Try The Yellow King by Chambers or The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, both excellent for Halloween! Great video as always Cheers from across the pond!

Port is lovely, but I do think it is more smart to listen to great content and find a good recommendation.

Hi, thanks for doing the tag. I’ve been waiting for someone to pick Metamorphosis- but was expecting it in the “first lines” category. Entertaining selections!

Great video Joe. Very entertaining. The 'hardest book' prompt made me think. Have read Middlemarch and W&P but would have to vote for Pynchon, Umberto Eco, or Joyce as the hardest to penetrate. Gravity's Rainbow, Foucault's Pendulum, and Ulysses would be on my podium.

Viva la Trollope, maillot jaune. Pynchon abandonne la course.

Pynchon would test positive for performance enhancing substances!

I’m so glad our favorite bookish cyclist did this tag! Were you given the le sac d'école?

Lolita is work of an Russian author, so for the France day, average viewer does pressume a French authors on display. And talking about edgy/tabboo themes, sexuality, and difficult themes depicted, France has great works on the theme. Scandinavians as well, if not whole world, but let's just mention here some more widely known world examples. And it is about France, there is no bigger example than marquis de Sade). I will not say a thing about Lolita except that you missed the point

Type of bug aside, Metamorphosis is a great story depicting alienation from society and percieved unworthiness in the eyes of his family, friends, and society in general, his personal insignificance and being significant only in terms of amount of work. So, it may sound funny, and it arguably and probabky may lead to controversies which type of bug is he and is he exclusively a cockroach and which kind, because there are subspecies, and can a German or man/woman with different nationality become cockroach as well or would he/she turn into a different bug, but it is really the point? And does it really matter in such condition?

The Germany was not left to influences, or not abandoned, what happened was a consequence of many factors combined and many influences were basis for better acceptance of ideology in some circles.
The probable mistake, if that can be called mistake, better to say flaw or mistake in judgment, is sort of failure of understanding Hitler's ideas and motives. There is better term for it, my English level is not good enough so that I can write/describe such nuance, however, the catastrophy happened.
But it was not sudden, nor it is that simple and ahistorical as it seems, and yes, humans can become really evil in extreme conditions, but, I do not think all Germans or people in general, are evil by nature. This part of history is not simple at all, and soon before WWII, happened WWI and period after first war did left its mark on Europe.

What about Beowulf? Roland? Ring of Nibelungen, if that is the right word? Epic literature is so underpresented, and so less talked about, and it does offer a lot.
      There are marvelous medieval works.

This fashion or trend of distinctive pronounciation is just a fashion, obviously, but it is not standard English, nor is it registered as Northern dialect... I do think you are misinformed

About the title: "Normal people", is it ironic or it just presumes normal human condition? What is by definition normal in the book? Does it explore themes of human condition in general or is more young adult focused? I would like to hear a different opinion. Thank you
