      Is it really that bad? Think of it as a subscription service. Look at what you get for the price. £150 a year and you get every single channel, radio, iPlayer. If it’s not your thing then don’t pay it. Pay for Netflix or Britbox. Netflix ends up being £110 a year if you want HD. For what the license actually is it isn’t that bad. Would you really rather adverts every 5 minutes?

      George Devlin I dont pay it either, but legally, this means I cannot watch the other TV stations that are not supported by the licence fee. So I state as so many others, the licence needs to be either scrapped or decriminalised, without the funding the BBC will either change or die.

    As a Singaporean, I never understood why the UK joined or ceded so much to the EU to begin with.
    Britain had done quite well on it's own for centuries. I know it's fashionable these days to criticized it's past imperial misadventures.
    For all the misgivings about 'Rule Britannia', it must be acknowledged you introduced a unifying language, legal and education system that created the world's first global economy and brought different people together. Because of the commonwealth, a person from India can converse and conduct trade with a person in Hong Kong or Jamaica. English-not German, French or Dutch-is still regarded by East Asians as the language of international commerce.

    Several Poles I know who have taken full citizenship (and can therefore vote) voted to leave the EU.
    It's a big misconception (in many ways a very British one) that all Europeans in Britain cherish the EU. They really don't.
    It makes sense if you think about it. They are people who are prepared to take flight from their home country and start a new life elsewhere, with all the risks that brings. They are very independent people who are not afraid to "go it alone".
    Another big mistake that Labour made. Contrary to the leftist view, we are not loosing tons of talent.
    Even non-citizen Europeans who I work with are not bothered about Brexit. They all have jobs, British girlfriends, boyfriends, homes here etc. and they are not about to pack up and leave.
    It was never about xenophobia (or any of the other nonsense peddled by the frothing left). We just don't want to be remote-controlled by Brussels and their Commission. That's all.

    Thinking of the previous Prime Ministers in my lifetime -
    Attlee, Churchill, Eden, Macmillan, Douglas-Home, Wilson, Heath, Callaghan, Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron, May
    - Apart from two or three big exceptions, they've all been either weak, dishonest, or venal, usually generally self-serving, and, especially recently, out-of-touch with the feelings of British people. It really does feel wonderful to see an intelligent, cultured, articulate, and BOLD man leading the country, after so many years.
    The bumbling is just put-on, of course - part of his sense of humour, part of a type of endearing eccentricity that people from other parts of the world - and even so many young people here, now - just don't get. As a historian, and as a classicist, he understands the British appreciation of strong robust character, and well-deserved pride in what our nation has achieved and what it can achieve. And what could possibly be wrong with that? I don't remember ever feeling this level of pride in and support for a Prime Minister, in my adult life before now.

    • @Edd5hott79
      @Edd5hott79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16
