By the end of the 1950s, Zora Arkus-Duntov and his team at GM were turning their attention to the creation of an entirely new generation of Chevrolet Corvette. This new, second-generation (C2) Corvette debuted in 1963 and featured radical new styling, penned by Larry Shinoda and Peter Brock, combined with a much-improved chassis. These C2 Corvettes have gone on to become among the most collectible Corvettes in history and one of the most sought-after subjects for upgrades and customization.
The example on offer is a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible custom built in 2019 by Jeff Hayes at American Speed Shop in Bloomington, Indiana. Starting with an original 1966 C2 convertible, Hayes replaced its standard engine with a 6.2L LS3 V-8 that produces 540 HP. This potent, modern power unit was then mated to a 4L70E automatic transmission and paired with Z06 suspension and brakes.
Finished in silver paint with custom red leather interior, this Corvette also boasts Vintage Air air conditioning, power steering, power hood, a custom Haartz cloth convertible top and chrome C6 Z06 wheels with Toyo custom Redline tires. A head-turning ’66 C2 Corvette convertible with all the poise and performance of a modern, late model Z06.
Good buy
Yeah sure, if you have deep pockets.
@@jsh3234 sounded like he had 700 into it. Build anything that nice for 200
@@king0cans No, the owner was not Jeff Hayes the builder. The owner was referring to a Jeff Hayes split coupe restomod that recently sold for over 700K. Jeff probably puts around 150K+ just in parts. Add on approximately 12 months of labor to complete a build like that and this buyer got one hell of a buy at only 215K. What sets Jeff's cars apart from other restomods is his custom paint and interiors. Probably has close to 100K if not more just in paint and interior work. I'm pretty well versed in the restomod market because I recently bought a 66 restomod done like Jeff's.
I like these shows, however they have WAY too many commercials! They take the enjoyment out of the show.
I agree, but I also record them to play back later to FF past the ads.
Yea, I record them the blow through the commercials. 3 hour presentation cut own to about 45 minutes.
I wish the announcers would stop calling Corvettes such as this “ convertible “. A convertible is an open-air car that seats more than two people. Corvettes are ROADSTERS!
I hope they post the 1937 Ford Custom 3-window!!
Too many changes to stock. Nice, but not collectible. Good luck getting your money back.
Does anybody watching this great auction know why Stephen Cox and Katie Osborne are not present with this auction? The hosts have made no mention of them thus far.
Yes, and they never introduce or talk about the two people, the lady and man who present the cars on the red carpet.
The Ultra Rich are spoiling the collector car HOBBY!!! They are mostly Investers and don"t have the passon that I do for these old cars that I recall when new in the late 50's and early 60's
Someone got the deal of a lifetime they practically stole that Corvette. They'll probably turn around and sell it for five hundred thousand dollars and make a pretty profit.
Way way Overpriced.
It’s worth whatever some one will pay for it.
@@dawnmathis2659 I would pay 60k. No more.
Can't stand the interior color
