      Last Crusade has a lot of contradictions like that. They hide in a fireplace to escape from fire. "X never never marks the spot", and yet it does. "They don't get any closer than that!", and yet they do. Donovan says "don't trust anybody", but trusting Elsa is what does him in. Colonel Vogel falls over a cliff and dies; "Vogel" is German for "bird"--ergo the bird couldn't fly.

    i never noticed that the first time "dad" is proud of "junior" is when indy grabs the flag post and then out jousts the machine gun wielding motorcycle nazi. Connery's character is such a medievalphile it made him proud, and is an allusion to the end when the knight calls Indy a knight and questions his weapons

      Indy gets confused when the Grail Knight calls him a knight as well, but honestly there’s a ton of times where he becomes a knight in this film. The joust, saving his dad from a castle, slaying the “steel beast”. I’d say he’s a bona-fide knight by the end of the movie

      Raiders probably has the best directed action sequences, but I agree it probably is the most straight forward and generically '1940s adventure serial' of the Indy series, mainly because that was the kinda feel they were going for. Temple of Doom I think is the weakest of the original 3 but it is by far the most atmospheric, scary and just plain intense and THAT makes it brilliant all the same. The Last Crusade has always been my fave: the characters are wonderful, its tremendously funny and smart, great action and its got a lot of sentiment and heart. Its one of my favourite films, but they're all frigging phenomenal.

    LMFAO this whole trilogy is so much fun and i love how there's total chaos happening throughout. The action scenes are so well done and you're excited and laughing at the same time. That Indy is intelligent and capable but at times things happen for him through sheer luck and his/others stupidity e.g. him accidentally knocking his leg off the mechanism several times in the fireplace scene.

  • @Ben-pd2bx
    @Ben-pd2bx ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The chase scene is really fascinating to watch with the knowledge that it was done in reshoots. Harrison's hair is longer, and Connery's beard is fake. We also see the fake beard again in close up when Connery delivers his "I just wasn't ready, Marcus" dialogue after the tank goes over the cliff later in the movie. I presume they shot this additional dialogue on the same day as the motorcycle chase. Another interesting detail is that the chase begins and ends with two different takes of the exact same shot. At 3:07 Indy rounds a bend, looks back and laughs, only to receive a disapproving look from his father. The same exact staging occurs in the same location at 5:02.

    It's great to see this scene again and now, with a critical eye and curiosity, we can notice an Easter egg that was hidden right below our eyes, when Indiana Jones turns on the boat's engine and lets it depart on its own, an arm of someone that was already hidden underneath appears. of the tarpaulin that was inside him and surreptitiously leading him away.

    This one video sums up the bag of emotions that came with this movie, from comedic to serious to heartfelt. How they outran the Nazis made me laugh. How Henry Sr. talks about the quest for the grail gave me chills. And how they talk about this obsession tearing their family apart plucked at my heartstrings. This was a perfect movie for me.

    I remember seeing this when I was a kid and thinking "Holy fuck how did they do THAT!" with the motorcycle scene... I realize now its a combo of quick clever editing, practical effects, one of those hydraulic rams Hollywood uses for car stunts, a bag of flour, a dummy and well done sound design.... But still that effect blows me away.

    Funny story: Long ago, when I was about eight or nine (I'm twenty-three now), my grandmother's neighbor had a dog named Brody (he was a big fella but gentle with kids; I can't remember now what breed he was). One day, Brody got out of his house and took off running. My brother and sister and I chased after him, and every time we would catch sight of him, one of us would say, "Brody's this way!" since we all grew up with the original "Indiana Jones" movies just like our mom and dad had. And yes, we did eventually catch Brody.
