countries. Now Malaysia has open border status as long as you are vaccinated.

    This was a great interview done to show the real side of pursuing your passion. I've heard more times from many, MANY people doing TH-cam full-time don't make the most of their money from this platform. It's from everything else that *COMES* from their TH-cam- whether it be sponsorships, merch, or whatever else.
    I agree with Nigel because I've heard from many comics either during their own shows or podcasts or interviews that their jokes *will* offend at least one person listening. It is part of the job. I forgot which comedian I was listening to or watching but they said that comedy is supposed to blur that line and joke about things that many people do not often talk about.
    Uncle Roger/Nigel has mentioned on David So's podcast that he was canceled a few times and he came back and grew from it. For Nigel, he took being "canceled" as an opportunity to learn and grow from it. And honestly, not many YTers in this day and age that got canceled really got canceled. If one truly is canceled and goes away for good, they f*cked up pretty bad for *everyone* to stop entertaining them.
    -----
    There have been videos I've agreed with on this channel, *and* Uncle Roger's channel and there are videos that I don't agree with on this channel and his. I think it's normal. Just because you are a fan of a creator or Hollywood celebrity, you don't have to be a fan of everything that they have done. That's the same with politics, you don't have to agree with everything on one particular side. There are things on both sides that can be agreed upon by anyone and everyone. There's not a one-size-fits-all formula and many of us think that way nowaways. I love the work that Asian Boss brings forward. Yes, there are things people have said that piss me off and things others say that I simply love. Same with Uncle Roger skits that I love and others that I don't love so much.

    Love Asian Boss. Loved this interview. Great too Nigel clarify the 'Asian' reference in Britian. It is different from the US style. As the wife of a Japanese man, I can relate to the food references even as being part Jamaican and Indian lot a of places mess up the national food.
    Loved seeing Nigel on his recent UK tour. Can't wait to see him again.
    Keep it up. 👏👏👏

    When I think of Malaysia:
    1) Michelle Yeoh (duh)
    2) Petronas Towers (as a 90s kid, it used to be the world's tallest tower for some time)
    3) "Malaysia Truly Asia" jingle rings in my head
    4 to 10) Uhh... They're all food. Rendang, char kway teow, satay, etc.

    Love Asian Boss; love Uncle Roger. When Nigel said a comedian needs to be controversial I was reminded of Jeff Dunham and Achmed on his performance in--ironically--Malaysia. Jeff was told by the Ministry of Culture that he was free to perform, but under no circumstances was he to bring Achmed on stage--and not to even mention his name. No controversy! To which he later replied that he was a comedian--he HAS to be controversial.

    Just one thing to add, in my observation while travelling, I have noticed that maybe most chefs adjust the taste according to the country or locality it serves. Like for example, in the middle east, mostly Chinese food are also served in Indian restaurants. It taste sort of Indian style as there are loads of Indians there. But again, there are also authentic Chinese restaurants but not easy to find. Like in London, loads of Chinese restaurant but the taste and food presentation have been adjusted to Brits maybe? as they won't differentiate the taste too. In my humble opinion, For example, You can rarely find a non Chinese chef that can really cook proper authentic Chinese food. So as with other cuisines.

    • @birdyashiro1226
      @birdyashiro1226 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the Chinese food you found taste like sweet and sour, or peppery beef,that is 'adjusted'. Because there are only few spots in China make sweet n sour fish/pork, it's even rare for the household dishes for the majorities

    46:26 What a great point. Too add on that, cancel culture is ultimately about anger, contempt, and vitriol, which is so much more accessible to the general population, but to truly entertain people, to connect to them on a authentic level.. it takes time, effort, and hard work.. why do that when judging people without considering context or nuance is so much easier.

    I could never get tired of Uncle Roger! I think Nigel is very clever and funny. And it was brilliant to think of using cooking videos as the fodder for the humor.
    As for the accent, I actually think the accent mitigates the "insult factor" of the humor. For example, saying "Use the right amount, not the white amount," would be offensive if said without the accent. It would be taken more literally rather than comically.
