I don't understand why something with that "dress" style would not have a lot more polish on the case and the caseback for sure. You mentioned that they are more known for their tool watches and perhaps they just couldn't let go of more elements of that style that perhaps they should have on this model. I thought they executed the little circular markers around the small seconds hand really well without messing up the "glamour" of the dial. good point on the lume; i wouldn't have thought of that, but at least they were smart enough to go with the BGW9 to match the stars...since I mean I can't recall too many green stars in our galaxy. I love that style of bracelet and I wish they could have made it work better in the design. If I buy a Sinn I'm almost sure i'd buy the one they make in this style. Great review. Unsparing as usual.

I have purchased this watch and think I got exactly as advertised. I think many of the decisions around the design are very purposeful. I do believe it is in niche between a true dress watch and a sport watch... or possibly a rather robust more practical dress watch. I totally love the brushed look on the case (only polished bit is the bezel) and I think the bracelet is awesome but yes it is a simple design. This gives more attention to the dial which is well executed and absolute joy to behold - it changes from black to dark blue to purple depending on the angle the light hits it. I was scared it would look too flashy -possibly in really bright sun it gets a bit too sparkly. I understand it is not for everyone, but I knew I was getting a brushed case. However, two things could be improved... I think the leather strap simply does not go with the watch and its styling - too causal but is good quality . The Zelos on the dial could have been dropped to make the dial more minimalist or made in dark blue so it look like it was in relief to the dial. It is too big and a bit of a detraction. Mine is running a little on the fast side at 8 seconds a day. Some corrections on the video Aventurine is glass originally produced in Venice (Ancient Egyptians might also have been able to make it) , while the crystalline rock is actually named after the glass and is usually greenish. Second point I think it is really unfair to compare this to a Nomos Club which with a sapphire case back costs new $1950 - that is a lot more $ to spend. I actually disagree with you on the lume I think it is a nice feature and was well executed. I find a non lume watch infuriating as I have got used to watches with lume. As far as value goes - please find another watch with a top grade ETA 7001 movement for under a $800 and then report back as a comment!!!!!! This is a movement found in Blancpain watches or a Ming costing $4000.

If you want to buy new then sure it’s a big difference but hey this was a limited run and I’ve already seen some at a premium around the 1000 dollar mark. I bought a junghans Meister handwinding with the exact same movement a couple of weeks ago for 850 dollars new. And in my opinion, for my tastes, it is a better watch in most aspects. I’m glad you’re happy with your purchase and in the end watches are subjective. What I like may not be what you like and what bothers me may be those things you love. Thanks for a great review. Great to hear an honest review of this watch. I think it is cool that Zelos are trying out new things. However it is just so obvious that this is a watch made by a company who almost exclusively make tool watches. I love the dials on the Nova, but so many things seem out of place and don't fit the watch. The bracelet with different finish to the case, the wierd pointy lugs with curcular brushing, the bland engraving on the caseback, and the thick horween strap that would fit a field watch. All in all a very confusing "dress watch" I have the brown sunburst variant, and although I think it cool, I reckon i will be returning it, partly because of a couple of bad QC issues.

I do believe this watch was a somewhat niche appeal. I spoke with Elshan about it and everything is done purposefully, which is not to everyone's taste but what is? This is more of a "dressy" watch than a pure dress watch. I like dress style watches but since I'm no suit nd tie. I'll agree the strap isn't to my taste but I do appreciate the difference in finishes from the bezel, case, and bracelet. It makes each part sort of unique while not departing from the overall aesthetic. The brushing on the case/caseback is meant to draw attention to the dial and movement. Although, I would have preferred if the movement had more decoration. Honestly most of the complaints are a bit subjective. Imo most of the design choices work and I have no real issues with the piece. It's unfortunate that yours had some QC issues. What were the issues?
@@tommydude969 there were two things, that may or may not be considered minor problems depending on who you ask. The screws holding the caseback looked like they had been screwed in with the wrong size screwdriver. As a result they were badly scratched. The worst problem was the fact that there was something stuck between the bridge and the movement. I cant really make out what it is. Looks like dead skin or some unidentifiable plant part :/
@@kasperreisner oh, I wouldn't consider those minor at all, especially at that price point. It's not a luxury piece but it's still expensive. If the screws were the only issue it'd be an easy fix you to do but since there's something else wrong I say you contact them for either a return or replacement. It's unfortunate to hear.

I can see how the relatively plain caseback and case or meant to draw focus to the most interesting parts, being the dial and movement, but still a little polish couldn’t have hurt. Thank you! I’ve never seen the Solas in person but just based on looks between the two I’d go for the solas. I’m fairly certain it’s cheaper and this zelos would be a little harder to find as it’s sold out. I don’t know if the movement of the Solas would be good overtime because it hadn’t been used very often in other watches but at the price it is a fun watch. Not many other aventurine out there unfortunately!
I appreciate the in-depth and through review, you really can't be any more detailed than this! Despite it's flaws, I just made a purchase on one, and I think I will like it! They are rare but pop up here and there.
@@theknightswatch Perhaps, I did try it on my pc and now my phone in 1080p and they both keep stopping at exactly 7 or 8 seconds in and load indefinitely. Someone else on here would have to confirm if it's just me or not. But it's all good
I actually like how the bracelet dresses it down. It makes it more versatile with casual wear. I was afraid the gem was going to be to dressy for my normal attire but unless its in direct sunlight the glitter is very subtle
Thanks for this review. Overall this isn't a watch for me because 7001 isn't hackable and its small second subdial is too close to center. But if I have to choice one variant, I would probably pick the white linen dial, which I think isn't overdone like this aventurine dial.

The bracelet somehow dresses it down, but the aventurine dial is hard to use in a casual setting. The dial looks really nice though!
I can see that. The bracelet isn’t the “dressiest” and the all brushed design helps make it stand out less really.
