I chanced upon the 12-inch while in a department store in Kobe in the summer of 1985. Initially, I preferred Sakamoto's relatively dry mix (TYO). And the b-side (a snippet of which appears in the music video), is still brilliant.
Discovering this with 15 on German Radio, recording on Cassette, never knew the Name of Singer (i only remember he was from Japan) and after 38 Years finally found it!

I did not know this version yet. Great. Thank you very, very much.

well the singer is Thomas Dolby who is British . But its Originally on Ryuichis album
Ryuichi Sakamoto & Thomas Dolby first time I have heard this WOW what a combination
I remember finding this gem, pre You Tube. A 12". Remember them?
I saw two of my favorite artists together, and KNEW this would be worth a listen or 100!

Invokes feelings of nostalgia, even though I haven't heard it until now. Sounds like a vintage arcade game.
Absolutely love Thomas's work.
Same here, although, sadly, Sakamoto passed away.... 😢
What i have absorbed is that 80s JP videogame music was highly influenced by Sakamoto and Hosono.
I had no idea of such an unexpected mind-blowing duet. Thank you for sharing.

Good heavens, Mister Sakamoto?!

I'm just discovering Sakamoto more in deep, quite impressed of all that i'm founding
Same dude, Sakamoto seems to be hugely unappreciated for an artist who’s been producing amazing music for so long.

Field Work (London Mix) Lyrics
[Chorus]
Better brush up on my field work (Field work)
Gonna brush up on my field work (Field work)
Gonna get my fingers dirty
Better brush up on my field work
[Verse 1]
One thing I need
Is to understand this jungle
Before I can untangle
The part of me that's fungoid
Was a hundred and three
When the world was still a baby
But instinct's an equation
You could program in an android
[Chorus]
Brush up on my field work (Field work)
Better brush up on my field work (Field work)
Gonna get my fingers dirty
Gonna brush up on my field work
[Verse 2]
Somewhere inside
There's a place where we can travel
A code we could unscramble
A riddle to unravel
[Chorus]
Brush up on my field work (Field work)
Better brush up on my field work (Field work)
Gonna get my fingers dirty
Gonna brush up on my field work
[Verse 3]
Somewhere inside me
Are the caves of Iwo Jima
And the sands of Arizona
Better brush up on my field work
[Instrumental Bridge]
