Spag bol is one of the easiest cheapest meals a family could knock up. tin of tomatoes 30p, onion 15p, chicken stock cube, pack of spaghetti, 80p. That could feed 5-6 if you're stretching it. Bit of salt and pepper with the tomato reduced it's going to taste good too, and nutritious. Before starting, crush at least half a bulb of garlic, (I use at least one bulb, it is winter we need garlic) DO NOT PUT GARLIC NEAR HEAT, it needs to stand for at least 10 minutes for the ingredient ALICIN to form, which is what makes garlic good for us. 500g 20% beef mince Sainsbury £2.49. Fry the mince off, (I use a wok to save mess). Remove from pan, leaving fat in pan. Cook 2 chopped onions in the beef fat, remove from pan, put with beef. To the beef fat that's left in pan, add couple of teaspoons of oregano, teaspoon of marjoram. Open 2 tins of _plum_ tomatoes 39p each, crush down with hands, add the love. (I find chopped tomatoes a lesser quality). Fill one empty tomato tin with 3 _proper_ stock cubes, (I use lamb and chicken, _not oxo._ _HOLDING TIN WITH A DRY TEA TOWEL_ Add boiling water to can, stir, Once stock has broken down, add mixture to pan, making sure to get all juices from fat. Put the beef and onions back in pan, leave on simmer for a good half hour, adding water if you need sauce thinner. _Now_ add your crushed garlic no cooking needed, just stir into sauce well. Stamford Street Penne 41p 500 grams, or spagetti 500 grams 28p. Depending on how much sauce you like with your pasta, you can cook 500g of pasta or a kilo, eat on the night, freeze the rest, will feed 5 or 6 people. Cheaper than 85p a packet... AND DELICIOUS!
@@lisamurphy1651 My sugar would be a blob of tomato sauce! The point of the recipe is to be healthy, there are no processed oils used, and the salt is in the stock. And, once made, (the comment above says it is a a lot of messing around), but it literally takes about 5-7 minutes, depending on how long it takes you to chop onions.
