    1:25:32 - disagree with distraction, it has many more utilities. Block any support fire (even on a plane for aerial combat). The attacking unit having distraction is "lightning attack"?, which is fine but takes aways a precious hero slot for the offensive units. Also unit attacking doesnt have to be next to the distracting one. The only condition is for distration unit to be next to the distracted support unit

    8.8 with Camouflage, Expert support, Rapid Fire 1.5x has been my early to mid war enemy air force delete button. Works every time. Match it with Anti-air Veteran, I will always say what Air force?

  • @aetius9

    There is a decent use of Learns from Mistakes, at least in the early game. When you're swarming fighters that are better than yours, your first attacker will almost always get hurt pretty badly. Fighter replacements at that point are cheap, so it's a good way to provide experience to fighters that are otherwise struggling to get stars.

  • @jrwilson52
    @jrwilson52 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Overwhelming attack works on units with entrenchment one level above base because apparently the attack's effect on entrenchment is applied (reducing entrenchment by one) before the effect of overwhelming attack is applied. Which may be what you were saying anyway.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed, this is correct.

  • @jrwilson52

    Double attack combined with lethal on an artillery makes it a very potent offensive weapon; and on a powerful fighter it makes it feasible to deploy one less fighter than you would otherwise. So I would probably kick it up to an A trait. Thanks for the rundown and great tips.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lethal is an A grade trait, so if your using doublestrike to magnify a better hero then it's value increases. Double attack on its own is not that great.

      @@TheEdmon I dont get it how can you rate something like Camouflage or Provocateur that you can use efficently once in a blue moon with Double Attack that means another copy of a unit most of the time (on arty or bombers every time). Yeah I get it you take damage, I get it that sometimes you cant use the second strike but Camo? How can you delete planes with that? My 8.8 barely do some suppresion and maybe kills 1-2 planes.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vladadrian3534 Used correctly, camo and Provacateur can cause the A.I. to wipe itself out in doomed counter attacks. Allowing easy wins and saving you tons of time. I did a video on how to do it, check the guides section. The thing about double attack is that it's not good on its own, it requires other heroes to matter and more often than not, the extra attack is less effective or wasted. It also doesn't increase the strength of your unit.

      @@vladadrian3534 You need the campaign trait for lethal AA fire to use the 8.8 with Camo on AA duty.
      But it is always crazy good as AT. You just need to exploit the AI.
      Put down a bait inside their viewrange and they will come.
      If you got it with overstrength it will oneshot tanks as long as its got ammo.
      This also can be setup without the camo hero. Take Moscow for example. Pretty hard scenario on higher difficulties.
      But... you know the weather the Russians will have. When it snows in your turn, it will snow in their turn.
      Then they wont be able to spot the 8.8 and yet again fall for the bait.

      @@TheEdmon it is difficult though as you will very rarely have double attack on its own, but I do see it as a great AA Killer. Very rarely will a plane be able to take out an AA piece on its own, and they just heal it back up after a failed kill attack, but with double attack I find it can go in and take out that pesky AA piece that is surropunded by anti tank and artillery.

  • @edelmann4388

    some traits are not that useful on their own but only when you combine with others it is a killer machine. for some traits you can also think for alternate use - use phase movement on a plane to level a target and then move a second one on the same target to get the kill - tac and strat bombers this is.

    I checked my imgbb link where I uploaded these - there are 123 with no duplicates, but I did upload the first 55 one day and the the rest on the other, so I guess if you downloaded them on two separate days as well, Windows automatically renamed the duplicates as xx (1).jpg instead of overwriting them? It can be a sneaky thing, this wonderful operating system. :)
    Overall it was great to see this compiled! There's only one thing that I think does exist and work after all is the Ambusher hero. At least one exists for the AI and is present in the Klin scenario (on a T-38 recon advancing on Rzhev), last one of AO 1941. However, I have yet to roll one so it might not be active for the player and possibly as a side effect - it might not be functional when not used by the AI. I plan to add a custom one to my current run to check the potential of a Ambusher/Provocator combo, so I'll test it eventually.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ambusher is a pre-release hero... it doesn't make sense in the current build of the game. You either blunder into a hidden unit (and are ambushed) or you can see the unit and can't move on to it.

