  • Canna lily is one of the plants I’ve fallen in love with over the years as I’ve learned about different plants and had a chance to try them for myself in the garden. This plant is a powerhouse that give a lot of bang for the buck.
    Here is the video on germinating canna seeds:

    Great other videos are saying once flower is spent cut it. Then you will continue to have them flower. Which I did, but your explanation states they will keep flowering. I cut some & was wondering where are the new flowers? Thank you for Correct info. One channel said if you save the pods you could get a different color when planting them. Is that true? Mine are orange, not my color scheme in garden but was given, & it’s sacrilegious to throw a plant away in my world😊. Will come back to see your other videos when time allows. 8b btw.

      @@gracie2298 I have a video where I show you that openly pollinated canna seeds are not true to type. Meaning you could get any color. If you take seeds from an orange flower, some flowers will be orange but some will be other colors. Because the mom might have had orange flowers but the dad or the grandparents might have had other colors.
      In the video, I take seeds from the same canna and I not only get different color flowers but also some of the seedlings had dark leaves 👍😊🍁 and thank you for the compliment 😊 much appreciated

    I have a Tropicana Black in a container and it blooms beautifully BUT they tend to break off? My husband slid the container a little for room and a new flush of partially opened blooms on one stalk just very cleanly snapped off. It looked as if I cut it, it was so clean. Does anyone know why this happens?

      The Tropicana series are hybrids so maybe it’s just something that happens with that variety. It’s probably something the breeders had to accept with that particular cultivar, in order to have a canna with such dark leaves.

    Hi I’m new to cannas. I have purchased rhizomes and planted them in small pots, to get them started as I’m in a colder zone. It’s unusually warm here this week (80 degrees )Should they be outside now and brought in when cold? (Next week lows will be in the 50’s)
    Or kept inside in pots until a certain point ?
    Thank you so much

      It’s the nighttime dips that get them. So if you guys aren’t going below 40-45 at night, it should be fine. It’s just that morning frost that’s the problem for them. Hope that helps 😊

      @@Garden-Oasis thank you so much! At this point the sun is also good for them?

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@heathpars210 they are full sun tropicals. Not only is the sun good for them, they need it. So if you can’t take them outside just yet, put them in a south facing window
      OR (if you have the energy for it) take them out in the daytime and bring them in at night (to avoid the morning frost). But if you’re going to do that, you’ll have to slowly get them used to being in full sun. The leaves will burn if you put them out in full sun right away. So first leave them in the outside shade during the day for a week, then leave them in full sun during the day after that. But you’ll still have to bring them in at night if you have morning frost. If not, you can just leave them out there.

      @@Garden-Oasis awesome, thanks for the help. I am so excited about these !! I have purchased canna Phasion (Tropicanna) and Pretoria.
      Like I said I’m new to rhizomes…. Is it correct to water when I put them into the pots, then not again until I see growth?

      Thanks for watching! 🙂
      Personally, I try not to interfere with the natural happenings of my garden. I don’t spray any pesticides and just let the bugs do what they want.. However, I do realize that people have different preferences and if the grasshoppers bother you, you could spray pesticides on the cannas to stop it from happening. Just know that you won’t just be killing the grasshoppers, pesticides kill all the insects, including pollinators, so you probably won’t get any seeds to collect for next year. Good luck 👍
