Thank you! I enjoy your videos! Because of my HG (extreme morning sickness - I lost weight) and my non-top 8 allergies I couldn't do the drink. So I tested my blood sugar 4 times a day instead. It wasn't fun but honestly, it really wasn't hard or even really painful. I ended up having borderline GDM. I also had VASA priva so I was in the hospital anyways for two weeks after the sugar test (so they did the monitoring for me once I was there) They gave me insulin at night and it wasn't bad. Diet and exercise adjustments where not possible. As far as complications go it was the least bad one I had. We caught it early and it was well-managed. It was not scary because it was treated. Now he was born early via a C-section because of the Vasa Priva, not because of diabetes. He is in the NICU getting the rest of his programming installed so to speak. (learning how to baby not fetus) but he will be all right.
I will say, having GD feels like being assigned an eating disorder. It just feels so unnatural, when I’m used to eating when I’m hungry, trying to have a balanced diet and allowing myself treats. Tracking carbs and having to be rigid about when I eat, leaving a 2 hour break after to test blood glucose. I thought maybe being on insulin would make it easier but nope, same deal, just with added injections to make my stress (needle phobia!) go into overdrive. Never been more miserable. Can’t go out with friends most of the time because you never know what restaurants put in their food or if there will be decent options available.
Hi thank you for sharing this informative video! I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I had to do the 3 hour glucose test (100g of sugar) but unfortunately I could not make it past the second blood draw and puked everything out. Now my doctor gave me the choice of attempting the 3 hour test again or testing at home: poking my finger 4x a day for 2 weeks.
As soon as I found out I was pregnant I asked my doctor for a continuous glucose monitor so I could start tracking my blood sugar levels. I was gestational in a previous pregnancy and wanted to prevent it. I was still given insulin because of fasting glucose but I eat lower carb to help stabalize my blood sugar during the day.
Wish I had known this with my first born! I had GDM with her and 8 months later was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 😢 going on 13 years and pregnant with my 3rd baby with type 1 diabetes.
I have GDM, diagnosed since the first trimester. I've been monitoring sugar levels at home ever since and had the HbA1C test recently with normal results, but I'm already 26 weeks, so it counts, right? My sugar levels are slightly lower since I started taking B12 supplements too, leaving them within the normal range. I am Latin American, obese and had a diagnosis of PCOS too, but I've been controlling everything well, so my weight gain since pregnancy is around 5lbs when docs said I should gain 15lbs at most, so I'm left with a nice range for the third trimester. I hope I can have a natural unmedicated birth.
I had gd and had almost none of these symptoms. They thought baby would be big and pushed for immediate induction after they saw i had low amniotic fluid. She was only 2.7 kg. I had low blood pressure throughout and no family history.
And here I am...drinking a glass of hot cocoa milk I made with sugar in it at 9 pm, wondering if it's ok to drink in pregnancy...but I had such a craving. 😬 Last scan my doctor told me baby measured 1 week ahead...should I be on diet?
Hi Tina, My son was born on December 20 2022. He was 4,220 kilo. So around 10 pounds. I never did a sugar test because with my daughter ( my first child ) was born at 3,4 kilo. At 41+1 weeks. Her weight was lower than average around that time of pregnancy. So there was no need to do that with my second baby. But he came out HUGE 😂 That a side.. I’m pregnant again with my 3rd baby now.. and now they want me to do the sugar test. Because my last baby was big and I didn’t lost all of my baby weight from the last pregnancy so my BMI is 33 now.. here in Holland, when you have a bmi above 30 you have to do the sugar test. I don’t want toooo😪 Can you tell me why there can be such a difference in baby’s weight? I carried them both till 41 weeks. But my daughter was much en much lighter than my son, I didn’t do anything different. And does that mean that this baby is gonna be even bigger?😱
I would absolutely not skip the diabetes test personally. It can have pretty intense consequences for you and baby that hopefully your provider would go over. And if you have two risk factors (being an elevated BMI and having baby over 9 pounds) you are in a higher risk bracket. Which could mean a risk for you for diabetes outside of pregnancy and also risk for babys blood sugars at birth and risk of another larger baby which puts them at a risk of shoulder dystocia. But you do have to make these decisions for you and baby so definitely make a list of pros and cons and weigh them out so you feel like you are making a well formed choice.
Loving your contents, Tina! I'm a video editor, I was just wondering if you have someone helping you with your videos. Btw, I sent you an email. Would love to connect with you.
I wish I didn’t do the test as it has put a lot of unnecessary stress on myself and baby. Doctors and midwifes have become so inhuman, they go by their books instead of treating everyone individually. They only care about covering their backs. I don’t know how eating healthy, natural unprocessed food can still have the need for a GD test.
It doesn’t have to do with eating healthy. It has to do with the placenta and the hormones it produces that can cause insulin resistance.. you can be an incredibly healthy momma and work out and do everything right and still be diagnosed with diabetes.
Thank you! I enjoy your videos!

Rest of his programming installed 😂 good for you for having a sense of humor. Major congrats 🎉 thanks for the comment!

I'm so sorry! I have heard the 3 hour test is a rough one from quite a few people now. Let us know what you decide!

@@mamanursetina It’s been hard. Now I’m taking up to 180 units of insulin daily in my insulin pump! 😳😬😭

do you have a video about reasons people have babies before 40 weeks?
Not specifically one video because there’s lots of medical reasons.

Did you have your GDM screening done?
Hey Tina, I love your content, and the energy you bring in your videos is amazing. Do you have a business email or just shoot you a DM?

They really treat us all like we’re 500lbs and smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day…