    • @IBN5100SG
      @IBN5100SG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEdmon I booted up a turn 0 Klin save out of curiosity and also checked the lua file for it. Ambusher is there on the T-38 recon (apparently added by Kerensky manually to the mission from the hero pool). Also, it still works just fine, just does not display the "Ambush!" message popup. I attacked that T-38 with a ground unit and got this (happy to put a full log on the forums for reference as well):
      ***** Main Stage *****
      Combat range: 0
      Attacker's Initiative:
      Attacker was ambushed: 0
      * Attacker's Effective Initiative: 0
      Defender's Initiative:
      Attacker was ambushed: 99
      * Defender's Effective Initiative: 99
      Initiative Difference: 0 - 99 = -99
      Defender shoots first. 100% of damage will be applied before attacker can shoot back.
      The attacking tank got wrecked by a garbage recon as a result - even the combat prediction was 8:1 against my attacker despite being superior in every stat. :)

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IBN5100SG Ok, so it works like Readiness but for the enemy. Interesting that he'd use it, because it's not in the game by default (you can't obtain this hero randomly).

    • @IBN5100SG
      @IBN5100SG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The AI can get preferential treatment and often gets heroes from outside the pool the player can roll, which is a nice way to spice missions up. And the trait itself is almost like ultra-Readiness, as ambush mode gives access to close defense rating, meaning that even my 4 star, 15 overstrength Verdeja 2 unit with great heroes suffered 5 kills from a Panzer I level vehicle before even getting to fire back. :)

    • @icelandicfartpolice1206
      @icelandicfartpolice1206 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was about to comment on this. Ambusher is definitely used, in addition to the tank in the Klin scenario, I think there's an ANZAC unit in the Thermopylae battle that has it.

  • @virgilsky9261
    @virgilsky9261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    From what I can remember, Ambusher actually showed up twice during AO 41, once in Thermopylae 1941 on that Provocator tank guarding the pass, the other in Klin. The effect is, that this unit will attack first and shoot at your Close Defense when attacked. An ambush attack, that is. It also ignores Vigilant.

    • @virgilsky9261
      @virgilsky9261 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have to agree with the camouflaged AA trick, really enjoying watching enemy AI suicide all its aircraft in their first turn, when you paired it with AA Veteran commander trait and an 8.8cm AA. They can also be used in AT mode after that against enemy armour, as long as you can avoid being detected by recon.

    • @virgilsky9261
      @virgilsky9261 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      About Double Attack: there is one situation I consider as a game-changing situation: pair it with a Strategic Bomber and Lethal Attack hero. This bomber will be able to eliminate light AA units that threats your Tactical Bombers and Fighters before they do their ground attack on protected AT/Arty or strongpoints, and since strats are not low altitude, they usually won't take any damage from that. Unyielding will help removing suppression, usually the only thing light AA can do to strats.

    • @virgilsky9261
      @virgilsky9261 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Double Move is very powerful on aircraft, I think. It allows you to bomb your target and then use Rebase to get back to your airfield, which is usually safe and far enough from any enemy AA and fighters that will hurt then during enemy turn.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@virgilsky9261 But in this case (double attack and lethal) the key hero here is lethal. Of course, if it lets you use an A tier hero like lethal twice then it's going to be decent :).

      The one on Gustav and Karl is No Unit Management. It prevents you from upgrading and reinforcing such units. Mabye something more, but I can't remember. Could check that with the Fjord War scenario, in which you are granted with these special units.

  • @beeagain213
    @beeagain213 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Considering Recon Planes or Recon bonus in general:
    Its strong in lategame aswell. Each star of experience grants 10% accuracy bonus to your unit and decreases enemies chance to hit your unit by 3%. This means a 5 Star Tank that meets a 5 star Infantry on the battlefield will "only" have a 85% accuracy on that unit.
    With a unexperienced recon plane above the infantry your tank will have 95% accuracy. With a 2-star reconplane the accuracy should be 101%
    At least if im not completly wrong
    Afresh formed unit without Experience will have only 41% accuracy when attacking a 3-star enemy. With a five Star recon plane the accuracy will be 66% which is a massive boost. Again if im not wrong.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are just better boosts out there. 2 points of overstrength is a 20% boost and will likely cost the same slots (about 1 or 2) as a recon. Plus you get the benefits of increased HP and improved repair. Don't get me wrong, I use recon throughout my campaigns but the bonus itself is not that great. Often, you only need to do 10 damage to kill a unit, a couple of points of OS makes that far more likely to happen than putting those same slots into recon for the extra chance to hit. Additionally recon cars are very easy to kill in the late game. They never get any better defensively and get absolutely mulched by late game tanks, infantry and even each other.
      That's the thing about looking at something "on paper". It looks good but situationally in the late game, a recon car is a serious liability because it's so easily killed.

