I'm fascinated by all such things but I'm really struggling with why make ingots at all? If you are refining a metal thats one thing but just making bars has me baffled. I am trying to wrap up some home remodel so i can build a forge and start smithing. I'm not the brightest so please help me understand. Thanks.

Well the bar in not 99.99 pure it has indeed some other materials as well, but i made sure it's pure from Led atleast. Don't really have the chemicals needed to make it pure :(
Hey bud. You can improve your method in a few ways. Mold strength and parting capability. Get some parting powder. Any white powder will work. Get some plaster of paris. Home depot will do. Get some steel wool. Kitchen sink.... place the pattern down and put your "flask" box around it. Powder the "underside" of the pattern and lightly the bottom of the box area. Pour plaster of paris in until it just covers the pattern a little bit then put the steel wool in a layer. Fill the rest of the way with plaster. Let it sit preferably in somewhere warm or the sun. Then you'll have a mostly permanent mold that you can reuse for pretty cheap and the bars with come out looking way better requiring less finishing. Have a good day man
Thanks for the advice! Cant find plaster of paris here where i live im affraid :( that is one thing i would actually really like to get my hands on so much you can do with it! But that is a neat way to making a mold!

Most of the tin around now a days is pewter, which is 90%-99% tin and some other metal. Lots of the time it's copper but it could be lead, zink or antimony

Yes tin is very valuable. It is best if you do not melt down the original objects if they are stamped for purity. If you want to sell them leave them in their original shape. Look up the current price for tin on the internet so nobody can fool you. Tin is the most valuable non precious metal.

If you regulate temp to melting point of tin other metals won't melt. I use an induction burner. It won't be pure tin but you can assure no lead by regulating melting temp

But if you are not coming with the temperature over 300 degrees normally the cu and the led would not melt I think ?
@@mtillian Exactly right and if you regulate the temp to the melting point of tin any other metal, lead can be scrapped off.

@@RandomizeMe you can use any basic mortar. Normal concrete isn't ideal but in some cases may work.

You can sell tin to reloaders. They use it with lead to harden the projectiles.
