Interesting and thanks. I've heard about handaxes and how they were developed over about 2 million years. Many hundreds of thousands, or perhaps millions, by one estimate. Far more than would be needed for survival, or even just for practice? Several archeologists have suggested that, while they did have some use as tools, one of the primary uses was to impress possible female onlookers or even as gifts prior to mating. If you stand back a bit, the suggest is then, human evolution was or is governed by female hormones, perhaps ---- something that one of my History Profs once said in passing about the way that mating preferences were expressed in the US during WWII and just after that conflict. Of course there was a good deal of Uncle's $ being thrown around as well. If true, then one might see similar consequences in our times? There has been much made in the news recently about the legal back and forth over what amounts to be birth control pills. This back and forth has happed 3 or 4 times now, since the 60s and there hasn't been a resolution, there are still marching, huh, sit ins, carrying signs and carrying on. And pretty much the same arguments, legally or not, back and forth. So might there be a resolution; given the very long history of such events, I would guess, 'no.' If one steps even further back, much of this sounds like one of the fictional books by the highly successful and respected Science Fiction writer, Larry Niven. Boggle, huh?