    • @beeagain213
      @beeagain213 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEdmon I know you are using them ;) I watch every single episode from your pzc2 content hehe

      It might work well with the "flower" technique (fighter surrounded by other aircraft). Otherwise it's going to be a 1 in a 1000 chance that someone blunders into your camo fighter (if it works at all).

    @steamedbean7830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s exciting to see a hero tier list. Just started, but I disagree with your opinion on aiming assistance. Accuracy always matters, and it’s not only determined by experience. Accuracy can be reduced by enemy entrenchment, by enemy experience, by weather. You are never going to get 100 accuracy at highest difficulty without recon or aiming assistance, even in open terrain. Aiming assistance gives a straight plus 10 accuracy to any adjacent units. A lot of times it could be the key to whether you can overrun the enemy.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't get accuracy for free, you either have to pay slots for an extremely vunerable recon unit, or you have to have a unit with the hero on that needs to be next to the unit you want to boost. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. It looks good on paper, but it actually isn't worth it.
      You get better results by simply adding overstrength to your frontline units, using the slots you would have spent on recons in the late war.

    • @steamedbean7830
      @steamedbean7830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEdmon a 5 star recon with aiming assistance gives you 35 accuracy boost to any adjacent units. And it only cost you 4 to 5 core slots. Normally in late game, your effective accuracy is around 70 even in open terrain. that 35 accuracy is going to give you a huge boost in damage, almost 50%. You are not going to get that much improvement by overstrength.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steamedbean7830 5 star units have 100% accuracy, enemy units at 5 stars have a 12% reduction in accuracy. The most "juice" you can get in an all-5 star battle is 12%, effectively, 10%. That's it. Entrenchment damage reductions are calculated seperately, you can test this by attacking a 10/10 entrenchment unit with recons. Your damage will be 0. On the highest difficulty enemies get an accuracy bonus, but they do not get any additional accuracy defense, so your base accuracy at 5 stars remains 88% against 5 star enemies.
      A single point of overstrength is more valuable, it would add another 10%'s worth of attacks and provide you with an extra 1 HP, making you more robust.
      But, if you disagree that's fine. I don't find accuracy to be worth it in the late game. It has value early when your base accuracy is low but even then, there are much, much better heroes out there.
      You may be making the mistake of thinking accuracy can go over 100%, it can't.

    • @steamedbean7830
      @steamedbean7830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEdmon Enemy units at 5 star have a 20% reduction in your accuracy. And also, base accuracy does go beyond 100, but the effective accuracy is capped at 100. By stacking base accuracy, you can negate some entrenchment effects.

    • @TheEdmon
      @TheEdmon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steamedbean7830 Yeah, you are right in that it is 20% now, there was a patch that increased the reduction to 4% per star. So it's 20% that's the most you can get, which you can offset with +2 OS. Entrenchment is totally seperate mechanic to accuracy. As you've said, accuracy is "effectively" capped to 100%, so there is no point in having more.
      As I've said before: Units that come with recon bonuses are horribly weak in the late game and are vunerable to literally everything, as their ground defense value barely moves from 1939 to 1944. If I've lost units in any campaign, they've been recons. They must be on the front line to function, so they will always be a weak link.
      Aiming Assistance ties up a unit and forces that unit to be in an exact specific position to support another unit, meaning you have to work your strategy around it, which often won't be optimal. In chasing the minor bonus, you may end up losing attacks, which works out as being overall worse for you. Your best bet is to put it on a recon plane, but even that's not free. Since recon planes still take up slots at your airport and often, you only have one airport "on the front line" in a useful position. They are also defenceless and a magnet for fighters.
      I gave it a "C", as in it's not bad, it's just average. 10% is a small bonus. Most of the stuff in S/A/B can give 50% bonuses, or cause entire waves of units to wipe themselves out. I use recons for scouting and very rarely for the bonus, which almost never results in more than an extra point of damage at best.

    Great video. I've tried to "save" the list but it's pretty "blurry". Only other comment is that I completely disagree with your assessment of "double Attack". I have two Stukas with Double Attack and Fast rebase (plus Tank Killer, etc). They have saved my bacon on numerous occasions. Yes, sometimes I don't need the second Attack, however the majority of the time, I need two attacks to kill a tank or reduce it down so that nearby tanks can mop up. Now if I can't get fighters to cover the attacks - THATS another story. I also try avoiding nearby enemy AA but I'd rather take a couple hits and completely eliminate one or more menacing tanks. I also have one 203mm M1931 artillery using Double Attack and Consolidator (it's a 20). Anywhere it goes - I win :)....
