Ripping CDs with ABCDE

- ABCDE is "A better CD encoder". In this video I got over a tool that I like to use a lot for ripping CDs. I don't really go down the rabbit hole in this program but hopefully this will make the software seem more approachable.

Just getting ready to rip my CD with better quality than my mid 2000s iTunes using self, but everything I was seeing were people using freemium proprietary windows apps. The moment I say you open the command line with your custom prompt I knew I was in the right place. Appreciate the quick overview. You got me what I needed and for anything else I can always read the manpage 😂
Thanks man, this is way easier to use than what I imagined. I just moved from Windows to Linux. I had to use Ashampoo to rip CDs, in Kubuntu I can just drag and drop (lol) but I don't want the hassle of managing the metadata by hand.
This is bringing back memories of EAC with LAME encoder. It had some special feature with plex drives to recover audio from really scratched cds.
EAC's speciality is ignoring the error corrections of the drive's firmware. It's still the best ripper which still has no native Linux alternative.
Found your channel recently so I've been flicking through the back catalogue. Comment doesn't related to ABCDE (though I do use it to rip my stuff to flac and ogg) but to something you mentioned at the end... Working in a cinema... Me too. Fun job.

GREAT VIDEO ARTHUR!!! KEEP UP LIKE DIS!!! :)
Does this still work? MusicBrainz looks to have updated the api and it doesn't seem to work for me
So DvD drives can be used for CD ripping? I'm 19 this is all before my time but i want to learn cuz I've been collecting cds 😂
Yup! In fact the newer drives often do a better job. 🤘
Interesting, I have never heard of the opus format! I still have a few music cds that I have been meaning to rip for ages! better do it while I still have a cd/dvd player in my laptop
Do yourself a favour though & rip to FLAC instead of Opus. Ripping to a lossy format for archiving purposes is wasted time in this day and age in which harddrives are cheap enough to store music in lossless formats.
Bit of a clunky way of doing it.
