Welcome to Australia!! I moved here (Melbourne) about a year ago and don't see myself moving back to Europe anytime soon. Life is good here! Hope it treats you well, I'm sure it will! The weird birds and other animals still amaze me haha, and so does the traffic light sound
Moved to Sydney myself in 2022 from Texas. I fell in love with Melbourne and now have made Melbourne my permanent residence. I spent time in Perth, Adelaide, Queensland also before moving to Sydney but realised Melbourne is the place for me. I mean, ANYWHERE in Australia is great and makes Texas seem like a Dystopia, but yeah, Melbourne is just the best I think.
I’ll come out of my shell 🐚 soon !! In all seriousness it’s just a bit awkward filming myself, nothing to do with the locals 😊 everyone has been very nice

Sydney is clean because whilst you're still in bed street sweeper trucks are all over the city and suburbs. In the day time huge armies of cleaners are walking round picking up litter. In general Australians don't like throwing rubbish anywhere that suits them and there are huge fines if they catch people doing so. But of course some people will throw rubbish so if it wasn't for the huge army of cleaners it wouldn't take long for the rubbish to build up in the streets and parks. Most cleaning crews start work at 4am and finish at midday. Others on main roads only work at night from about 9pm to 5am due to traffic being much lighter. A lot of main roadworks are done at night for the same reason.
And it certainly pays off. There is an obvious pride in this cities cleanliness. I’m well aware it takes a lot of hard to keep such a massive city so clean 💚
@timsimsworld It's not just the big cities either Tim as I've driven through country towns early in the mornings like Parkes, Narrandera, Tocumwal and sweeper trucks and blokes with bags and pickers and others with blowers are cleaning the streets. Even here in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney in the autumn blokes with blowers blow autumn leaves from road gutters into the center of the road where sweeper trucks pick it all up. Sweeper trucks have water tanks in them so as they sweep up litter and dirt they spray a fine mist of water so there's no clouds of swirling dust. Take a look at Into the Wild Films The Blue Mountains and see if it's what you want to see. It goes for about 30minutes and is in 4K.
Enjoy Sydney, my hometown. Its a nice place but like everywhere has its negatives also. Many layers of history in the area at North Head, including some hate violence just a few decades ago, highlighted in a recent commission of inquiry.
The earth has a elliptical orbit and it is not a perfect circle so when the earth is closest to the sun this is when the Southern hemisphere summer period comes into being. This creates a more intense sun in summer. The Australian atmosphere is actually very clean allowing pure sunlight to come through for the first time to people from overseas, so the sun seems a lot brighter, which is true.
@timsimsworld backing up my comment - Earth's orbit - Earth's orbit around the sun is elliptical, and Earth is closest to the sun in January, which is called perihelion. Earth is farthest from the sun in July, (northern summer) which is called aphelion this explains why the Australian summer is more intense (December to February)
That chicken is what's called a brush, Turkey. What you passed was a female. Males have brighter red and yellow head and throat very chilled bird. Keep an eye out for their nests. They can be 3 meters diameter and a metre or so high packed up with leaf litter. Quite incredible, really. Very common and nimbers are increasing very fast.
The female brush turkey lays the eggs and then buggers off leaving the male to protect the eggs in the nest that he has built. The girls pick the fella with the biggest nest apparently. The chicks are independent as soon as they hatch.
Being a Muriel's Wedding fan, anyone calling themselves Tim Sims gets the thumbs-up from me 😅 Enjoy your time in Australia. As long as you're friendly and don't mind taking the mickey out of yourself, you'll have a great life here. P.S. Please don't just rely on sunscreen. Wear a broad-brimmed hat and a shirt with sleeves to reduce sun exposure. And yep, hydration is key! * Wags Nanna finger * 😆
You caught me! “I just made him up..!” 😆 Everyone I have met so far has been wonderful, I definitely don’t take myself seriously, try not too anyway haha and yes I’m learning so much about sun protection! I very rarely get burnt but this is a whole new level. I’ll get a proper hat and clothing in the coming days :) thanks for watching !!
@timsimsworld There in one other thing to consider, which is more important than distance from the sun. Sydney is about 34° S. In the Northern hemisphere, 34° N, is about Casablanca, Morocco. So think North Africa sun strength.
Please wear a hat with a broad brim that also shadows your ears as that's where most Aussie men get skin cancer due to sun exposure. The Australian sun is harsh because the 'bottom' of the world is closer to the sun due to the polar tilt. The hole in the ozone layer is mending and moving towards Antarctica. Every child in Australia is taught from an early age to slip, slop, slap, wrap, and shade. That means to slip on a well-covering shirt, slop on sunscreen (including the top of the ears!), slap on a hat with an all-around brim, wrap on sunglasses and seek shade. In educative institutions there is a 'no hat, no play' policy. Enjoy 'the land of sunshine and oranges' - the advertising that encouraged my parents to migrate here from the UK 73 years ago. It was the best decision that they ever made. Australia is a wonderful country ! Enjoy !
I will definitely get one of those hats! I’m seeing now how important it is 🙏☀️ thanks so much for the information on the ozone layer and government recommendations! I’m determined now to he fully protected 🚫🔆

The chances of someone yelling at you over something petty in Australia is pretty slim. Most people are reasonably well behaved. The reason the UV is so high and the sun so harsh isn't because of the hole in the ozone layer, that's actually over Antarctica not Australia it's a common misconception. The real reason is because the path of the Earth around the sun isn't a perfect circle, it's an ellipse. At the furthest point from the sun the Earth is tilted so that it's Summer in the northern hemisphere, and when it's at the closest point it's Summer in the southern hemisphere. This means the Earth is about 4,500,000 kilometres closer to the sun during Australia's Summer than it is during a northern hemisphere Summer. Add in lack of pollution blocking the sun's rays, lack of cloud cover, and other minor factors such as humidity, yes, the sun is extreme here during Summer.
I was exaggerating a tad regarding the yelling 😁 I know the people here are super civilised and lovely! Thanks a lot for the information on the UV rays. I’m going to address this on my next video 😊 thanks for watching !!

Hi Paul 😊 thank you for your concern! I was absolutely fine, not in the slightest bit burnt. I mentioned in the video I filmed this at around 7am and I actually stopped filming around 8:30am-9:00am. Just ditch the baseball cap (totally useless) for sun protection. Always carry a backpack with plenty of water containers and snacks, water that can be refilled for free.
