I live here in Fairbanks. Cold winters but last several years was actually not that bad. Summer is awesome. As for long daylight i am used to it. Love seeing moose and ducks within the city, not always around but sometimes 😊
Great video. Hopefully you visited the rest of the city and out lying areas... "Farmer''s Loop?" Far more exciting than rolling around downtown. Still, great video. :)
It highly depends on which day of the year we are. This video was taken towards the end of November, where the sunrise was at ~10am and the sunset was at ~3pm and the sun is always on the horizon during the day (making it feel we are not daytime but sunset time, like what we see on the video). At the opposite of that, it never gets dark at the peak of the summer (!) which is unthinkable from a lower 48 point of view. In case you want to know more about this, here is a good reference: www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/fairbanks?month=6
At 26:56, on the right, you can see one wing of the hospital that my girlfriend and son were born in... (28 years apart, but still.) :) Shortly after you can see the Middle school her and I went to and the High School that she did.
That’s amazing! 4x4 4WD studded tires is the best and the safest option but the rental agency told us that a 2WD winter tires is sufficient unless there is a storm. But my piece of advice: get at least a 4WD (even if you have to pay extra: it’s really worth it). By the way, here is how driving there was like: th-cam.com/video/20JW5BYkExI/w-d-xo.html. If you need any other tips let me know. Enjoy your trip!!
Ha nobody with Fairbanks drive videos ever goes down college. Everyone drives the same route downtown, industrial park, Fred’s, around Costco, airport way, back to downtown, usually. Big I, flag bridge, Sadler’s, Mecca, ice museum, Costco. Haha.
You need to learn how to drive. @1:38 you change lanes in the middle of an intersection. And @21:17 you turn into the far lane. It's right in the drivers manual that you can't turn into the far lane. You have to turn into the closest lane and then change lanes to get over. Both of these are illegal actions because they are unsafe.
Agreed that neither maneuvers were ideal, however let's be precise: none of these were illegal nor unsafe. Answering each point: - The lane change @1:38 is a bit tricky because as we can see, there is an intersection every few hundred feet. In the presence of icy road conditions, a driver's safety incentive is to make slow direction changes in order to (1) signal intent to other drivers with enough buffer and (2) optimize the tires adherence to the ground. As a result, the probability of an overlap with an intersection increases, which is indeed what happened here. - Section 13 of Alaska Administrative Code, § 02.200 relaxes the constraint of turning into the leftmost lane "[when] conditions prevail which necessitate other action to assure safety". Before arriving at the @21:17 intersection, the car needed to maintain a reasonable speed to align with the flow of traffic following the car. An icy road means a sudden decrease of speed to turn in the correct lane may not be most desirable. Also, we can see that the left portion of the intersecting street is covered with ice. Both reasons made that making it a longer turn ending up on the second lane from the left seemed safer, which aligns with the authoritative guidance.

Love this video, and there is no music add it, good job catching so many interesting things 👍

I didn't know driving though Fairbanks could be ASMR but here we are!
I got cold just watching this. Idk why anyone wants to live in such a cold place 🥶🥶🥶
On average how long does the sun stay in the sky during the day. Here it rises at like 6am and sets at 5pm. but im in the lower 48

@@MachineBazi Why not in June 2024, when the sun set at a quarter till 1 am and rises just before 3 am with twilight between these hours?
@@diedrike863That was weird for me ☺️

Woah. We are visiting next week. Is a 4x4 or AWD must here? or a 2WD works fine?

@@MachineBazi You did good. I've lived in Fairbanks most of my life. Driving conditions are often less than optimal and you handled it well.
