  • Back out again on a new stretch of the river Thames that I have been fishing this season, hunting about trying to find my feet and locate some of the lovely Barbel and Carp that are along this stretch and finding it tough going. This time sees me targeting the weir pool and then on my second session, a slower area further downstream. Both trips giving me plenty of food for thought and plenty of head scratching.

Please excuse the wind noise, I have done my best to reduce this during the post processing of the video.

I'm really enjoying looking back through your earlier videos Mark and it's great to see how your audience is growing over the last 7 years, 34,000 views is amazing. As they say from little acorns ect. I can't think of a better course /river fishing channel on the'tube' and the odd lake/pit trip. Keep up the good work it's a pleasure to share your experiences. Ps if you get time another sea trip would be greatly appreciated lol. All the best Rich.

Thanks Ric, I would not mind another sea trip at all, it just depends if I can get a charter as cheap as that particular one cost and I am as of yet to find one as cheap as that, it was actually on sale on Groupon of all places.

I have no hesitation in approving your comment as.
    1) it is a syndicate not a club
    2) I had asked prior wether or not there is a publicity ban or not and had been told that there is no such publicity ban.
So I will not be removing the videos of this stretch, thank you in advance.

Thanks Simon, I'm just trying to show the journey that leads us to our captures and the enjoyment in the challenge that it creates. I like Bream, but more so on balanced feeder tackle/quiver tip.

Nice video. if I have learned something about river carp fishing it's that the spot is not really important. Well it's most important that you can present a rig there, that's about it for me. Because fish are constantly moving unless it's spawn time or deepest winter and as you mentioned, features are just everywhere. The most important feature that you can create is your prebait. I lost confidence in going on spontaneous sessions without prebait at low or average-stock rivers. Whereas with prebait campaigns over at least three days, I made so many good experiences, it's just worth it to put in the time and effort.. Also when you know about the chub and barbel as well as bream, you can theoretically put in loads :D Or try an approach with something rather selective like bigger boilies, or harder particles although the latter are very light and tend to drift a fair bit in the water..

Two nice Bream Mark, so not a blank session. A shame the Carp and Barbel didn't oblige, I've never fished the Thames myself, but would like to one day. Very nice video, all the best to you.

Cheers mate it is lovely, I have not fished it recently and inf act when i was in the syndictae i actually got threats to take my videos down from anonymous members, but was allowed to keep the videos up by the person who ran the membership back in 2012. The way the new membership is run I am led to believe it can be very hard to join especially if your face does not fit in, as I say that is what i am led to believe and have been told by a few guys who have messaged me over the years. Why not join Sutton Courtney angling ? They have some nice spots.

Nice video, I have kayaked many times all around that area about 10 years ago and from the Odney club / Bridge they used to throw all the old kitchen bread so you would get large shoals of carp and bream under the bridge! Never fished it though, not sure if this is still the case but might try my luck sometime, looks like you can't park down Odney Lane though now ? Can anyone confirm this?

Just happened to stumble on this, Yesterday on the kayak on this weir pool i saw 2 barbel on the shallow gravel plus plenty of chub.
would they take any bait... no chance. Must be very shy during daylight. hard to fish the kayak at night !

Cheers Tommy, I had one barbel from the stretch and cannot think of a better place to wet a line, it is simply stunning with a lot of options for an angler, even though the trips for me were 70 miles in total it was very enjoyable. The better zones for the Carp seem to be a little further downstream from the weir? Least that is what I felt during my trips from what I saw and heard whilst fishing downstream.

Hello there sorry for the delayed reply, I know exactly where you mean. I was mainly after barbel and carp and switched to roach later on in the season. I had plenty of bream and one barbel of 9lb which is viewable on one of my other videos, hope that is of some help. Although it would have been nice that year to fish it during winter but sadly with the flooding we had it more or less wrecked the remaining few months of the season on this particular area of Thames which was rather gutting to say the least.

Hey Ben. I am sorry but I get a lot of comments and it is hard to reply to each and every one of them try as I might so I do apologise. Regarding Child Beale and the Thames in general there is a good head of Bream shoals, in fact it was around Caversham and Child Beale area that did some of the largest bags of bream, Personally mate you won't go wrong by using a groundbait balling in with heavy particle mixed in, this can be the usual hemp or birdseed mixed to a consistency that you prefer and of course pellets, you can catch them well throughout the day too in the right conditions, but for myself I always did best for bream evening and through the night, which is normal given that fish activity generally increases during the nocturnal hours. Bait wise I'd probably go halibut pellets too.

      @francolinobasco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello Stefan, thank you for taking the time to comment.
Yes there was fish caught (bream), footage of which are on this video. Although I was actually after barbel which have been on the decline on the upper river Thames in Oxfordshire for a few years (still a few larger fish about). I did catch one of those on my later videos from this stretch of the Thames.
In fishing you don't always catch the species that you are targeting and sometimes you may not even catch at all. I would rather upload the majority of my fishing videos to show the truth of this otherwise it could become very artificial and look like every fishing trip is a success and as any truthful angler will tell you that is never the case, the enjoyment of finally understanding an area of river and being rewarded would certainly not be the same if it we was not tested and made to use our watercraft on every fishing trip.
