      I fell for the score when I watched this woefully neglected movie. It is set in space for the most part but it is more a story of love, friendship, loyalty, and self-sacrifice. It is truly beautiful as is the wonderful score. I often listen to it when I am working.

    "I Ennio Morricone, dead. I announce it this way, to all the friends who have been close to me and also to those who are a little far away, whom I greet with great affection. Impossible to name them all; Peppuccio, the sisters, the children, I hope they understand how much I loved them. But the last farewell, the most poignant, is to my great love Maria, my wife, companion of a lifetime. I renew to you the extraordinary love that has held us together and which I am sorry to abandon. To you the most painful farewell" - concludes the Master in his last note Ennio Morricone.

    My favorite score by Morricone. Someone has said it's overblown in places. It's truly not. It reflects what the movie should be dramatically and visually. I expect naysayers are averse to melody in film music.

      I remember I saw the movie in the theater. hated the movie, hated Morricone's score and was wondering why and how the Maestro could have failed that bad on a movie score... few months later, I became quite obsessed with this score, some of its "patterns" and some of the movie sequence. it's both one of the most experimental music composed by Morricone (he is, on several tracks, writing pure orchestral contemporary music - as effectively as Ligetti's music used in 2001 for example) and ALSO one of his most sentimental and moving scores - on par with what he once wrote for De Palma's "The Untouchables" - to enhance this pure friendship, with no vilains, story...
      it has become, with time, my favorite score of Morricone as well... and I have tears in my eyes everytime I listen to it. :'-).
      NB: I had the chance to attend a Morricone Masterclass at the Cinematheque in Paris, a couple of years before he died. At some point during the interview he said one of his regret was that he had always wanted to make a scifi soundtrack (the old maestro forgot about Mission2Mars ^^)... and was imagining using the organ to musically defy the lack of air in space. Not only he actually did it for De Palma's film (during the air-hole sequence, but there are many flutes and clarinet and trumpet used through the whole score as well, not mentionning the choir) but this particular track has certainly inspired one of the most famous and successful scifi movie in recent times: Interstellar.
      ---
      to conclude: there are movies that grows on you through time, M2M was definitely one of them... and it has become over the years, my favorite as well ! give Mission to Mars the chance to grow on you as well people! this movie and its soundtrack will bring you much joy, appeasement and empathy.

    Ciao Ennio. Ovunque tu possa essere, riposati. Veglia sulla tua famiglia. Aiuta nelle sue scelte i tuoi figli. Per quello che riguarda me, io posso solamente ringraziarti, per i meravigliosi anni della mia infanzia, adolescenza, e gioventù, durante i quali, ogni qual volta vedevo ( oppure rivedevo ), al cinema oppure alla televisione, dei film, tu, con i tuoi capolavori musicali mi hai fatto sognare, mi hai dato forza di coraggio e spirito. Non ti dimenticherò mai. Ora, sicuramente, ti trovi in un luogo speciale, per persone speciali come te. Sicuramente, tanto per non scordarlo, ti sarai ricongiunto con il tuo amico e compagno di infanzia, Sergio Leone. Che bella coppia siete stati. Voi due, senza volere, lavorando insieme, formate un binomio artistico unico. CIAO.

      Yeah, I love the CD regardless, but the Maestro didn't include my favorite cue. I'd call it the "journey" theme (first accompanies the first appearance of Mars Recovery in space, en route; heard again as the surviving recovery team is shown approaching Mars One base camp on foot).

    • @SubterrelProspector
      @SubterrelProspector 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@terencemccormick8178 same! It's my absolute favorite theme in the film and it's all but absent from the released score! Wtf? Did Ennio not think it was good enough to include? It's the "theme" of the film imo.

    • @jaywoelfel9228
      @jaywoelfel9228 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@SubterrelProspector The Editor of the film got into a fight with the director over the music for the "freezing to death in space" scene. Morricone was asked and rescored that sequence. The editor and director didn't speak for years afterwards over the dispute. So there'd be two versions of the music for that scene. When a movie bombs it's hard to get companies exciting about releasing soundtracks at all and anything recorded with Los Angeles musicians requires high reuse fees for album releases--so that tends to limit how much music gets put onto the releases. Also the more musicians you have on a piece of music the more it costs to include in on the album, so that probably effected what did and didn't go onto the original album release.

    Fantastic score 😁😎 just a pity that the film didn't have a bit more to it, would have at least liked to have seen a spacecraft landing or a bit more rocket stuff. Loved the design of the Mars 2 spacecraft, just always wondered what configuration it was meant to go into for the Mars landing itself had the fuel explosion no happened

    This is interesting. I strongly disliked this movie when I saw it in the theater 24 years ago. One of the things I disliked, or so I thought at the time, was the music. I decided to give it another try today at work, but only the score, to see if my opinion was the same. Turns out this is a LOVELY listen, and now one of my favorite Morricone scores. I think I just disliked how it was used in the film...the weird organ in space was a complete turnoff, from what I recall. But as a space symphony written as Ravel might have written it, the score is a great listen. I'm happy to be proved wrong.

    The movie is utter trash with a cringe factor of, say, 100. - But Morricone's soundtrack is marvellous, rich orchestrations and some very powerful effects. In the scene with the Martian I got goosebumps while watching - not because of the ludicrous on-screen display but because of the sheer force of the soundtrack.

      @@spenser9908 At 12 you may not have seen the many better films this one steals from. Which doesn't make your experience invalid, but for me all the poor/by comparison steals from other films were distracting to me. The director DePalma became well known for borrowing from other directors, mostly Hitchcock, at first some of his borrowings were kind of inspired but by the time he made this film, to me, he'd lost any sense of how to make a film really work. I'm not glad I hated the film, but I'm glad you love it.

    Reading the books of the New Testament, we probably asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
    The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.
    Find *"The Mystery about the Church of Christ"* video on TH-cam. The video reveals the prophecy of the disappearance and reappearance of the Church of Christ before the End of the World.
