I suspect they had Paul play the base on the recording because he was better.
The most underrated Beatles song in my opinion. The fact that it was a (far superior) cover and never appeared on an album has led to it being sadly forgotten except to those lucky enough to discover it on their own.

I own a 45 of "Ain't She Sweet" and the singer is John Lennon not Paul McCartney as the person who created this excellent video stated. The 45 disk clearly states: Vocal by John Lennon. I actually bought the disk in the mid-sixties at a Woolsworth store for 59 cents.

I still think it's a crying shame that this song never got a proper studio recording and place on a Beatles album. It would've fit in very nicely on the early ones for sure. Even if they'd only released it as a single, even a B-side. Most Beatles fans probably have never heard of this song, or had to dig deep to find it. But it deserves so much more recognition, if not only for how amazing the performance is, but for the significance to John's life (this is the song he played for Cynthia in art school which caused her to flee from the room in embarrassment, now how cute is that haha)
This was recorded during their second residency in Hamburg. Apparently they weren’t very happy with the finished result. It was a one take and George’s solo was thought-of on the spot (he didn’t like it very much). Also there is no bass drum. Their producer (Bert Kaempfert) took it away from Pete because he couldn’t keep time. This is all from the book Tune In by Mark Lewisohn. I HIGHLY recommend it

However he did hit her once but that was when they were dating, because he got jealous that another man wanted to dance with her, so he followed her to the ladies toilets, waited outside, when she came out he hit her across the face and she fell back and hit her heard on some pipes. She left him but went back to him 2 months later as he rang her one day and said that he wanted her back, said sorry and promised her he would never do it again which he didn't. hitting women is not good but at least he wasn't a woman beater. There were many questions I wanted to ask him about the very early days-esp. regarding his & his mum's role in keeping the fledgling group alive. Ringo was known as a top-notch drummer of the Scouser bands but the others, like Pete, were quite good. In the end, Ringo was picked because of the "image" issue.
Playing hours on end in clubs and pubs tightened them up musically, they slept in cold buildings in germany and honed their musical craft. Im glad Pete Best finally got some money in the mid 90s, and i wrote this to the tune above " oh aint that Pete, you see him walking down the street, he got a royalty check eventually, oh aint that Pete"

Nice job on this 50's style rock version of a classic. Words fit the music. Has an Eddie Cochran feel with that bass line.
