Low Percent stuff is often so fun, just because of how weird the strategies get, & I love that! Thanks so much for uploading! Might comment more later!
I love that NOT glitching to get the Space Jump Boots is considered "skipping" them, lol! I always grabbed them early back on the Gamecube version so I feel the same way, admittedly.
Thanks for watching, please give a like if you enjoyed the essay, it helps promote the vid! Quick update, the Artifacts DO count towards completion on the mission complete screen. Ty to Icefire for pointing that out
Sorry, but I gotta be honest. I needed a little more detail on how the tricks work, I didn't understand enough to be impressed by the players skills and ingenuity. Love the game and it's an interesting subject, but I just didn't get what they were doing. Maybe I'm spoiled by guys like Salt, who even explains the bus frame analogy every time. I'm sure it's fine for those more in the know.
Dr. Swell with the Metroid content! You love to see it. I've been playing Prime 1 and 2 randomizers casually, and I can't help but feel I would benefit from learning a few speedrunning tricks.
Ive personally made it to whats considered the hardest rooms in both Prime 1 and 2 without the SJB. Geothermal core for plasma in Prime 1, and Vault for Screw Attack in Prime 2. I consider Prime 2 significantly more difficult if for even just 1 room... polluted mire.
3:54 Important to note that the IBJ up Suntower was the way you had to do it because there was no back into Flaahgra's boss chamber without Spider Ball (although maybe there's a wallcrawl now that I don't knowabout. 4:50 The ghetto jump for Lifegiver is tough. It's been a long time but I think even *with* Space Jump it's tricky without Gravity Suit. 6:15 Cannot overemphasize how tough the Vent Shaft bomb jump is. Doing it for 22% is one of my prouder achievements, after hours of attempts, and to make it worse it's believed to be easier *with* Space Jump. 21% must be awful. 6:33 I remember when the bomb jump *off the pirate head* was uncovered. Nutty. For those of you who think this is insane, know that the old way to get through Geothermal Core to the Plasma Beam, for 22%, is also crazy demanding - a series of relatively minor tricks (including manipulating a spinner without Boost Ball lol) culminating in a long, curved combat dash into a 1-frame midair instant morph into a bomb slot to raise the ceiling. 7:25 The video glosses over this a bit, but getting the X-Ray Visor and the same artifact in that room can be tricky. I'm not sure what the OOB route is like, but the old route demanded a tricky manipulation of the spinner to free the artifact (worse than Geo Core's spinner), another tricky bomb jump off a rock to get to the tunnel, and a prayer that you don't screw up the bomb jump in the tunnel and fall into the half-pipe. 9:10 Not spelled out in the video (but common knowledge to any Prime runners really) - Omega Pirate is the only reason that X-Ray Visor is required to beat the game. For some reason, the game does not register damage against OP unless the X-Ray Visor is equipped. Also, really neat strat for OP in low % is pool manipulation. Basically, when teleporting between the three pools, OP will never appear in the same pool twice in a row and will never tp to the pool closest to Samus. The strat then, is to move to the pool you want OP to appear at, lay a power bomb, roll away to the third pool forcing him into the explosion (hopefully getting the timing right to maximize damage), unmorph, equip X-Ray for the damage to trigger, and repeat. Correction on the video though (maybe): Shouldn't Varialess for 20% still be impossible for two reasons? 1) Even with TAS, isn't a trip through Magmoor impossible with no energy tanks? 2) Can you even get Artifact of Wild if Flaahgra hasn't been defeated? There's allot of tricks I couldn't comment on but I'm sure the avalanche of "do tricky bomb jump here" in the latter of the half of the video is testament to how difficult this category is. I've only managed 23% (plus Space Jump and Boost Ball - old 22% strat for Geo Core killed my run), and 21% is absolutely insane to me.
yeah, I Just checked Wikitroid and unless the remastered version throws in some super crazy Secret world to skip Magmoor... you need Varia. as for Flaahgra, I'm guessing there could be some crazy way to clip out of the room and skip collecting Varia after beat Flaahgra? that or some way to set the event flag for the Artifact to appear without being the boss.
Low percentage Prime speed runs are the gaming equivalent of the Salty Spitoon. I have mad props as I have neither to patience nor the time to learn all the skills for low % runs
Ive beaten hard mode with no energy tanks and only 5 missiles (omega pirate was pretty difficult and took several tries, but prime was the hardest and took 20+ attempts. Ive also done no space jump up to geothermal core for plasma but thats as far as I got. In Prime 2 I got to Vault for screw attack without space jump but that was as far as that playthrough lasted.
11:58 you said since you didn't have the charge beam so it affected the timing or something of the phazon beam? But that doesn't make any sense. You can't charge the phazon beam in the first place so what difference would it make?
Charge beam is what allows the Phazon beam to "autofire". If you don't have Charge beam, then you need to press A over and over again for it to constantly fire.
Your comment makes me wanna go up to some drunk chick at a bar and just start sayin' the same sh't from this video. Then when it becomes obvious that she's not interested I'll ask her "so are we gonna fckk at my place or yours?" 🦬
You know the speed running community is interesting..... Putting SOOOOOO much effort into NOT playing as much of a game as possible. Gotta say though.... Glitch utilizing speedruns AKA almost all of the 'best' speedruns just don't sit right with me. If you are breaking the game, can you really tell me you're PLAYING it? I know that lots of these speedruns are very mechanically challenging, even so, I have far more respect for speedrunners who keep themselves within the bounds of the game the Developers originally intended. Playing the same game as everyone else, show me how much better you are. Vastly prefer 100% speedruns which are imo true gauntlets.

So crazy how in any% it sequence breaks by immediately getting space jump. Low% doesn't ever get it.
Crazy
i cant imagine beating Meta Ridley with NO EXTRA ENERGY TANKS!! holy shit, that is amazing.
I did it on a no energy tank challenge... final boss is REALLY hard though
That bomb jump off the flying space pirate's head is fucking nuts lol

I said ayo wtf loudly like 10 times watching this
Instead of getting space jump early, just don't get it at all. Crazy
Bomb jumping off of a jetpack pirate's head is bonkers

Great vid, Doc! Love this new format
I could never get the timing right for ibj
really liked the video, pretty mindblown exspecially because i usualy only watch ur any% :3
I feel like I called it. Good stuff

Whoa whoa, wait a sec .
You can skip from the frigate to talon like that?
This is insane.
Why is the phazon suit required?
Is it because the Artifact of Newborn?
You can't use the Phazon Beam without the Phazon Suit, which is needed to beat Metroid Prime's final form
@DoctorSwellman Oh Yeah!
I guess Samus just didn't like those boots, they probably could've looked more stylish in her defense.
Omfg that's f*cking insane!

Mind-blowing
You should do a video on how the speed run community found most pf those skips
Ok but was the line about parrying the flying pirates missiles a joke or not
has anyone done a no hit run?
PogChungus
why is xray required? for the Metroid prime battle?
You can’t damage Omega Pirate without the xray visor, and the Phazon Suit gives the Phazon Beam for the final boss
@@DoctorSwellman ah right thanks

I legit thought this was the remaster
you guys were soooo close to being glitchless
Well done, virgins.

TLDR: You can beat the game by using all manner of game breaking nonsense 😂
